Friends we dined with asked what we'd been doing so far in Lisbon and we asked the same of them. El Corte Inglés wasn't just on their recommended list; It also came to me in a text message the following day, reminding me that I should go there. Wow. Amongst the things I didn't even know that I was pining away for, add an 8-story+ department store that is everything to everyone. We entered in a very high-end part of the store featuring all the luxury brands one knows then descended to a food court and movie theaters. From there, I moved on to explore the amazing lower-level supermarket before leaving there and strolling into the beauty/pharmacy department filled with products that both are and aren't available in the US. I took the escalator up, eyeballing what each floor held before disembarking at a floor featuring home furnishings, electronics, housewares, and Christmas decor then got together with my friends for a drink at a wine bar on the top floor. Someone else could write a book on all I likely missed here but what I saw guaranteed that from here on I'll be searching for El Corte Inglése in every place I travel. If you think it's odd to have a department store on your must-see list in Lisbon it's clear that you've not yet been to El Corte Inglés. read more

Great mall and shopping experience... on a rainy and chilly day in Lisbon, we decided to avoid the sudden downpours and took the train from the Rossio area to this mall. It was only about 4 stops on the blue line and there are signs from the station directing you to the mall. From the metro station, you arrive at the supermarket, food hall level 0. From there, there are 3 more levels down with various products and services for sale. Level -1 has a lot of cool stuff for sale, from toys, stationary, outdoor furniture. We identified some stuff in the supermarket before visiting the levels below with the intention of coming back to shop before we headed back to the metro. From level -3, we took the elevator up to the top floor, browsed some other food items for sale and then took the escalator down each floor and explored/shopped on the relevant floors. Then we went back to the top floor and picked a restaurant to eat dinner and then back to level 0 for grocery items. The mall is clean, organized and covers a range of budgets from high end luxury brands to more affordable everyday brands. We weren't hounded by sales people and got a glimpse of everyday life in Lisbon. Yes, we were traveling from thousands of miles away and only there for a few days but I found the experience fun if you're into shopping and seeing what a mid/upper tier mall looks like in Lisbon. read more

When I went to Spain a few years ago, I had visited El Corte Ingles and loved it. So when I found out they had a location in Lisbon, I definitely wanted to check it out. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't it. Maybe my expectations were set to high because of the Barcelona one (since it is a Spanish store after all), but the Lisbon one was just lacking. The food court was just filled with over-priced restaurants. The Cafeteria was reasonably priced, but none of the menu items appealed to us. There wasn't any Portugues menu items - it was just basic sandwiches, salads, and burgers. Visting the food court was our main reason for coming here so unless you are planning to actually shop here, I'd recommend skipping it. read more

We ordered a De'Longhi coffee machine from Corte Inglês as part of their Black Friday promotions. We are still waiting almost three months later. In that time, we've received about 12 emails promising that the coffee machine would be delivered in the next few days. However, once we started complaining, and raising our complaints to a high enough level, it turns out that these messages are generated by the Corte Ingles system automatically and bear no relation to reality at all. When we pushed Corte Ingles to check what the situation actually was, it turns out they had no idea when the item would be back in stock. In fact, we were given the advice to ignore emails from Corte Ingles about delivery dates, until we actually receive a message from the courier to confirm that the item is on its way. The problem is that every time we have received a message, we had to arrange our lives around it, to make sure that one of us would be at home on the given days. If the key to customer service is to under-promise and over-deliver, Corte Ingles has a system designed to do exactly the opposite. Every time we've tried to contact Corte Ingles on the phone, it's a painful process that takes a long time, and involves a lot of waiting. And quite often the phone has just cut off, and of course no one calls you back, you have to start again and go through the whole process again. If you need to speak to them in English, then that's a whole another level of pain and waiting. What is very surprising is to see the coffee machine still being offered on the Corte Ingles website as if it's still in stock! They're trying to get people to buy and them keep stringing them along with a stream of emails that say things that they know aren't true. Basically, you can't trust what's on the Corte Ingles website, you can't trust what they send in their emails, and you have to be very patient to get through to people who aren't going to tell you the truth anyway! What has happened to this brand?! Never again for us. read more

El Corte Ingles right off the Sao Sabastion metro line is amazing. They have an amazing selection of vegan foods and fresh produce I haven't seen anywhere else. The staff was so friendly and the cost was extremely affordable. So far this is the go to location and chain for vegan staples. read more

El Corte Inglés is a huge, indoor department store in the northern part of the city. Stocked with floors and floors of shops, it was the perfect place to burn a few hours and do some window shopping. There is literally everything you need from mass department store goods to luxury brands. My favorite shop here (as recommended by my friend) was Castelbel on the ground floor - offering wonderful Portuguese soaps, skin care, and candles. I would have bought up the whole store if I could - everything there was perfectly scented and spectacular. On the ground floor, they also offer duty-free tax refunds if you spend over €50 at one of the shops. I wasn't carrying my passport at the time but they accepted a photo copy of it on my phone, so phew! Got me back a few euros that I was later refunded once I left the country. read more

