Worst mangonadas, worst elotes! I'm not sure where they got the name "gran sabor" from.

She encouraged me to sample whatever caught my eye. Strawberry is usually my go-to, but the Carmelita Crumble won me over this time. I ordered it in a waffle cone and was a happy guy! With no other customers inside, Mo and I had time to chat about the Oklahoma Passport, traveling, ice cream, and careers. I really appreciated her friendliness and the chance to enjoy a conversation along with my ice cream. These are the little moments that make exploring local places so worthwhile. The only challenge was parking. Construction on 23rd made finding a spot a little difficult during my visit, so I had a short walk in the rain. It certainly didn't dampen my enthusiasm! Came for the passport stamp, stayed for the ice cream and conversation. Thanks, Mo, for making this such an enjoyable stop!

You can grab some ice cream and walk around the Uptown 23rd district. My favorites are the cookie butter and the Carmelita crumble. But I usually go for one of the season flavors because they're always such an adventure! Tip: They'll let you do two flavors for a single scoop. If you want to try a bunch, pick the mini scoop flight!

My family and I were one of many who had the opportunity to try Contrabandz when they visited our…read moreneighborhood. We saw the menu, photos and employees work hard. Prices ranged $7-$10. It was $8 for rolled Icecream in a cup and $10 for rolled ice cream in a taco waffle cone. My family ordered $38 worth of rolled ice cream, 4 flavors, one in a dish and 3 in taco for. It was nice to watch through the window. Made me nervous with the whole covid thing going on. They did have sanitizer available if needed. Once our ordered were ready we picked them up. They looked good. But, upon taste they all lacked flavor. It was so bland. It was as if the poured milk on the frozen plate and put whatever ingredient in the milk to make the rolled ice cream. There was no sweetness to it. I was supposed to have Oreo ice cream. It was like watered down Icecream. I noticed the toppings they use. All toppings for my Overdose lacked flavor, except for the whipped cream. If my memory serves me Right it was squeeze bottles of the Smuckers brand. Their sauces are not the best. My flavor said it was topped with Oreos and the ice cream was Oreos. It was not Oreos, it was the generic brand of a chocolate sandwich cookie. I was not impressed, alone with so many others. The price for my Overdose taco was $10. I feel it was way over priced. If there was better ingredients, and it tastes great, $10. But, $5 is what mine was worth. I really hope they change things around, because I would love to see them last for many years. Do not cut corners.

Tons of choices but I loved how they had pictures of what each thing was. I'm all about pictures if I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into. Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on Mexican street food. I've only had a few things and only a handful of times. We got the Elote Entero, Chilindrina, Chamango, and Fresca de Creme. Elote tasted great! It's a fam favorite so no surprises there. The Chilindrina and Chamango were new to us. We liked the Chilindrina but we're a little on the fence about pickled pig skin. I can't say we'll have a craving to eat it again but we did finish what we got. Chamango - sweet, salty, sour and slightly spicy. We were pleasantly surprised. Tried to imagine what it would taste like before we got there but we actually enjoyed the flavor explosion. It hits all your taste buds at once. Fresca de Creme was literally dessert. Since we have nut allergies in our family, they omitted the granola just incase but it tastes like cream, strawberries, ice cream, and whipped cream. Yum! Service was great. It's during COVID season so no seating inside but they were wearing a mask which I appreciate. We placed our order and sat back in our car until they called us. It's a small joint, nothing fancy but they definitely attract crowds. There seemed to be a constant stream of people. We're slowly branching out and trying new flavors. I'd say this was a great start.

At Neveria, chamango has mango chunks in 2 flavors of ice cream, spicy or non spicy, and sprinkled with flavored salt. Like I said the chamango was delicious. I am not sure about the price of nine dollars and some change. A little pricey for me. The pineapple fruit drink was also pricey, 7 dollars and some change for a large drink. This is about the same price as a boba tea which I also think is pricey. It's a good store that sells good products. Is it worth the cost though? I am not entirely sure. I'll come back but it's not going to be often, a little expensive.
