This cafe was full but we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and efficient. Though my German is not great, the server was patient and we met in the middle as he spoke some English. To my delight, they were able to seat me right away on their gorgeous outdoor patio. I was a little confused at first but soon realized that you actually go inside to place your order and then they bring the food out to you. I ordered a glass of white wine and the shrimp salad. The wine was delicious and perfectly complimented the salad. The salad was good. It was a little small so I wish I had ordered something else because it didn't satisfy my hunger but it was super tasty! I loved the gorgeous views provided on the patio. Everything was just so nice. The staff were great. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Trier!

The schnitzel, while served as two pieces versus one giant piece, was decently (but not perfectly) executed. Crispy, somewhat tender meat (could have been more tender) and a very flavorful sauce with fresh mushrooms. The spätzle was soft and buttery. Almost melted in my mouth. Can't go wrong with a nice Pilsner to wash it all down.

The food was excellent, including well prepared game specialties which I can't find at home. However what really made my group happy was the wine tasting flights. My group liked sweeter wines, so the owners' son put together a custom flight for us and gave us an overview of the different types of wines grown in the region. They even sell bottles at reasonable prices of you like the wine. Whether you're visiting from a foreign country as we were, or just another part of Germany, I recommend you stop in here for a great evening.

If you can and the weather allows it, dine in their outdoor area: it's lovely, has separated areas and is also protected from the neighbouring streets. Cuisine consists of different options: some more traditional plates (like schnitzel, potatoes and wurstel) but also some variation (fish, fish soup, octopus, pasta...). Overall the plates were delicious. One thing we all noticed, and that perhaps is of great value to know for customers, is that their steaks tend to be well done, even the ones they consider to be rare or, as they say "Englisch". The steak in itself tasted really good, but definitely not rare (I don't have a picture).
