Delicious, reasonably priced food. Outdoor seating overlooking the Maas. Prefect for a short weekend bike ride from Maastricht.

The Trafalgar Pub - Vegan Shepherd's Pie

This was one of the first suggestions to pop up when I looked for vegetarian options near me. A…read moreone-minute walk from my hotel? Don't mind if I do! Beyond the ultra-convenient location, this pub offers warm hospitality, an extensive drink menu (including zero-proof beers for your N/A pub pleasure), and good prices. It was easy to find vegan and vegetarian options. I was torn between the veggie burger and the vegan shepherds pie, until a shepherd's pie went by on its way to another table, and I was sold. The vegan shepherd's pie is a hearty dish but is not heavy. Made with the classic savory pie veggies (carrots, peas, and onions), this pie is full of flavor. Lentils stand in for the lamb, and there's a bit of tanginess (from something tomatoey, I think). A neutral, pure-white layer of starchy goodness helps ensure that you're able to get every last bit of flavor, and a layer of toasted vegan cheese adds crunch. It was super-satisfying, and I was sad that I couldn't finish it (like I said, generous portions--don't eat a late lunch!). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The best deal in Eindhoven!…read more Big portions of good tasting food at a decent price. That is pretty much impossible to come by in Holland except for here. This place is popular among students as well as interns at Phillips. Some others and I had a dinner event that we need to hold and decided to have the event here. We were glad we did because they were quite accommodating to our big group of 40 people and it worked out pretty well. I love their green beans. They have 2 (or 3 now) vegetarian options which are both very good, tasty, and filling. I will miss this place! The only warning is that it can get really crowded on Friday and Saturday nights.

A better brewery visit is hard to find…read more From initial french like confusion about payment for beer, visit and other stuff the tour starts off with a typical belgian guy pouring young lambic in a very unconventional way into our glasses. In broken french and broken english our guide tells us the history of geuze and the brewery while we taste our samples. Beer buffs ask advanced beer questions, non-sour beer lovers look terrified tasting the beer. Very promising... The tour continues, walking through the miniscule set up for brewing the belgian treasure Geuze, and the tour continues, and continues... Well, after a very long, cold and interesting tour, focussing on really interesting andecdotes, funny technical aspect of barrel making, mold, bacteria, yeast and the price of italian made storage tanks, we end up in the tasting room again. The belgian guide pours us beer after beer and we rejoice, stuffed with knowledge and sour beer. Since most of the other visitors have left we end up with the guide telling us even more stories . He also tells us that he actually don't work at the place, he is a volunteer that has devoted his life to the history of belgian beer, lambic and geuze, and is responsible for the part of the brewery that is a museum. Respect! Best spent EUR 9 ever.
