They have a thrift shop where every dollar goes to save more animals. Please support them as much as you can! They are doing work that almost everyone wishes they could do. But it is a hard hard job! And sometimes even a thankless job.

There application process is one big Giant meme go check it out for your self…read more https://us10b.sheltermanager.com/service?account=rm2503&method=online_form_html&formid=21 They seem to treat there animals well although we became interested in one of there animals it took to long for them to process the application and do there mandatory home inspection which in my opinion is not a good thing for shelters to be doing in the first place. Then during the process while trying to get the dog we wanted they assume we were going to leave our dog out doors at all times.. Then they claim that Dog cages are not a source of punishment even though one of them works for the local county jail which was kinda ironic. Then they don't like E collars or Underground fence systems or really any sort of training equipment to assist in the survival of the animal seems to be forbidden or challenged in some way.. Was kinda interesting though we gave up on this place do to the weird atmosphere at the facility and the fact that they were not a kill shelter meant that we could easily give up on the dog we wanted knowing that it will hopefully be taken care of by another owner.. We did end up getting another animal one that was a couple of weeks away from being put down so I feel a bit better knowing that I rescued a dog from a County shelter verses the weird controlling shelter thing they got going on.. I am one of those dog owners that believe there is no bad dog.. I am a firm believer in training the animal with all tools necessary. Big time fan of Upstate Canine Academy and the training methods and tools you can find more info here: https://www.youtube.com/user/AmericasCanineED . At the end of the day if you find a dog like we did that you really want apply the worst thing they could do is say no or not even bother to show up or start the home inspection process just be prepared for this. Here is a pdf copy of there application process that they have https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yqXgxkxYjhv4zuNjGL_lza4-8EGAKhff/view?usp=sharing

My husband and I were looking for a Jack Russel Terror mix. I contacted the Wayne county animal shelter they had a dog I was looking for. They sent me a picture of a skinny Jack Russel Terror mix. I contacted them that We wanted to come to pick him up on Friday. This was on a Tuesday. I received a call on Thursday wanting to know if we were still coming to get the dog. If we were not coming he was going to be put down. I reassured her we were coming. I will never forget that day as long as I live. They had named this dog Pluto. When we walked into the office it was so dirty the smell would have knocked you down. The workers acted like they couldn't wait to get rid of this dog. We had to ask for his information on his shots. We wanted to know if his shots were updated. After looking through a pile of papers we finally had the papers we needed. We asked if he was chipped. They said No but I guess we can do it for you. When they went back to bring our dog out. He ran to me and put his paws over my shoulders. I wanted to cry you could feel every bone from his neck down. This dog had not been taken care of. We ask how long had he been at the shelter. They told us they found him running in the streets. They said they had him for a little over a month. This dog was so traumatized by someone. We brought him home only to find out he was sick. We took him to the vet. He did not have kettle cough or heartworm. We were to give him honey when he started coughing. Whatever our dog Rex had it came from that nasty humane place where we got him. It made us wonder how many other dogs were sick back in that room. If you really care what happens to the animals at Wayne County Animal shelter. SHUT THEM DOWN!!

The workers are some of the most HATEFUL people you could ever meet!!! They have gone to peoples houses and taken their animals off of their property and said they were "running loose"!! They have also tried to take someone to court for a misdemeanor for not getting the animal fixed when the animal was hit by a car after running out the door over a year ago and the president of the board told the person to just take the animal without even getting it microchipped because they just wanted it out of their way! They will do almost anything to get a penny out of whoever they can!!! They are also a "no kill shelter" but the president of the board herself said that they do kill animals they just sweep it under the rug so no one finds out. It is worth driving to another town if you are wanting to adopt an animal! The people at the Wayne County Humane Society do not have good intentions for this business!!! I feel sorry for all of the animals that are locked up in the humane society not being properly taken care of! I wouldn't even want a mouse the have to step foot in this place! Please adopt from another shelter and don't support this place!!!

The only difference in our applications was that we have children and the others do not (although they dog was listed as great with kids). We put in our application Saturday at Petco in Fairview, was told we were the first to do so for him, that they needed to verify our information though. Tuesday, I call and I am told by one of the volunteers to just come to the shelter (a 45 minute drive). I get there to be told they were reviewing other applicants and it would be 2-3 hours before we would know. Well, I knew we passed the application by that point, so we hung around town, waiting for the phone call to come get the dog. Instead I get "we found a better home then yours". Upon further questioning, it comes out that we have kids and they don't.... Then we are told by the head of the shelter that there are plenty of other dogs and to get over it. My hearts broken

I always see people putting in applications to adopt, but why am I seeing the same dogs? It's as if no one is good enough for them. As a potential adopter I brought my dog up to one of the dogs in a cage to smell, I was immediately told that I was doing a terrible thing and to back off. I asked the Petco manager for the lady's name from the adoption group and was told that Rachael (the Bond County rep) had many complaints about being rude. I will definitely not be going back for the Bond County adoption events, although I hope those dogs find good homes.
