A Procrastinator's Confession - I had not filed my taxes in the last 4 years out of fear of the complexity (multiple missing W-2s and a bevy of 1099s) and the fear that I would owe several thousand dollars. After the state levied my bank account on three occasions (the state will clean out your savings/checking if they feel you owe them and BofA charges a fee of $100 each occasion to facilitate the auto-debit) suffice it to say... They finally got my attention. Enter Edwin. I found Edwin through Yelp after being humiliated by H and R Block and after a brief and free phone consultation we met. Very striking, punctual and professional his attention to detail kept my paperwork organized and more importantly kept me on task. Within a few days he had all 4 years completed and ready to sign. I worried extensibly for 36+ months over a problem that had I just outsourced, I could have focused my energies on my business. Bottom line is... You want someone like Edwin because you will be confident he will get the job completed quickly and accurately. As a result of his skill... I received a state refund check, which offset the funds they "procured" and covered much of his fee. Your mileage may vary. I've utilized the services of; CPAs, H and R Block and Certified tax preparers and he is, in my opinion, better than all of them. Hands down. Piece of advice fellow Yelpers. I called at 10am and asked if I could make an appointment thinking it would be for later on in the week, but to my surprise he was able to see me at 1pm the same day! I had actually made another appointment with someone else, but decided to stick with Edwin because he sounded much more personable over the phone, and even more so in person. Edwin has an open and hectic schedule this time of year for obvious reasons. Even as many industrial workers move to-and-fro throughout this area it's hard to get into an office with someone certified to process your paperwork and file the refunds. I waited 2 weeks longer for other preparers and never heard back from one even as I tried to negotiate which paperwork was required to make the decision to "shop" with this other business. I must say that the feature of booking your own time slot on his site is a most refreshing deal, as it puts you in control of your time. Since you're the one giving THEM (in this case Edwin) the business it SHOULD be on YOUR time. Thankfully, I was able to send a quick email for a less than 24 hour meetup and there I was in the office for 30 minutes with a good picture of what I owed and what I was getting. If you have a pretty open and simple sets of taxes then go with this young and up-and-coming firm. Even if you don't have simplicity then challenge them to do the best for you because the smaller firms often are above and beyond reproach for quality and assurance (its in their best interest to put food on the table!). I give a 4 Star rating because it's an A-OK firm. Its a good place to get your work done and get your money in a timely and effective manner. He's friendly and open to explain the stuff you may or may not know about. . . A five star firm is hard to find, but a 4 is a solid rating, especially for smaller businesses. read more

Shirma Corella did excellent in helping to file my taxes for me. This is my first time doing the 1099 form and everything went just fine. I am the type who is impatient and wants things done asap but I can say this for a fact that they DO take pride in what they do and do their best to deliver quality service. Last week I needed some quick help with my taxes. I had some recommendations from friends but, as I usually do, I took to yelp instead. I found Edwin Does Taxes had plenty of reviews and so I decided to check it out. I called and was able to book a same day appointment. I arrived on time and came right in. He's a good guy, but more importantly, he is knowledgeable, a definite requisite from an accountant. I've been to a few other places and I've felt rushed, but that wasn't the case here. He took his time with me, answered my questions, filed my taxes and even helped relieve some stress I have with the IRS. I definitely recommend you give Edwin a chance to be your accountant. Needed a new tax prep person since last time a rep at Jackson Hewitt screwed us on our taxes by making up numbers causing us to be audited by the IRS...my husband found Edwin Does Taxes on yelp and we took a chance. So glad we did...Edwin was flexible on his schedule in arranging a time after work to meet. The process wasn't rushed at all, he took his time to go over every detail (which I appreciated as a perfectionist). In person, Edwin is also very personable which made the time we spent there fly by. In addition, he gave us a great price to file as new customers and waived a couple of fees. We own a home and had a few medical/charity deductions and even with all that, he only charged my husband and I (filing jointly) around $150; it doesn't get any better than that!!!!!!!!!!!! After we did an E-File approx Jan 26th, we received the Fed return on Feb 17th and State Feb 18th. My only suggestion would be to be organized, bring as many documents as possible to help you file the best return and remember that your tax preparer will do his best to get you as many deductions as you qualify for based on the info you bring (that is within legal boundaries) and that he's not a mind reader and cannot/should not add something on your taxes unless you have back-up documentation. read more

I wish I could give a 6th star, Edwin truly deserves it. It was refreshing to finally get great customer service. You cannot understate how valuable that is, and it's something you buy on reviews. This year I was in the market for a new tax person, Jackson Hewitt had to go. I went on yelp and saw many many places nearby that had 4 and 5 star reviews, but those reviews all seemed pretty fake by my opinion. Those places also only had 4 or 5 reviews so I kept looking. Edwin does taxes had 100 reviews and every client had nothing but glowing reviews. The search was over so off I went and made a same day appointment online, they even had late openings at 7,8, and 9. My wife and I went with a 5 pm opening. We were running a little bit behind so I called to let them know and Edwin said it wasn't a problem. Once we walked in Edwin immediately helped us out. From there the process was smooth and fun, which is not something you would typically associate with doing taxes. Edwin was down to earth, calm, and most importantly helpful with our situation. He gave us examples of what our return would look with both examples. All in all it was truly a great experience, one we will be happy to repeat next year and the year after that. Awesome experience! I was previously doing my own tax return and even tried going through all the major tax companies (turbo tax, H and R, etc.), but I wasn't satisfied with the long waits and $100+ fees. I was referred to Edwin by a friend and decided to give him a call. I work Monday - Friday, 9-6p, but he was very flexible with his schedule and I was able to set up a meeting very quickly. Upon meeting him, I knew he was well versed in tax preparation. He was very professional and explained the different things I could report on my return. Edwin assisted in filing my 2016 taxes. Sadly, I left underwhelmed and feeling like Edwin did not try to maximize my tax return. Perhaps, he doesn't tailor his services to my demographic; I am a full-time college student (that also works full time) with no dependents or property (I knew my return wasn't going to be large). However, again, I felt like Edwin didn't try to maximize my return amount as he was noticeably hesitant about using the Education Opportunity Credit (which I am eligible for) and didn't explore credits I could have been eligible for...
