On one of our rare family lunches up north, my sister invited us to Eighteen Bistro. She knew the owner, and apparently, also the waiters there. One of their many cocktail drinks was named after her, she claims.
To state the obvious, the place was quite small, it can sit no more than 18 people (is that the reason behind the name?), which can be good or bad, depending if you want your experience to be intimate or not. Because if like me, you can't speak in hush tones, the other table will surely hear you. Anyway, here's my review:
Cons:
They were short on some ingredients. We wanted to order more of their pork and beef dishes , but the waiter informed us that they ran out of meat since they had a full house the night before. We still had one order of each though.
Their kitchen is upstairs but the smoke travels to the dining area so it stung my eyes a little. Not good if you have sensitive eyes or kids with you.
Pros:
Their food was great! The quality of the food really made up for their limited menu. Their soups were superb and I really loved their Spicy Portobello and cream cheese pasta. Their beef bourguignon was a little too strong in my opinion, but their roasted pork belly was delightful.
There's a good macarons shop just beside the restaurant but Eighteen Bistro also serve delectable and inventive desserts. We loved their warm chocolate cake, and coffee addicts should order the Snowpresso. It's coffee and dessert in one.
I'd say the pros outweigh the cons on this one. read more
