There had been a standing debate in the town of sedalia about this mexican restaurant vs the other. I think my choice is this one! The beef chimichanga was well seasoned and flavorful as well as the right portion size. It came with rice, refried beans, pico, sour-cream and guac. Just how I like it! They had 2.99 marg specials for happy hour and I could not resist. Service was fast!! I will say I did not care for the flan as it was more spongey and not soft/moist. Mediocre food at best. We found all the food to be very bland. Our waiter definitely did not seem like he wanted to be there as our service was abrupt, careless and unfriendly. We went just after the lunch hour rush so maybe he was tired, but he didn't greet us or ever even look at us and seemed annoyed when we didn't make our food decision immediately. He sat our waters down then the silverware/napkins down on the opposite side of the table to where we had to reach over for them and just walked away. It was so strange. The food is okay but not great. The margaritas are watery and lacking in flavor. The service was fine, courteous, but it feels like they try to rush you out when there aren't many people there. Absolutely excellent service from the minute you walk in the door. I mean these guys are on it, polite, super quick, helpful. You could probably come in, eat and be served and leave in the amount of time it takes to get drive through McDonalds. Food- excellent, fresh. On our way back to KC from Lake of the Ozarks, we stumbled upon this Mexican restaurant in Sedalia. This is one of those places that is technically Texmex but leans a little more toward the mex side. Chips were hot and crispy and salsa was very good. If you order the spicy salsa and mix it with the regular mild it's a winning combo! I also have a rule when I go to a New Mexican restaurant; If they have molcajete on the menu, I order it. Beef, chicken, shrimp, cactus and cheese in a hot lava bowl! The molcajete here was very very good! Husband ordered the fajitas and also really liked them. When traveling to and from the lake this will definitely be a stop we will try to make! read more

We have had dinner quite a few times in the past and has always been great. Tonite however was the worst food we have ever had in a long time. The food was bland and burnt. Almost like it sat in a warming window to long. Very disappointed tonite especially since we spent $70.00 on it. Service was horrible as well. The waiter acted like we did not exist and was very hurried when he had to do anything for us. They were not even that busy especially with how many people were working. The small city has a disproportionate number of excellent and authentic Mexican restaurants and taquerias. They are owned and staffed by people knowledgeable and passionate about the cuisine of their native or ancestral country. El Espolon is one of the anchors of the city's offerings, with excellent food and service reflective of that status. The menu is extensive, the wait staff professional and friendly, the prices ridiculously reasonable (lunch menu includes weekends). My co-workers, one of them is Mexican, said that this is the best Mexican restaurant in Sedalia. We had to try it on our Anniversary. It was Friday night and the parking lot was full, but they were able to accomodate is right away. Their chips and salsa were good. My husband got enchiladas and I got the fajitas! They were delicious. The fajitas for 1 person were very big and it can definitely feed 2-3 persons. I would like to go back again and try their other food! I'm giving an extra star because my husband enjoyed his steak enchilada. I took a bite and didn't like it at all. The steak was fine, but it was in a flour tortilla and had a nacho cheese sauce. No thanks. The chips had zero salt and were too cold to salt them myself, though of course, I tried. I got a combo with beef taco, beef and bean tostadoguac and a chili relleno. Thank God for the chili relleno, it was good. I love ground beef, but they ruin theirs and then bury the plate with it. Greasy and the flavor is off, but abundant. No beans on the tostadoquac, just beef. It was a huge uneaten mound on my plate, the waiter didn't ask. He also charged me for a soda I didn't order or receive. Big nah. read more

Stopped at this restaurant on my way thru Sedalia with my daughter on recommendation of Yelp reviews. It was the middle of the afternoon, so not a peak time, yet service was extremely slow, as it seemed most of the employees were hanging out on their phones in a nearby corner of the restaurant, and our waiter was polite but scarce. The food was standard Mexican food at best. The refried beans were the best thing on the plate. It felt like they over compensated for lack of flavor in the meat by drowning it in spicy sauce. Mexican food is a family favorite for us, but we did not take any leftovers home. Salsa tasted oddly like Italian spiced tomato sauce. Overall, this restaurant might be enjoyable for some, but not for us. read more

But came home from Georgia for 2 weeks and went to eat twice and service was good as in being there but not paid attention to order and both times meals and price because of food was unacceptable! We spent 4 years in South Texas and my wife is from Tucson AZ, so we are pretty critical when it comes to Mexican food. Saying this, we found our spot in Missouri. They've got all the things you'd generally expect, etc. I wasn't blown away by the salsa or chips but they were both fine and free (I know that SHOULD be a given but I've been to a Mexican restaurant where you had to pay which is RIGHT OUT). I had been told to try the Pollo Bandito. I was not disappointed AT ALL. The chicken was all well cooked and moist and drenched in a really delicious cheese sauce. It was EXCELLENT. At first blush this appears to be a standard local Mexican restaurant which offers Americanized versions of traditional Mexican entrees. That evaluation isn't too far off the mark. That being said, this place stands out for its expansive menu and combination options. I didn't know what to try so I got the "Little of Everything" meal for the whopping total of about $13. This landed me two full large plates of food that I didn't stand a chance against, and it was tempting to try to finish! Nicely done! The only real negative I would say is the salsa that came with the chips. It had the consistency and kick of tomato soup. First time at this location. It was pretty good. I really liked the chimichanga. Their salsa could be better. We had great service and the portion size is good. I had a combo plate with an enchilada, chili relleno and the chimi. I didn't like the salsa verde on the enchilada, but that was my own "taste" issue, not that there was anything wrong.
