TRAVELERS BEWARE.
Service was abhorrible. Our waitress was outwardly rude and condescending. You can try Eichbaum beer at any other restaurant in Mannheim if it is the beer you are curious about.
The atmosphere and food presentation is a lot like a Denny's one would find in any city in America. See the pictures.
It was Thursday, so every customer there was ordering XXL schnitzel, including me. We put our order in for food. THEN 4 tables around us were seated, and put their orders in about 10 minutes after we did. They all had their food, and we were still waiting (they had all ordered schnitzel too). I was trying to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, that there was a mix up in the kitchen, but my friends had a good point: They all ordered the same thing as we did, so perhaps the waitress was just bringing out the schnitzels to all the other tables on purpose?
We found a young, kind, male food runner and asked him what was up. He said that he would look into it. He seemed frazzled by how his co-workers, including our brooding waitress, were treating him. He came back several times to let us know that the waitress would bring our food soon. Of course she did not. We ordered more beers from her (politely I might add) but they did not come unless we asked the young man.
Also, Eichbaum does not take US credit cards. So if you don't have cash and want to pay with your credit card, prepare to deal with some confrontation and or awkwardness. Not something that is common here in a normally friendly, hospitable culture. read more
