    Go Lingo!

    Go Lingo!

I cannot more strongly urge you to avoid association with Go Lingo!. As a former teacher, I know…read morefirsthand what a waste of time and money this organization is. Yes, children benefit from learning a second language starting at a very young age, but Miriam Amittay, who runs Go Lingo! operates a disorganized and chaotic after school program, that can best be described as expensive babysitting. Because Ms. Amittay has no curriculum, no guidelines, and no plan for teachers, students, and parents, everyone receives different information and those who suffer most are the children. Parents enroll their children expecting top-notch language classes in an after school setting; in reality huge groups of kids are herded into corridors and teachers do their best to control the energy that kids bring after a full day of school. This, of course, could be changed by more coherent curriculum, better communication with teachers, allowing teachers access to plans outlined with parents, and a number of other simple steps. However, Ms. Amittay steadfastly refuses to improve her business practices and seems only to want to increase enrollment. I realize what I am saying could all come off as a diatribe from a former, disgruntled employee. So I'll say this: I left Go Lingo on good terms with Ms. Amittay, as I found another job. I gave her two weeks notice. I am writing this because it is only fair parents really know what they're signing their kids up for. If you want your kids to learn another language, hire a private tutor or enroll them in another immersion program. It is a shame that Arlington Public Schools decides to associate with such a low quality organization such as Go Lingo.

I totally disagree with the bad reviews. Miriam and Perla provide exactly the kind of program I…read morewas hoping for my children, (we are sending the kids again this coming year). The comment about disorganization is contrary to my experience, we decided to join several months late and Miriam made it easy for us to sign up the kids. It's a time to unwind, nicely structured (kids are always kept busy) with nice activities such as cooking, chopping apples for a crisp, pumpkin carving, and dancing, all while immersed in Spanish. They provide a quiet, kind and warm environment, exactly what is needed during the time of day when parents are still at work, but feeling guilty for not having the kids at home. The classes are led by experienced teachers who have been parents themselves, and exude a sense that they understand children.

They follow a consistent schedule, which has made coming to school a joy for him and has given me peace of mind as a parent going to work knowing he is in a safe, caring place.

It is impossible to say enough wonderful things about Waltham Childcare Center. For the past 5…read moreyears, I have seen nothing but a staff of loving caregivers and brilliant teachers who are genuinely invested in every child's growth and happiness. The classroom space is organized, positive and always stimulates and enriches their learning; from the interactive reading of CAPS where students got to practice balancing hats on their heads, to the excitement of playing in the 'big gym' at the Boys and Girls club and of course, the creative art projects that involve him painting his hands to make imprints or making homemade slime or experimenting with the fizzy properties of baking soda! The staff is always engaging with students, checking-in, and making them feel heard and seen. Waltham Childcare Center is also dedicated to preparing their students for Kindergarten. My son, who will be 5-years-old this October, has made tremendous gains in his social-emotional learning, counting, letter identification and speech. As a teacher myself, their curriculum and learning instruction are outstanding and I have no doubts that my son will enter Kindergarten hitting every benchmark and then some. In fact, they are often able visit the library which has enabled my son to develop a love for books. Waltham Childcare Center is a rare gem and I am so grateful that they have been able to provide an amazing childcare experience for both my children. I highly recommend them to any parent-you will not be disappointed and neither will your child.