To start, being my first time in Portugal, I didn't know anything about El Corte Inglés (or that it was even a Spanish chain), except for a quick pop-in at one when visiting the Oceanaria in the Parque das Nações neighborhood of Lisbon (which was really limited in their selection of plant-based/vegan food stuff). It was unimpressive. So, on a recent visit to the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, we stumbled upon this north-city based ECI, which turned out to be a HUGE 7- or 8-storied megastructure, with a supermarket whose vegan selections was enormous!!! (WAY better than the Celeiro near our apartment in Bairro-Alto!) Now, my days of high-end clothes shopping are long over, but ECI's "department store" floors were VERY impressive, with clothes, kitchenware, appliances, electronics and such--if I lived in Lisbon, I'd definitely do a lot of my home goods shopping there for sure! We haven't tried any of the restaurants in the bottom-level food court; however, from what I could see, prices (as can be expected in any shopping mall) were a bit on the higher side, but not outrageous. Hey, if you're hungry, you're hungry, and people get hungry while shopping and don't really think much about prices! (And the last time we were there, long queues were formed at various popular eateries--no one seemed too concerned about prices! Lol!!) The supermarket, itself (which we've now been to more than a few times) is enormous--seems like there's a good 20 checkout stations, as well as two self-checkout sections (with multiple stands). The produce section is exceptional and packed to the brim with fresh and packaged goods. This particular El Corte Inglés is located in what appears to be the high-end district of Lisbon (there's so little graffiti here! Lol!!), right next to the gorgeous Parque Edouardo VII. And, too, with the Metro's Linha Azul's San Sebastiao station stopping right there and directly into the mall, it's so very convenient to get to from the "old city." We walked in through lingerie and passed clothing organized by occasion from party to weekend, work, swimwear, mens floors, children..... They sell everything here from electronics, housewares, Furniture, appliances .... The top floor was like a Harrods from London with gourmet foods and a food hall. The perfect place to bring back souvenirs. Everything was displayed beautifully. If we didn't have to carry things with us to a few more cities I could've done serious damage here. We took the elevator down to the basement with a Movie Theater & Fast food eateries. There are items at all price points here from high-end designer goods to things or a bargain. It was floors & floors, It felt like miles of shopping all in one place. The Iberian ham that are fortunate home a reasonable here. Beautiful shopping center with floors and floors of European fashion! They have about 2 floors dedicated only to shoes, other floors for women's apparel, men's and home décor. Incredible selection of everything for your home. They have beautiful selection of kitchen utensils and items to decorate your home in style. My friend and I tried one of their restaurants. I had a salmon wrapped in zucchini with mashed sweet potatoes and a side of spinach. It was delicious and very reasonably priced. My friend tried a chicken dish was she liked. Many items on the menu looked yummy. There were a couple of different restaurants there some more pricey and some with outdoor seating with beautiful views of the city. I would definitely recommend El Corte Ingles for shopping and lunch! read more

You could get lost in here for several hours. We did. We looked around just to see what they had as far as shopping goes (literally everything) then made our way to top floor for some food. So many options. We ended up going to a place that served paella and cannot remember the name of it to save my life. It's not listed on their website. We got lobster and crab leg paella and it was pretty delicious. Our little guy fell asleep after lunch so we ended up going out in the middle of the food court(ish) area (it's much nicer than a typical food court) and having a glass of wine. We bought some goodies to bring home and some things to make a charcuterie board once we made it to Lagos. This is worth the stop. It was quite a walk from where we stayed, though. read more

A must visit to get your tourist refund paperworks done the right way. They have a movie house and a supermarket and a food court. WE came in here to stay out of the hot sun. They have everything here. Let the sales person know you are doing the refund prior paying. They will input something in the computer then will ask you to proceed to the basement level for the paper works. read more

El Corte Ingles is always great, its a major department store all through Spain. Here in Lisbon the sub-level where you get off or catch the Metro has a mall type food court and my very favorite BIG grocery store in the city. On the very top floor of the store you will find many nicer dining options as well as a beautiful outside deck area with great free views of the city. read more

I love this place- many many many floors of amazingness!! There's a Tesla store here- should you want to pop one of their cars into your suitcase as a souvenir. Also, there's a Starbucks- which I needed, since I was charged with bringing home a Portugal mug. On the top floor you will find the gourmet experience- my favorite place for getting gifts. Unusual and delicious foods from all over the world- but especially from Portugal- you will find here. I found a lot of interesting convent made foods- sweet preserved damson plums, cakes and cookes, and I found the figs enrobed in chocolate that all my family loves- rabitos royale! And tea- they have so much tea! I found tea infused with port wine. Doesn't that sound amazing? And there's a Dammann Freres- I bought the vanilla infused tea as it smelled so amazing! It's not a cheap place to shop- but for the quality and the service and the unique items, it is kind of a value. AND you can get all your shopping done in one stop. I got all my presents bought in one fell swoop. Plenty of taxis lined up outside to take you and your purchases back to the hotel. It's also very close to the Gulbenkian museum- we walked over to shop after going to the musuem. read more

