Absolutely disgusted by the way I have been treated by Arnold Clark. I am a self employed business…read moreman who has been a loyal customer and have my 5th van from them. My van broke down on 11th of August and was towed to Arnold Clark Kingsway Dundee. I was told the gear box had been burnt through and would need the gear box removed to check this. The van is only 2 years old and had done only 11,000 miles. I was the one who constantly contacted them and all I got were empty promises!! Eventually I had to take my van to another Garage to be fixed. It has cost me £2,169.60 plus loss of earnings of over £3,850. As it turned out it was a defective fly wheel that caused the damage to the gearbox!! I wonder how long ARNOLD CLARK will take to give me an apology....and my money back?????

Our Renault car was bought three years ago. We booked at Arnold Clark for its first MOT at the end…read moreof the three year warranty. The gears had always been stiff and we were told that we should have reported it when we first noticed it three years ago. With this in mind, why did the Arnold Clark mechanics not notice it or report it. The Gear box packed in a month later, but even though the law says that a purchase should be fit for purpose up to 6 years in England, where we bought the car originally, the Renault dealers would not give way and give us the full refund on the cost of the gear box. Instead they charged us £585 saying that the gear box had worn out. This is ridiculous for a three year old car regardless of the fact we did 60,000 miles. That is not a high enough to make a gear box pack in. Trading standards say that by two acts 1979 and 1980, we should have had the gear box replaced free of charge as this is not a wear and tear item. Arnold Clark are not very efficient. The first time we tried to book for the gear box fault, just a week after the warranty ran out, they told us we would have to wait three weeks to get a courtesy car. We live remotely so booked for a car. We went three weeks later and they had not got a courtesy car available, despite the fact that we had driven over 30 miles with a faulty gear box. We had to wait another 3 weeks, by this time of course, the warranty was two months overdue. Had we got the car in sooner perhaps we would have been just so near the end of the warranty we may have had a chance of a full refund. When they finally took the car in and changed the gear box, they rang and said the car would be ready to pick up. However, we were in Dundee ready to pick it up whilst they were trying to get in touch with us at the last minute to tell us the wrong mounting for the gear box had been sent and they could not let us take the car. They wanted us to come back the next day and I refused. This was the fourth visit and petrol 60 mile round journey is more cost. We refused to come in and they reluctantly decided to deliver the car to us. They made us feel that we were at fault and that they were doing us a favour. The staff, certain staff, were very rude to us, impatient, and treated us badly. We wont go there again. We wont buy a Renault again and we will make sure that Renault buyers know that their gear box could well go wrong in three years. I will be seeking more advice as to whether we can take these people to court. We were more or less blackmailed into having to accept the fee of £585.00 otherwise we would not have a car or a courtesy car. If the engine blows meanwhile, do we keep on paying out for such a young car? The warranty is irrelevant according to trading standards. What is relevant is that the car is covered on the 1979 and 1980 act which covers the car for 5-6 years as being fit for purpose and if not, then it should be repaired free for major parts such as gear box and engine. Rude people, terrible car. Wont bother again with Renault.Clio.

I can't advise more strongly against buying from this company. We bought a car from them, and…read moreshould have taken the warning that when we first picked it up, they couldn't locate the V5. They eventually found it (with the owners brother allegedly) and we took the car to find the damaged window and light that they promised to repair were not repaired, to make up for this they gave us a 3 month warranty (more on that to come). We took it to our families usual service centre to get serviced before driving down to the midlands, where they discovered the brakes were completely corroded. There was no way those brakes should have passed an MOT, but we decided if that was all, we'd fox them and just get on, as contacting Tay Cars and getting a response would take longer than we had due to having to move. Unfortunately, after doing that job, it was also discovered that the engine mounting brackets needed replaced, at a cost of 250 each, plus labour, and there are 4 of them. We left that for the time being, but were obviously quite upset about this. A week later when we had moved to the midlands, we noticed the air suspension was low and wouldn't adjust, plus when driving, i could see a green light reflecting on the dashboard with no apparent source of the light. Upon close inspection, i found electrical tape on the display, which when removed, revealed the engine warning light on, plus two suspension fault lights. I had this looked at and was told the air pump needed replacing, at a cost of 1200 for the part alone, not to mention labour. I contacted the warranty company who informed me the warranty only covered up to 500, however, due to the electrical tape, they considered the fault to be preexisting, therfore, not covered anyway. I spoke to citizens advice who said i was within my rights to return the car, or demand they pay for the repair, whichever Tay Cars would rather do, but of couse, as is the case all along, they didn't answer my calls, so i emailed them. After 3 or 4 emails, someone replied saying the manager was on holiday til the 27th, bear in mind, i first tried calling them on the 10th. After repeated calls and unanswered emails, we had to spend more money on another car as this one was by this point undrivable. We EVENTUALLY recieved an email from George on the 31st saying the were not going to do anything and they refuted what i had said. We are still trying to resolve this, in September, when we bought the car in July! All i can say is, Tay Cars are the perfect example of a shady used car dealer, they sell crap, and take zero responsibility, avoid at all cost!
