Out of Country Review - Spain…read more Had lunch at El Tostadero on Tuesday afternoon. A spot filled with local workers, they have lots of cheap and delicious sandwich options. Definitely worth a quick stop for visitors to the city. Quality: We went with house special a Fried Cuttlefish Sandwich, and it was incredible. The texture was great, browned to perfection and just a little bit of spring to the fish. Pair it with a couple cold beers and you would struggle to find a better lunch. Quantity: Massive portions. Value: Very cheap. Ambiance: El Tostadero is a locals spot in Valencia. The casual shop has a wrap around bar for seating, with food options on display in front of you. They also have a few tables outside. Inside prepare to watch yourself eat and drink in a mirror with music blasting as the workers constantly push out more sandwiches. Crowd: A few regulars, constant take-out. Service: Fast.

My only complaint really is that from the time you order something, it takes a long time to get it; and I'm talking about a ready-made sandwich that they had piles of on the counter. Same goes for getting the check. I love how there's no rush here in Spain but when you're in a rush to get out and it takes so long, it's annoying. By the way, my review stars are not based on the slow service.

Seitan sandwich was great! It also came with an orange juice. Horchata was not good and tasted like melted ice. Service **** Super fast, waitress efficient and understands English well. Atmosphere *** Nice outdoor seating, inside very hot. Price € Under 10 euros a dish. Super affordable it was great!

Two of my favorite fillings included the Carrillera (pork cheeks braised in red wine) paired with patatas paja (potato sticks) and a spicy mojo picon sauce; and the Pollo tandoori (spiced chicken) paired with lettuce and mojo picon. Other selections I tried included the "Serranito," made of lomo al ajillo (pork loin) with jamon and caramelized onions; the simple tuna with caramelized onions and tomato; and the Mexican-style stewed pork shoulder (Paleta de cerdo guisada deshilachada). As you can tell, many of the 100 sandwich selections simply used the same set of ingredients, toppings, and sauces in different combinations, but everything made for a tasty, great value meal nonetheless. To order, you simply list the number of the sandwiches you want on a sheet of paper and pay at the counter, and the sandwiches are served along with potato chips on a platter as soon as they're ready!

Unfortunately we had just eaten a bunch for lunch so we came by before our dinner reservation later that night, and I'm so glad we did! We ordered the D'Alba was is made on their focaccia bread which is toasted, pesto, their tartufo spread, and prosciutto cotto. For 9,95 euro. This spot is takeout only, so we grabbed it to go and ate on some steps nearby. We were amazed at how it looked, and it tasted as good as it looked. I eat an absurd amount of sandwiches, and this one has to be one of the best I've ever had in my life, maybe top 3. From the toasted bread, fresh ingredients to their tartufo spread, it was magical. All I could think of after eating this was that we have to come back before we leave Valencia. 10/10 highly recommend trying this spot if you love sandwiches as much as me and want a change of pace from tapas and paella. The guys behind the counter were super nice and can't wait to try another one of the sandwiches!

After having hard time deciding what to order, since the selection is mind blowing, we went for a giant slice of strawberry cheese cake and chocolate cake. Both very ritch, creamy and flavorful. We ordered coffee and tea to wash it all down. Total bill came down to around 10€. An excellent value for the quality and portion size. 3.5€ per slice. This is a must stop for people with a sweet tooth. Offering food branches as well.
