Last year I knew I would be in Shelton and thought I would have a Mexican meal there. When I did some research Guadalajara was on my list along with Las Palmas. I ended up going with Las Palmas based on them having stronger reviews. It was good, but I hadn't written off Guadalajara. Today I was back in Shelton and decided to give them a try. Reviews are positive, but photos don't show enough of the menu and since there is no website, it was impossible to know what the offerings were and what they cost. I was there for lunch and from what I recall, there were at least 2 dozen lunch specials ranging in price from $14 - $17. There were two items that you don't see on many lunch menus and both are two of my favorites. Carnitas and Carne Asada. I asked the server which he recommended, and he said I should try the Carnitas. As I anticipated my meal, I tried the salsa, decent, but no better or worse than any other restaurant. I like heat, so I asked if they had some hotter, he smiled and said he would be back. 5 minutes later, he returned with a salsa that looked the same, except some crushed chili flakes had been added. That gave. There is a difference between trying to make something hotter or actually making a hotter salsa. When the food came, the portion was generous, but it also wasn't good. I've mentioned this in many reviews. Carnitas have to be fresh, you can't reheat them and this was reheated. Carnitas is no different than a steak. If you make a steak fresh one day, it won't be tender and juicy the next day if you just place it under the broiler. Truth be told, I was really upset. The server, who honestly appeared to be the owner, knew better, at least the Carne Asada would have been grilled fresh. I didn't eat half of the meal and although he showed concern when I asked for the check, again, you are the restauranteur. Why would you serve leftovers to someone who made clear, they wanted your best plate. I don't live in the area and at this point don't have a reason to return. If they were local to me, I'd give them another roll, most likely at dinner to ensure everything is made fresh, but this Amigo struck out today and he earned the single star I'm leaving on his hacienda. read more

This is a great little Mexican Restaurant here in Shelton. It has a cozy atmosphere with a very nice ambiance. The staff are friendly, fast, and efficient. There is a great lunch menu as well with lost of affordable delicious bites. The dinner menu is more extensive but still affordable relative to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Everything is very good. The fajitas in particular were extremely flavorful and uniquely delicious. There is a full bar as well... though I've yet to try a margarita, but I'm sure I will soon. Really like supporting local businesses. God food, but I have noticed that my usual arroz con pollo meal seems to get smaller and wirh less sauce and no cheese. Love supporting thrm, but may need to look elsewhere. read more

Parking lot is tiny, not for trucks. The service was so-so. The food wasn't good. I got a veggie burrito, asked what veggies were in it and asked for no mushrooms... it had carrots and broccoli in it . My first bite with broccoli I'll never forget it was so disgusting. Their menu doesn't say carrots and BROCCOLI. So gross. My husband got carne asada and was impressed (which is hard to unimpress him). We were stuck in the corner and watched people order way after us, eat and they were almost paying when we finally got our food. read more

Once again I just can't say enough about this place! Shelton has very limited, good, sit down places to eat at. We come here quite often because #1 the food is really good! #2 the owners, staff, cooks are all very friendly and aim to please. # prices are what they are now and they are competitive with pricing. I do have to give a very big shout out to the waitress Margarita, she, her husband and family are absolutely amazing! we have never walked away from here feeling let down. Dinner was delightful! Take out was easy to order and pick up, they have a nice, private parking lot. The service was friendly on the phone and inside. One thing Shelton is flush with is Mexican food restaurants. Saw good reviews at this place so wanted to give it a try. Beans with the chips is nice but the beans were bland/runny and the chips were just okay. Had the lunch version of carnitas enchilada. The meat was really good, but overall it was a very small portion, even for a lunch size. Would give this place another shot, but my first experience there was just okay. read more

What the heck happened???? 05/06/2023 we ate here and LOVED it, last night was a total disaster, drinks were weak and watery margaritas (did you forget the tequila?), I ordered CHICKEN flautas and they gave me Beef flautas, I pointed this out the waiter and he came back with his little note book to argue with me and it said CHICKEN in his own hand writing, and he later brought me chicken flautas. No one was happy with the food on their plate, for what we paid and the service we got, this went from being great to I will never eat there again. read more

Visiting from California and we were in Shelton for Vance creek rail riders excursion on Wednesday September 1st. We were so hungry after pedaling, we asked mark our guide of somewhere to eat nearby that he recommended. He told us about this place and boy he knows his Mexican food. It's the most amazing Mexican food we have ever had. And our server whom I forgot her name, was amazing, attentive, and friendly! We had the chicken nachos, torta ahogada with shrimp and shrimp tacos. Every bite was amazing and flavorful! The portions are also amazing! You won't be disappointed. read more

