There was something in it that resembled a prune and I was wondering what the hell is prune doing in my Tortilla soup. My curiosity got the best of me so I cut it in half and popped a piece in my mouth. Then the heat set in, it wasn't a Prune after all it was a Chipotle Pepper. Anyway the soup had avocado and some chunks of Mexican Cheese in it, highly recommended. For my first course I had the Shrimp Dorado which was pretty tasty too. The dish had 5 huge Prawns stuffed with Chihuahua cheese and wrapped with bacon. The restaurant seems to be lacking in atmosphere so I had to dock them a star. This place is really popular with the locals, you won't find too many gringos here.

We also ordered a few flan which were perfectly made; so creamy and delicate: just the right amount of sweet. The enchiladas were balanced and the presentation was appetizing. The fettuccini was classically delicious. What a breathe of fresh air after several very sub par meals in several towns on our way. We're optimistic for the faire in Sinaloa. Very satisfied! The service has been excellent as well. Love that they are compassionate about us English speakers!

The menu is a variety of panninis, salads, smoothies and shakes. The chicken cesar salad was tasty, with the traditional dressing. Croutons are freshly made and the serving size was generous. The panninis were served on a freshly-baked wholegrain bread that was very light, but held together well throughout the meal. The smoothie was just OK. The meal was good, not stellar, and did not blow our socks off. Overall, I give 4 stars for the freshness of the ingredients, flavor and value. 1 Star taken away because a place that focuses on smoothies should make remarkable smoothies. Aside from that, it's a convenient stop next to the hotel, and you could do worse than having lunch here.

The nightlife in Los Mochis is similar to that in Spain; when the sun goes down, the party starts…read more Driving around Los Mochis at 9:30 pm, it is not unusual at all to see streetside restaurants or cafes with the outdoor seating areas packed with patrons socializing and enjoying a late evening meal or drink. We arrived at La Mentirosa at 9:45 pm and sat in the outside dining area. The weather was perfect; warm and slightly humid with a breeze. We were greeted promptly with menus and the waiter took our drink orders. I got a white Russian, my wife had the Margarita Tamarindo. The menu had 2 sides to it, both loaded with clever fun: just read it and you'll get it. On one side there were drinks and desserts, apps and food on the other. There are a variety of American and Mexican apps to choose from, plus regional specialties. The drinks arrived quickly, prepared perfectly. The white Russian had a distinct line between the Kalhua and cream and the Margarita had chamoy-chile and salt rim, with a piece of chamoy Tamarindo to garnish. My wife and I went for the jugular and ordered the Molcajete mixta--this is a combination of chicken, beef, shrimp, chorizo, pan-fried Queso Panela, grilled long green onions, potatoes, cactus and cheese quesadillas topped with salsa, served in a hot mortar. It was accompanied by a side of charro beans and flour and corn tortillas. The food arrived quickly and we were instantly happy that we decided to share the dish, as it is PLENTLY for 2 people. The tortillas were both corn and flour, so we had to dig to the bottom of the tortilla keeper for the corn variety (it's interesting to note that flour tortillas are more popular in this region than corn, even though the area is a big agricultural area for corn; this is why flour tortillas are served on top of the corn tortillas in the keeper). The meal went down nicely, accompanied by extra salsa and Pico de Gallo. There were leftovers and we left satisfied. If you are out and about in Los Mochis at night, this is a great spot for drinks and food with a group before your evening begins.

Any tortilla or bread product used in the breakfast dishes are baked/prelared on site, daily. Coffee: generous cup served with real cream on the side, and there are two styles: American and Cafe Olla. The cafe olla is prepared with chocolate and cinnamon, it comes slightly sweet so nothing else but cream needed and it is just delicious. Fresh fruit: prepared daily, perfectly ripe. All juices are FRESHLY SQUEEZED daily. I mean, just pure goodness with minimal pulp, and it's so refreshing. And fresh fruit is pushed here. When we were at the table, a girl came by with a fruit cart (see picture) offering a promo: if you order a large juice, get a fruit cup for 85 cents. See the pic, it was a serious fruit cup with cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, papaya, strawberry, grape and a lime wedge...and all perfectly ripe. Plates: just check out the menu. There is a focus on regional specialties, so queso Panela and sweet corn tamales/tortillas are seen frequently. The salsas are different here, than in northern Mexico on the border. There is a focus on the SAVORY, not so much on SPICY, yet there is still kick. I, as an El Pasoan, find it to be more balanced than some northern dishes...and that could accurately describe food here; it is well balanced. There are many dishes that are sweet, spicy, savory, soft and crunchy, and all at the same time. Flavors and textures abound. Bakery: The pictures here do not do it justice.
