The chicken…read moresoup (Sopa de Pollo) is the best, and while I haven't had chicken soup anywhere else in KC, based on what I had I can confidently say that this is the best chicken soup in KC. This is no canned soup slop, no way, all homemade. Big pieces of chicken, or in my partners bowl a whole leg on bone, in a authentic bone broth makes it sooooo flavorful that you can tell that love was the most important ingredient. The restaurant has character with Latin music playing on TV's giving it a good vibe. The people are super nice and makes it feel like your eating at a family's home. I will definitely be back to try some more delicious food!

Walking in you'll find it's a very bright, cheerful atmosphere, very clean, with about ten tables (I think), and two tv's playing Spanish music. The people are nice and very efficient. Chef Joseph is phenomenal. He was manning the register when I went in. I'd never been to a Mexican & Salvadoran restaurant before. I'm familiar with Mexican American food, a little bit with truly authentic Mexican, and not at all with Salvadoran. Chef Joseph came out from behind the counter and sat at my table explaining the menu to me, the dishes, the flavor profiles. He gave suggestions on what order based on what I told him I liked. I got one of the combo dishes mainly because it offered a variety of proteins and side dishes. I also saw several more items in the menu that I knew I wanted to try on my next visit. The food was delicious! I surprised myself by finishing the whole plate. I was also delighted to find La Cocina De Mary had atole. It's a traditional cold weather drink made with masa harina, milk, and spices. My tia made it when I was a kid, so there's fond memories. This one was better ... and lucky for me tia isn't on Yelp and will never read this. They have soft drinks and a few alcohol drinks that I may try next time. The one that's a bloody mary except with beer instead of vodka sounded interesting. Next time I go, I'm taking FPO with me. This is a great little place and I hope they're there for a long time to come.

Perfect for before and after the meal. We also loved the yuca and plantains. I was so excited to eat my pupusas that I forgot to take a picture, but the chicken and cheese was phenomenal as was the cheese and loroco. Our server was the sweetest and took great care of us, we will be back soon!! There are 6 to 7 tables in the place, so cannot fit too large of a group, but definitely was still comfortable! It is also located on a section of Parallel Parkway that is split with a gas station in the middle, so do take care when pulling out into traffic that you are going the right way!

This is the kind of place the locals visit. The food was hot, freshly made and tasty. I loved that I got to try new things. The Loroco bloom was different. It was very unique and hard to describe, but I'd have it again. Also hard to identify is the unique flavor in the horchata drink, which I really liked too. I want to come back and try every drink. And of course eat more pupusas with curtido, because that slaw is wonderful. My hubby really enjoyed the sauce.
