Having dealt with many mechanics in two different countries (the USA and the UK), I can say without a shred of doubt that Phillip runs the best, most honest garage I have ever found. Every time I brought my family's vehicles to him over the past three years, I got a truthful assessment of the situation and its costs as well as efficient and friendly service. It is evident that everyone who works at EJ Cockburn & Son takes great pride in their craft. This works itself out in a team of people working primarily for your trust and respect, rather than your money. On more than one occasion I simply brought my car in for some advice, and Phillip went out of his way to help and advise me on potential repairs or cost-effective preventative fixes. What's more, several times he didn't even charge me for this - the reason being, obviously, that he cared more about my return business and the mutual trust he works so hard to establish than a few extra quid. My husband and I can only say good things about Philip and EJ Cockburn. We drive older cars, so there are often problems with them. Each and every time Philip has gone out of his way to make sure he could look after our car as quickly as possible and for as inexpensively as he could. He is honest, reliable and ever so kind. I never have to worry if he is taking advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. He always explains everything thoroughly and gives us our options before fixing things. I have been frequenting Cockburn's now for nearly four years whilst at university, and I can honestly say they have been a pleasure to deal with. Alison in the office is quick to help and give some feedback, whilst in the garage itself, Phil, John and Ricky provide nothing but supreme service along with some jovial banter!! On the working side of things, myself personally being of limited budget, they were quick to help myself set up a plan that worked well within my means. Before, when I lived in London, I was always skeptical about garages and whether I was 'getting the right service', but the team at Cockburn's have changed this entirely for the better. I drive a lot of miles so being able to rely on the garage that I choose to service and repair my car is very important to me. On the recommendation of a friend I went to Cockburn's after fault lights kept coming on in my car. The mechanics were really helpful, explaining what could be wrong and what the potential cost and time-frame for repairs would be. The car was fixed when they said it would be, for the price they said it would be. A fantastic garage just outside St Andrews. I have been taking my cars here for MOTs for the last 2 -3 years. The owner, Philip, will happily talk through any work needing done and all costs involved before carrying out the repairs. Always feels like you get a friendly, personal service compared to one of the franchise places. A real gem! read more