Okay, it's a department store complex, but it had surprisingly good food. Downstairs, they have both their supermarket and a food court with a variety of food purveyors. The supermarket includes a deli and bakery. The dishes we got from the deli were fresh and delicious. And the rolls and cakes (like the famous local pastels) from the bakery were also fresh and delicious. And all reasonably priced. The supermarket items we got (like cheese) were also tasty. The food court includes several kitchens using quality ingredients to make yummy meals. If you're going to eat in the food court, they provide your food on real plates/bowls on trays, which you then put in racks for cleaning, just like in a school cafeteria, and without generating tons of trash (like in typical American food courts). The seating area also features better quality tables and chairs, which helps make the whole experience surprisingly pleasant and appealing - even though, again, you're in a food court in the basement of a department store. read more

WOW! El Corte Ingles is just amazing! It's HUGE and has absolutely everything you could imagine. I think it's 7 or 8 floors maybe and all the floors are well organized and fully stocked with amazing stuff. There's women's and men's fashion, home goods, electronics (each has a dedicated floor!) and the top is high end groceries and restaurants with a luxury cafeteria vibe and amazing edible treats. We found some awesome and super tasty vegan biscuits upstairs and a lot of other fun novelty food. The basement, or "Super Cave" as they called it, has an AMAZING grocery store with everything you can imagine (including a whole "healthy" section that had a variety of vegan meats and cheeses and yogurts and things). We got lots of snacks to have for our trip and found some really cool little treats at the grocery store. We took our bread and v meats and v cheeses back to our hotel, Novotel is walkable but we took a 5 Euro Uber bc we were with my parents and they were tired. There is a Tesla station and a Starbucks on the first floor that stayed open and busy relatively late. This is a really cool shopping mall PLUS to check out! The elevators are big and well marked (in Portuguese and English). Great location, easy to get an Uber to and from. We actually took a tuktuk from downtown square and that was fun and fast too! read more

Definitely worth a trip to the 7th floor, but take the escalator as the wait for the lifts is crazy. You have a wonderful selection of eateries along with a gorgeous view. If the weather is fine you can sit outside. Try the chocolate cake at the first stand as you walk in. read more

This is for the Pressto laundry service inn the store. If you ate travelling and need the use of a wash and fold laundry service this is a great choice. It's located in the El Corte Englis store on the -4 floor. We ran into a little language barrier and thought or close world be ready same day and when we returned they noted it would be a Saturday. We are traveling and that would pose an issue. We asked and they were able to accommodate. Great customer service. read more

Alan accidentally left our computer's power cord on the ship in Paris. We discovered we didn't have it when we settled in at the Corinthia Hotel and unpacked. We called the ship, confirmed they had it, found that it wouldn't be possible to get it to us here and decided to buy another to keep us going until we get home. Rita at Guest Services recommended El Cortes Inglés, confirmed that they had a cord and directed us to the correct department. Her assistance was vital to our success. We put the computer and mouse in Alan's backpack and took a taxi over to the store. We asked where the technology department was and were directed to the 6th floor. We took the escalators up and located the department. Eventually we located the specific part of the department we wanted. A nice young man whose name neither of us noticed, helped us to test out whether the USB-C cord would charge the computer and confirmed that it would. He averted his eyes as Alan put in the code to unlock the computer. Very professional. Then he got a new one for us, opened the box and tested that it would work w/ our computer, which it did. Our computer, which had less than 8% power when we started, was up to 10% when we left the store and is now fully charged. He was very thorough and helpful and I was very pleased, because while Alan has two other devices to connect w/, this is my only one. We took the elevator down and it was much faster and more direct than the escalators. read more

This place is huge. Takes up a whole city block. I assumed it was just a department store and didn't go in because I was searching for what I was told was a supermarket. After walking a few more blocks we circled back and went in. Huge, multi floor expanse of retail space. But where is the supermarket? I don't want perfume or women's clothing! I finally asked and was directed to go 3 floors down and there it was. And I went straight to the wine section which is extensive! Love it! A little pricier than I would have thought but the selection more than made up for it. If I'm in Lisbon again, this will be my FIRST stop to stock up my hotel room! read more

This place is great! I love their movie theater and their grocery store. I have not tried the bakeries, but the restaurants there serve average food. It's great for when you have a lot of things to get done and do not have time to be running around all day. I love the new starbucks that opened recently. This is one department store I will never visit again including their branches anywhere in Europe! The staff are not trained properly and they have different rules on different floors!Their discount offer is very strange so beware of it! The restaurant on level one and the cafe on the top floor serve the worst food I have ever eaten in a so called reputable department store.The service was below average too! If you want to buy designer clothes & accessories, please buy them in the UK as they are not only cheaper but you get a far better service. I spent nearly 500 EUROS in that store and came back extremely dissatisfied with all my shopping! Never again! read more
