Horrible, horrible experience with Allstate and Greg Barquero. On Sunday, January 15 of 2023,…read moreduring our torrential rains (Governor Newsom had declared a state of emergency), we discovered the back wall of our apartment's closet was very wet and full of black mold. We immediately texted our apartment manager who told us to get out and move into a hotel. The following morning which was Monday January16th, 2023, we called Allstate and Greg told us to keep all our expense receipts including hotel and food and any other expenses related to this situation. He said not to worry, that we were covered and we had a covered loss. On February 8th when we spoke with Greg again, he once more told us not to worry, we had a covered loss and to keep all our receipts. Based on Greg's knowledge and expertise, we followed his advice. Allstate recommended a textile specialist company, CRDN, that would take all our clothes and have them treated (since there was mold on quite a few pieces) and they would pay the bill to have this done. They came and picked up the clothes on Friday, January 27th. On Feb 22nd, we received a notice from Allstate that this was NOT a covered loss and that they would NOT cover any of our expenses. We received a cleaning bill from CRDN for $3981.90. They would not release the clothes until that was invoice was paid even though the invoice was made out to Allstate. Our part of the stay at the hotel (which our landlord would not cover since by law, he only had to pay for 1 month) totaled $3,024.00 It took over 6 weeks to have the apartment remediated since it tested positive for asbestos as well as mold. Being a long-term client of Allstate, we thought they would stand behind their word and "do the right thing." Apparently, that phrase did not apply to us. We were traumatized for many, many months after this horrible debacle.

They are nice people, offer fair prices and good advice. But, in my experience, they don't have…read moregood systems in place and, as a result, they make mistakes. My wife and I recently purchased a home. Greg from the Lazar Agency sold us a home insurance policy from Pacific Specialty. However, the Lazar Agency made a mistake on the payment instructions they sent to our title company. They told the title company to make the check out to Bamboo Insurance. When the Lazar Agency got the check from the title company, they forwarded it on to Bamboo without checking their records. A few months later, Pacific Specialty canceled our home insurance policy for non-payment. To his credit, Greg reached out to me by phone as soon as the policy was canceled and got a replacement policy with American Modern in place immediately. However, throughout the process, Greg insisted that the title company was at fault. That was clearly not the case. The title company was able to provide all the original emails showing that the Lazar Agency sent them the wrong instructions. Furthermore, the Lazar Agency was the one who forwarded the check to the wrong insurance company. I was told that the Lazar agency does not keep any record of the checks they receive. And they do not verify the payment details before forwarding checks to insurance companies. Once this mess was resolved, I moved my insurance business to another agency. I asked the Lazar agency to cancel my existing policies. Again, they dropped the ball. After hearing nothing for a few weeks, I reached out to confirm that my policies had been canceled. I was assured that all my policies were closed. That turned out to be wrong. The Lazar Agency had canceled my auto insurance but hadn't done anything with my home insurance policy, despite asking me to send them a signed cancelation request. After several weeks of waiting for my refund, I followed up directly with American Modern and canceled the policy myself. What a mess.
