    Horchata

I had a great time trying El Rinconcito Salvadoreño for the first time! The location is great off of 79th and Quivera Rd. The space is huge and decorated with colorful signs and pictures. I ordered horchata to start which was excellent! It was so creamy, flavorful, and refreshing! I then ordered fried plantains (not pictured) which were my favorite part of the meal! The plantains were delicious and paired with really well-seasoned black beans! I'm not a huge fan of beans normally, but these beans were to die for. For my main course, I ordered two kinds of pupusas - steak & cheese and shrimp & cheese. The steak pupusa was just okay and could use more flavoring. The shrimp pupusa was very tasty! I'm giving 4 stars only because the service wasn't the best. I sat waiting for my waiter probably over a half an hour to come by and grab my card at the end of the meal. I finally went to the front entryway and found out that they run your card at the front register. I could've avoided lots of wait time if I was told to bring my check to the front at the end of the meal! Besides that, I had a great time and very much enjoyed my meal!

This new Salvadoran restaurant offered an extensive menu, a nice dining area with Salvadoran background music and a tasty meal during my dine-in lunch visit. The pollo en crema ($12.99) was served 11 minutes after I ordered at the table, where the service was accommodating. I liked the generous quantity of tasty chicken, the flavorful cream, the light and fluffy rice, the fresh salad and the two fresh, warm tortillas. One hot sauce was available upon request to spice things up, if needed. I noticed an upper-level dining area (currently closed) and a patio. Overall, very nice.

Stopped by for a lunch break and we appreciated the quick and friendly service. Despite being open for two weeks, the restaurant had a decent amount of lunch customers. I was excited and very pleased with the three types of pupusas I tried. Revueltas (mixed) was probably my favorite. The beans adds a creaminess to the pupusas that I liked while the pickles brought the perfect amount of crunch to the dish. My husband tried the Pollo con Tajadas which was presented beautifully. The chicken was well marinated and I loved the crispy plantains underneath. I personally was not a fan of the pink sauce but my husband enjoyed it. Overall, it was a bit much for lunch but yummy. We saw a lot of people with soups so we will be back to try the soups!

You know when a restaurant is good when all of the customers are local native speakers. My friends and I were actually the only non-Spanish speaking there this night! I've never had Salvadoran food before, but this place was great. Very flavorful, and the workers were very kind and helpful in explaining dishes/ingredients. I got the breakfast special which included eggs, cinnamon plantains, some type of white sauce, and refried beans, and handmade tortillas. Filling the tortillas with those ingredients made for a very savory breakfast taco. I also got a corn tamale, which wasn't too sweet and not dry! Lastly, I got a pork/cheese/loroco pupusa. Upon request, you can ask to switch out the batter from regular flour to rice flour! I highly recommend this because it makes for a different crisp and texture that my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed! We're Korean, so it actually reminded us of certain pan fried rice flour dishes. They also give a bowl of some cabbage mixed with some other veggies that's a little vinegary, spicy and pairs very nicely with the pupusas. It balances the cheesiness or any oily/greasy feel you may have. Also pair with their habanero chili sauce (if you can take the heat )! This location is their second location located near 87th and Lenexa! Definitely check them out and try their pupusas!

As a Salvi myself, I am very impressed with this place! The staff was friendly, the service was great, the menu was very extensive. I had the breakfast (Desayuno típico), which is THE BEST classic breakfast in El Salvador and IT! WAS! FIRE! We also ordered pupusas, naturally ;) Couldn't get enough. Definitely coming back!

Pollo en Cream / Chicken with Salvadorean cream

Fantastic flavor, fast service. Portion size was generous - each chicken entree came with a leg and thigh. I was happy they were able to sub sweet plantains instead of crispy plantains with my dish. I should have gotten the horchata - it's huge!

I think these are the best papusas in the city. Also, the curtido here is also my favorite.

Walking in you'll find it's a very bright, cheerful atmosphere, very clean, with about ten tables (I think), and two tv's playing Spanish music. The people are nice and very efficient. Chef Joseph is phenomenal. He was manning the register when I went in. I'd never been to a Mexican & Salvadoran restaurant before. I'm familiar with Mexican American food, a little bit with truly authentic Mexican, and not at all with Salvadoran. Chef Joseph came out from behind the counter and sat at my table explaining the menu to me, the dishes, the flavor profiles. He gave suggestions on what order based on what I told him I liked. I got one of the combo dishes mainly because it offered a variety of proteins and side dishes. I also saw several more items in the menu that I knew I wanted to try on my next visit. The food was delicious! I surprised myself by finishing the whole plate. I was also delighted to find La Cocina De Mary had atole. It's a traditional cold weather drink made with masa harina, milk, and spices. My tia made it when I was a kid, so there's fond memories. This one was better ... and lucky for me tia isn't on Yelp and will never read this. They have soft drinks and a few alcohol drinks that I may try next time. The one that's a bloody mary except with beer instead of vodka sounded interesting. Next time I go, I'm taking FPO with me. This is a great little place and I hope they're there for a long time to come.

This is no canned soup slop, no way, all homemade. Big pieces of chicken, or in my partners bowl a whole leg on bone, in a authentic bone broth makes it sooooo flavorful that you can tell that love was the most important ingredient. The restaurant has character with Latin music playing on TV's giving it a good vibe. The people are super nice and makes it feel like your eating at a family's home. I will definitely be back to try some more delicious food!
