Good, friendly service. It was late for us to be eating, 7:30-ish. The restaurant was quiet except for the semi-obnoxious music. I don't mind some good background music but this was very repetitive and annoying. Besides that, the food was great! I loved their salsa and chips. Cheese sauce was A+ on my enchilada and Chimichanga. The rice and beans were seasoned really well - much better than most other Mexican restaurants. One star for lack of a zero. My wife wanted Mexican food, saw this place on the way to the village. Place was empty.... Warning sign!!!! We went in anyway, service was prompt, good salsa and chips. We went with the Acapulco sampler for a light lunch, we didn't know how light it would be. The only thing on that plate that was edible was the guacamole. Evert thing else was disgusting. Chicken taquitos were hard and tough, not just crunchy, HARD. The chicken wrap was cool to the touch and soggy, The meat on the nachos were extra greasy and tasted like yesterdays leftovers. I t was same meat in the enchilada so that was no better. I called attention to the poor quality food. Eddie came over and insisted this was the most popular dish, and that I must not eat Mexican food very much. Way to try and cast the blame for disgusting food on me!!!!!!! My dog was in the car waiting and I wouldn't even feed this to him. My rec. STAY AWAY! The absolute worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. The Bell serves better. First off there are now new owners and management. The food is a nice try, but not the same quality the previous owners. Smaller portion amounts. Previously on visits, our plates were always scorching hot and my fajitas we're on a cold cast-iron plate, not sizzling at all. I almost sent it back to the kitchen shut up Both of our entrees tasted bland and unseasoned. The queso was very watered down and nearly tasteless. Margaritas were a poor attempt, not prepared well and with about half the amount of alcohol as in previous visits. All of which was very disappointing, considering this was one our regular haunts. And what's up lately with all the Mexican restaurants in the Hot Springs requesting you pay by cash instead of card? I find it personally offensive that you want to get into my finances when I'm a patron at your business. How I pay is my choice. You never know what a government employee is in your midst. Pretty good Mexican food for pretty good prices. There were a couple of flies in our area of the restaurant, which was a little gross, but they stayed away from our food, thankfully. It smelled rotten and I couldn't eat it. The chicken and steak weren't amazing but they weren't bad either. My bf got street tacos as well and I have to say the marinated pork taco was so, so good. We had dinner here during our recent visit to the area and our experience was OK. But, the atmosphere isn't Mexican, the wait staff are not Mexican. I had the tamales and they were unlike many-many of the other Tamales that I have had elsewhere in the past. My wife didn't care for her meal either. Partitions between the booth sections for privacy & to absorb the noise. Beautiful black Bar seats 6, with a TV in the middle. Lunch Specials M-F range from $4.49 - $7.49. Combination Dinners are $7.49 with virtually every combination of items. I was pleased that the items on the Special Dinner $10.99 were attractively plated 4 & 3 on 2 platters. I could identify each item. Most restaurants pile multiple items onto 1 platter. Choice of Original Cheese or White American Cheese melted on the Burritos & Enchiladas. I love a tender Chili Relleno ~ this one was. I dislike being served one that won't cut with a fork or a knife. I ate half of each item & took the rest in a box for tomorrow's Lunch. Great little mexican restaurant off the highway. Prices are very reasonable, the food is great and and the dining atmosphere is really nice. The only issues, if you want to call them that, are they're a little slow on service and may not understand everything you say. I really enjoyed this restaurant and would drop in again. Ordered vegetarian quesadillas which apparently wasnt vegetarian since it came with rice made in chick stock and nobody seemed willing to see of the tortillas had lard in them, which I assume they did with how fluffy it was. I was talking to the waitress about this and found out that they are moving to a bigger location at the end of May 2009 (so yes, I will go back and update the info for y'all. I was going to take a picture, but I will wait until they are in their next place) The food was HOT. Not spicy hot, but sue McDonald's coffee hot! I am glad I was warned not touch the plate, because still about a few minutes into my meal the plate was still hot to keep the food hot and good. Mexican food is supposed to be hot! They have an extensive menu. Prices are inexpensive. I tired a lunch special of a big burrito, beans, and rice. I also got an order of my favorite: guacamole. The guacamole was good, but not the best I have had. I swear I am eventually going to change yelp headline to read "world tester of guacamole." I am looking forward to trying out the new place next month. The building they are currently in is small for them. However, they have done will the the space. Food was ok. Margaritas were drinkable with minimal tequila. My friend is vegetarian so she ordered the vegetarian quesadillas, however they were unable to tell her if the tortillas were made with lard and when asked the rice was cooked in chicken stock, so they weren't really vegetarian quesadillas. They were agreeable in switching the plate out for a salad, but the salad was just strange. I probably wouldn't recommend this place. It takes a lot to get me to write a review, but I want this to be known. We went to El Acapulco to eat (where we eat all the time). My daughter has some severe allergies to dairy and eggs (like we carry an epi-pen), and they are usually very accommodating to our special requests. Tonight we ordered a plain chicken breast (no butter, no nothing). Same as always. This time it came with rice and beans on the plate, some of which was touching the chicken. Just a mistake, no big deal. We wanted to know what was in the rice and beans to know if grace could eat them or not. We asked our waiter, who did not speak much English, and he quickly got the manager who does speak English. He comes over and I ask him if he knew what the beans and rice are cooked in/with. He responds with, "yeah, I don't know, and our cooks are really busy, so I can't go ask". Seriously. That was his answer. This guy is the MANAGER. I say "you CAN'T go ask?" "No, they're really busy. I can't go ask, can I get her anything else?" We sat there for a few more minutes and I decided that his answer was not acceptable. We needed to know because of her chicken touching the other stuff. So I went and got him and told him I need to know, and he needed to check. Reluctantly he did. And yes, the rice has butter in it. Which would have been really bad. After the meal, and after I sat there replaying the whole conversation a thousand times, I decided he needed to understand exactly why it was important to take allergies seriously. So, as we pay at the counter I ask to speak with him. "Man, when a customer asks what is in the food because their child has severe allergies, your answer is not 'The cooks are busy, I can't go ask'. Your answer is 'I'll go check on that right now'. Because if she eats that rice she'll blow up like a balloon, and I'll have to inject her with an epi-pen right there at the table!" As I was telling him this he had this smug grin on his face as he said "uh huh, yep uh huh." His answer? "I'm sorry, I was just really busy" SERIOUSLY. WRONG ANSWER That was enough to get my wife to step up and let him know that the possibility of taking a child to the hospital was a bit more important that him being busy. It's a bummer. I really liked that place, but they lost me tonight. I'll drive to the west side before I spend another penny in there. read more
