Since I speak no Spanish, the busy owner took my order, and I received only the best. His…read moregrandmother's chalupas, the namesake of the restaurant, were amazing. I had a Caldo Tlalpeño, which was delicious, especially with a little onion and lime. Instead of guacamole and chips, I had bread with avocado and cheese, perfect for dipping. For my main plate, I had the Mole Poblano con Pato, which is the city's famous mole sauce on a tender, properly cooked duck leg. Wow! Oh, and a Vampiro is now my favorite cocktail.

Great local food! This is right outside the Rosewood Hotel alongside 4-5 other restaurants. I came…read morehere for lunch in a group of 12. There's no air conditioning but the breeze comes through. We got the typical traditional Puebla dishes - * chile en nogada (stuffed poblano pepper in nut sauce and pomegranate) * cecina (thin, marinated salted beef) * green enchiladas * caldo (soup) with chili * mole with pork (cerdo) * chalupas combinadas (chalupas with red salsa, green salsa, mole) The bread with avocado and cheese is not complimentary - I think it was like 60 pesos per order, and they brought out 2 orders without asking. Deducting a star for that and the ambiance, or lack thereof. 75 pesos for 2 Palomas (citrus juice with alcohol and salt rim) or 2 sangrias during happy hour. Yes to the Palomas, even though it was made with lemon and not grapefruit juice. The agua fresca of lemon and chia seeds was refreshing too. Now the food is excellent. I don't think I had a favorite. They're all very different. The only thing I wouldn't get again are the chalupas. Fried dough doesn't appeal too much to me. The cecina was too salty for me, but I still enjoyed the flavor. The sweetness of the Chile en Nogada threw off my friends, but I liked it. Reminded me of Persian dishes like fesenjan. The mole was sweeter than I'm used to but was delicious, and the soup and enchiladas were great, too. The service is slow but the grandpa owner is the third generation owner whose grandma established the restaurant - and his grandchildren currently work at the restaurant, so 5 generations have been pouring into this establishment. Hearing the story makes it a part of the experience. So yeah! Recommended for food - perhaps even more so at dinner time when it's not so hot outside :)

Coworkers got the ribeye sandwich & were not impressed as it was dry. The ribs were good & so was the poke bowls. Definitely check it out as they have all types of food!

Okay, I will be blunt. My cousin brought my husband and I here to eat for lunch, and I really…read morestruggled to be nice and say that I liked it, when in fact I tried. The food was edible. The service was mediocre at best. I noticed after we had left that this is an apparent chain. My cousin has a thing for all things Americanized (unfortunately) including the corporatization of merchants, food, and anything that is corporate mentality related. We ordered a pizza because I couldn't find anything here that spoke authentic Mexican or something unique. What we had was a version of Margarita pizza, but we removed and added something between it and another. Unfortunately, the arugula topping on pizza shouldn't be. My cousin had ordered some appetizer that was just horrible. It was like salami or roast beef in soy sauce, and she said it was supposed to be Korean or something, which is not possible, but anyhow, I have to admit she likes to drink beer and maybe for someone who has one too many this is the place to come to. Overall, the menu had this hodgepodge of frivolity at the expense of trying to be hip. I would like to say that at least eating the pizza here was better than eating the lunch my aunt had made for us the day before. Overall, eating in Mexico has been a treat, so long as they didn't follow American corporate ideas.
