They were tasty and the cabbage they brought to the table in a jar was excellent. The 3 salsas they brought to the table were also very good. However, the main meals were a dud. The pollo en crème was bland and the chicken meat was almost purple. The rice was ok, but not as good as I've had at other Salvadorian restaurants. The salad usually is served with a little ranch dressing elsewhere, but was dry here. The other meal we got was the carne asada, again the quality of the meat was not great. The seasoning on the meat was good. The beans tasted like beans out of the can and were room temperature. Overall, very disappointing. I wouldn't recommend making an effort to stop here, but if you do, stick to the Pupusas.

To make things worse, I overheard another table complain about their food, and while the server was fixing the issue, the chef came out and just stared at them in a really uncomfortable way. Prices have also gone up a lot.. over $5 for a horchata with no refills and $4 for a soda with only one refill. For the quality we got, it just doesn't feel worth it. Nice server, he was attentive and kind but overall poor food quality and high prices mean I won't be coming back.

I'm familiar with Mexican American food, a little bit with truly authentic Mexican, and not at all with Salvadoran. Chef Joseph came out from behind the counter and sat at my table explaining the menu to me, the dishes, the flavor profiles. He gave suggestions on what order based on what I told him I liked. I got one of the combo dishes mainly because it offered a variety of proteins and side dishes. I also saw several more items in the menu that I knew I wanted to try on my next visit. The food was delicious! I surprised myself by finishing the whole plate. I was also delighted to find La Cocina De Mary had atole. It's a traditional cold weather drink made with masa harina, milk, and spices. My tia made it when I was a kid, so there's fond memories.
