Great Indonesian takeaway with a big selection and friendly service…read more In the evening there is a line out the door. A good sign of things to come! Among the rice and noodles, I was surprised to see that they also offer lontong. I got the Nasi Rames menu (€7.70) which comes with white rice, three vegetable dishes, two meat types, and an egg. My choices were terong blado (eggplant and chilies), tumis kacang panjang (spicy tempe and greenbeans), oerap (salad of coconut and bean sprouts), and daging bali (Balinese style beef). I also asked for nasi kuning (rice cooked in coconut milk and turmeric) instead of white rice and the lady behind the counter was happy to substitute for a small fee which I don't remember but I was fine with the price. Everything was properly spicy, and they do warn you if you're faint of heart. The food tastes like it should, except I think the daging bali would be spicier in Bali. Delicious authentic Indonesian food! A plastic bag costs a few cents so be smart and bring your own or else carry the box in your hands. On your way out, you can also pick up a few essentials in their small grocery corner like fried anchovies or Kecap Manis. They also have some traditional cakes and fried snacks in the case by the entrance. Just don't expect to sit down here because there is only one table.

Interesting that it is served with mayo and not ketchup (but it is offered on the menu). Ketchup must be considered more of an American condiment here in Amsterdam. Fresh, hot and perfectly salted served in a paper cone with the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of mayo...not nearly enough, but that is if you like the taste of mayo on your fries and we did. We sat on the bench nearby and enjoyed our fries in the warm sun.

If you are staying in one of the larger hotels or in the Centrum, plan a trip over to Potgietersstraat 47 and check this place out. For our second meal I had the Dorado special, two large, tender pieces of fish with deliciously crispy skin on a bed of vegetables, while J had the quiche met prei spinazie talleggio en walnoten, a large, square section of pie that is so thick it looks like a slice of Sicilian-style pizza. We each had some celery-leek soup that was creamy and light and really hit the spot. For our third and final meal we split half orders of the wisselende ravioli van holy ravioli (5 good-sized raviolo in a thick bolognese-type sauce), lamsschouder met rozemarijnjus boer steven (a fantastically tender piece of lamb au jus on more root vegetables), and the pork belly special (a large piece on a bed of root vegetables, mushrooms, and asparagus). Dessert was the lemon tart I had been eyeing for a couple of days. Portions were very generous and plenty of food for the two of us to enjoy all the dishes without feeling stuffed. We were a very happy, satisfied couple when we left. I'm just sorry our stay in Amsterdam wasn't longer. We would definitely work our way through the entire menu and all the specials. Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon Seoul Food, and we decided to give it a try. When we first walked in, it was difficult to ascertain if it's a mini store, a take away restaurant, and then discovered it's a little bit of everything. You place your order at the counter with the very rude women that are standing there chatting amongst themselves and who don't really care if they have customers or not. Don't ask them about the food, their opinions, or anything else because they will only begrudgingly respond. Once you order, you can find somewhere to sit. Seating is extremely limited, and you're more likely to share a space with others than to have your own space. While we were sitting waiting for our food, which by the way is not brought to the table your number is called and you have to return back to the counter to pick it up yourself, they do have an entire wall filled with tchotchkes and food items. Number called and we picked up our food and we needed to ask for napkins and cutlery, because none of that was provided. The food pretty much was bland to mediocre, and the dishes that we ordered that should've been hot, were barely room temperature. The eggs in the dishes we ordered were premade and cold. Poor form, poor food, poor quality. Just not good whatsoever. The wontons were very rubbery and we were not able to eat them. They were that bad. Suffice to say, when in Amsterdam avoid this place at all costs.
