I have made a couple visits recently, buying grips for my current clubs and looking to update to a new set of irons. I was made to feel very welcome and did not feel the least bit judged by them regarding my extremely amateur game; partially due to a long layoff with back issues.
Ty (sp?) was very accommodating and asked several questions about what my current shots were like and where I thought I might feel the most help was needed. We discussed the pros and cons of many of the newer product lines; with special emphasis on game-improvement clubs. He also showed me some demo sets they had for sale that would be appropriate for me. It was very refreshing to not feel pressured to best the newest, most expensive toy in the house!
After a weekend out of town, I returned to talk to Ty and was honest about having found a promising set of new clubs at a significant savings, but I was unsure about moving into graphite-shafted irons; as I had never hit any. He took the time to work with me at the launch monitor and let me try both the steel and graphite shafts in the heads I am looking to buy. The numbers we discussed confirmed that the graphite's would be a great fit for me now and we then discussed a plan to gap out the rest of my set with hybrids.
He did not seem bothered by my purchasing the less expensive set from a third party which, to be honest, quite impressed me. Guess where my remaining clubs will be coming from!!! I cannot recommend the folks at Edwin Watts (Ridgeland) highly enough. No matter what level of play you are capable of, I recommend that you be upfront and honest with them and you will find a great support group to help you improve your game.