Not the best Mexican restaurant. Tasteless and bland. The beans were just brown liquid, zero beans in that. And the rice tasted like rice a roni. Chimichanga was soggy not crispy and the chicken inside tasted like canned chicken. Never going back. Drinks weren't good either. read more

Food was good. The only problem was I went to their website menu to check prices before I placed my phone order. I got there to pick up and it was much more. I didn't want to make a scene so I just accepted it and went on. I didn't see a date on the menu so I assumed it was correct being on their website, but it was not close ; one item on website was $17.99, when I picked up it was $23.99. I could understand if the menu online was a photo I could see where it might be different depending on date picture taken. The staff were all friendly and my family liked the food so I might eat there again. I just learned lesson to verify prices ahead of ordering. read more

The beans were so sour tasting they were inedible, very disappointing. Haven't ordered them in a while and probably won't again. For $60 to not be able to eat half the meal definitely not worth it. I called the restaurant just to let them know they might want to taste theyre beans and they got mad.. I wasn't asking for a refund or anything just letting them know. Me and the wife went last night. The service was pretty good , but the food. Oh my god, it was terrible. First of all it had no flavor, second my Changa was smaller than an El Monte They spread out tons of rice, and beans to make my plate look bigger. The Changa that I take on the road ( truck driver ) has a lot more meat. My wife's Naches were like a pancake almost one layer of chips, chips are cheap, the salsa was like tomato water. I know times are tough, but we would gladly pay more for better food. We got the shaft here 5+ years ago, We thought we would give it another shot. Done with them, I make better at home. read more

Friendly staff, they strive to get your order correct. Favorite items are the skinny margaritas and pollo asado, my husband loves the molcajete. Great little spot, fun music, usually playing the Seattle sports games. I love going to this restaurant, but I avoid this place every Tuesday and Wednesday. Caesar is the best server and really friendly and always knows what we like and remembers my family every time we come in. The lady that works Tuesdays and Wednesdays always charges us for things that Caesar never does and she changes prices every time we come. Caesar never changes the prices and sticks to what the menu says. Don't know why she never sticks to what the menu says. The food is awesome, let me start with that. I had a to-go order of chicken mole a few days ago and it was really good. The problem I have is the portion size and the PRICE. I paid $14.50 for a round container that was mostly pico and about 1/3 chicken mole (beans, tortillas and rice on the side)...I bet the lunch portion (which is half the price) is the same size! It couldn't possibly be LESS food than what I got for the "dinner entree". I love the food but the price for the amount you get is not worth it. I'll make my own mole and feed my whole family for that price. read more

I have been searching for decent Mexican restaurants for a while. Some are just meh, others started good but have gone downhill. This place is great and has continued to be so. I tried their Guadalajara Burrito this time around (with asada) and was quite pleased - had to remind myself not to eat the whole thing in one sitting, but it tasted too good to stop! Their salsa is a bit on the spicier side, so if you are sensitive to heat ask for some sour cream. They also provide a bean dip for their chips, which is a nice change. What a great place for dinner; the service was very helpful, fast, and polite. The restaurant is very clean and intimate, and nice for a date. Before we left, a saxophonist started to play! The chips and salsa were very fresh, the chips didnt taste like old oil, very crisp and clean, perfect amount of fry and salt, they also came with very well seasoned and smooth refried beans, refills without asking. My husband had the chicken crema burrito, it came with a side of guac, no rice or beans, there was beans and well seasoned moist chicken inside the burrito, was generously portioned, the crema sauce had a nice season, was a light pink sauce, so good! I had the arroz con cammerones which came with onions and green peppers, fresh cleaned shrimp, I did miss the celery, carrots, and mushrooms that are commonly mixed in as part of this dish in almost every other place I've eaten it, and this has been a favorite of mine for probably 30 years. I did NOT miss the cheese on top, some establishments have a tendency to drown the dish with it., this didn't have any. Our food was very tasty and authentic, we will go back. The only reason I took a star is because they did skimp on my rice that had waaaaay to many grilled onions mixed in as filler, and typically with this dish theres extra sauce on the plate, there wasn't. They didn't skimp on the shrimp they were very generous but left the tails on which I didn't appreciate because for this dish the ingredients are pretty mixed together and I didn't enjoy picking the shrimp out and pulling hot tails off, who wants onion fingers for the night! The total without drinks for our two dishes and a delicious freshly made flan was $39. For fresh food, generous servings and a romantic dinner or family dinner, definitely check it out!
