Could have sworn I already provided a review... but evidently not. It's the hubs favorite Mexican joint in town. We usually sit in the bar and they always tKe.good care of us. It was our first time going for Cinco de Mayo today. I wanted chorizo and found the Molcajete Mexicano that had ALL the meats and cheese. It was delicious! Once we ordered a large cheese dip. Figured it would be a little bigger than the salsa bowl, but it was gigantic! Soup bowl size... I was so shocked, but we ate most and brought the rest home. This location gave me food poisoning. I called a to go order and they messed it up. I called back and they offered to remake the one they messed up. I was the only one who ate the remade or fixed dish and got violently ill from it . Extreme diarrhea and vomiting for almost 2 days. I will never go back to this location. It's also the same food as every El Espolon or El Jimidor as the food all tastes the same. They don't even have corn tacos with onion and cilantro. Came in and got a Margarita and order the medium.., 16 oz. Didn't seem right so I questioned it. She said yea that's a 16 oz. Immediately after I order a 12 oz beer and funny 12 oz beer filled the glass. Asked her about it and she said oh have to add the ice. A great spot for my quick and tasty lunch. The person I was with said that this place had a good, inexpensive lunch. And he was right. It's also quick, and there are rooms with tables that go on forever. So even though it got busy very fast, there always seemed to be a place to seat someone. I ordered Flautas Mexicanas. ("Two deep fried corn tortillas, stuffed with chicken or shredded beef. Served with guacamole salad and sour cream.") They were thickly stuffed with meat (I chose one chicken & the other beef) that was quite savory. Tortillas were thick enough to hold up well and keep a golden crunchiness. The guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream was fresh tasting. Spanish rice and refried beans were generous, as most places are. Beans were pretty standard, with cheese melted on top. But the Spanish rice was really good. It wasn't dry, but had a light crispiness to it that I liked. It sure beat the soft, blandness that seems to be too common. All in all, what I got was very good. It was flavorful, generous, quick, and less than $8. read more

Went here for a retirement party. The place was clean and we had good service. They brought out plenty of food in big trays but, they were just placed on the counter (no heat to keep it warm). We dove in pretty quickly so it didn't really matter a lot. The chips and salsa were very good. The rest (steak and chicken fajitas) was just OK...no great but not bad either. read more

The low rating is specifically because my crunchy tacos, one beef and one shredded chicken, were completely SOAKED in water. And boy do I mean SOAKED. I had to use a knife and fork instead of eating it like a taco. Usually, the tacos are soggy, but today the amount of water rivaled the amount of filling. Seriously guys, you need to fix this huge problem. A person has about one minute to eat your taco before it is a mess! There is no reason to have so much water in a taco! It's not supposed to be taco soup. I've never had this problem making tacos at home. Am I a genius of Mexican cooking? No, I am a sensible person who doesn't want to drink my tacos. Came here last month and ordered the carne asada. I really enjoyed my food; it tasted delicious and I ate all of it. That was the only redeeming aspect of my experience eating here. Our service wasn't very great; there were long periods where our server didn't come to our table when we needed drink refills or our check. After about 25 minutes, I almost got up and went to look for our server so we could leave since it was late. We were also seated in a room where there were many families and children running around - it was very loud and I would have preferred to be seated somewhere quiet. read more

My coworker and I came here for lunch today. The saving grace was that our waiter was good, once he finally got to us. The food was mediocre, lacking a lot of flavor. It took FOREVER to get our food. And once we did, my coworker didn't even have the meat for his fajitas. Probably had to wait an additional 5 minutes before it came out. My coworkers and I visit El Espolon quite frequently for lunch. Food is always served quickly even though we generally have large groups.

I have been going to this place when it was still Eljimidors. I will say that the last several years it has gone down in the quality of service. The food was always pretty good but lately it did not taste very fresh and the basic stuff like chips where always cold and stale. The biggest change was the customer service pretty much everyone you talk to if you call an order in or pick it up or sit down the last 3-4 times my server was horrible. Family of 18 waited 1 hour 20 minutes for their food. That's just the first thing. They started delivering food, and 5 minutes in none of us had utensils or napkins. I ask Twice. I ordered a beef and been burrito ala carte. It was the worst thing I've even eaten, at any restaurant! For $5.99 I'd. Rather had gone to Taco Bell. Next time I will. Had lunch on Monday, Jan 11. Chicken chimichanga was tasty, but the other people with complained their food was cold inside and overall not very good. The salsa was REALLY GOOD, and I liked the cheese sauce. I had stomach problems the rest of the day, I suspect it was related to the food there.
