Located in a laneway is this chic eatery with lounge music, dim lights and an interesting menu. If you're dining single, sit at the bar and chat to the friendly barista who will ensure your coffee is extra hot and chocolatey for a skim mocha. They use peoples coffee and it is quite strong. I could taste its acidity in my creamy chocolatey smooth mocha. While you're sipping coffee, you may hear the barista shout our coffee art a couple of times. I don't know why. Someone else must be doing the art while he does the pouring. The barista is also your host and will offer you the option of outdoor, bar or small square table seating. It is quite narrow and cosy inside so perhaps a good venue for first dates. :) On the counter you will find doughnuts, cheese scones, and some delicious looking lemon polenta cake. I had a mocha and scrambled eggs on toast. The toast comes buttered and you only get a single slice. The scrambled eggs are the best I've ever had. Creamy, well salted and just bursting with flavour. Sublime! Coffee took a while to arrive. Will definitely go back for the friendly service, vibe, eggs, and coffee!

We ordered the fruit crepe which was absolutely beautiful with whipped cream. The crepe was beautifully cooked with a slight crisp on the edges, and the fruit (strawberries, kiwis and bananas) were all served fresh alongside whipped cream. For our savory dish, we ordered the mixed platter with in house smoked salmon, green lipped mussels, fries and mesclun salad which we devoured in under 5 minutes. All in all, this meal was the highlight of our day in Wellington and we'd happily come back if given the chance. BONUS: Free WiFi

This is the new Brittany who has speared a spot on the block, since my last visit to Welly!…read more A great new cafe in down-town Welly. The service isn't all that fast but who cares, the staff are friendly and passionate enough about French regional cuisine to make up for it! It was the perfect spot for a lunch-time catch up with my sis-in-law who works for Adventure Travel across the road! It wasn't easy making a decision, we couldn't decide if we wanted to embark on a quick escape to Burgundy via the Beef Bourguignon or take a trip to the French Alps via the Gratin Dauphinois! In the end, we settled for neither and opted for steaming, hot bowls of authentic French onion soup, most generously topped with the grilled, gooey goodness of Gruyere cheese! From there, we journeyed onto the Western point of Brittany via their famous galettes! With over seven options to choose from, the crepes definitely rule this place! Bonjour et bienvenue au Cafe Breton!
