Tottenham Green Leisure Centre is quite large, holding classes of all types, wet and dry…read more Travelling here is easy by bus, as there is a bus depot a few minutes walk away from it, and it is within walking distance from Seven Sisters tube. The car park is cheap, and small. I n recent years, I have only ever used the modern gym that they have, with sauna and steam room, and the swimming pool. They really do cater for everyone as on Saturday afternoons, they have a fun and waves session in the pool, where you will find kids galore having a great time. There is a small water shoot for the kids too, so they love it. For the adults, they have Aerobics classes, and also have a separate pool for diving, where the floor gets deeper by the touch of a button. As for facilities, they have squash, table tennis, badminton and basketball and I must be forgetting something. They have a fitness hall for all classes, where they have Martial Art, keep fit etc. It is a well kept fitness centre. They do have a membership which is definitely cheaper than most, and also allows you to use other facilities in the Harringay Borough. I haven't been for a long while, I drove past it a couple of days ago and said what I usually say, 'Oh yeah, I got to renew my membership'. Oh yes, one of those thing which I forgot to add, is that they also have a library, you see, they really do cater for everybody!

Tottenham Green Leisure Centre to my mind has been a pretty poor option for serious swimmers over…read morethe years. There only ever seemed to be 1 lane available for non-casual swimmers i.e. people who actually want to swim for fitness gain, as opposed to kids who want to splash each other, shout, and generally annoy the people who have paid the full cost to get into the pool. A little anecdote that I should relate regarding the pool. A friend was was warned by another swimmer to be careful to check all their clothing and bags when leaving the pool. The problem is not as one might immediately think, of light fingered scallywags helping themselves to the personal property of others, although I am sure that may go on. The issue is that the pool changing rooms are infested with cockroaches that, if you are unlucky, will attach themselves to your person. At some point of course they will decamp, possibly to infest your home or workplace. So having learnt this I have decided not to start visiting the pool again. A shame as I pay a ton of council tax, as do others in the borough. Shame on the management of the centre, who collect their secure salaries every month, whilst accruing index-linked pension benefits for a comfortable retirement, yet are not bothered enough to deal with what is very likely a fairly easily solved pest control problem. Shame on them, sack them all.

This place is only busy because there are so few other options in the area. Unfortunately, the…read morebusiness makes the management arrogant and they offer zero customer service. If they bother to get back to you about any concern you might have about the facilities they will be completely inflexible and unhelpful. They know if you leave they have plenty of other users with little to no other choices. The recent refurbishment has been badly managed with a much smaller choice of equipment spread over 4 floors in 6 different spaces! Even at off-peak times there are queues for equipment because much of it does not even work. Complaints fall on deaf ears and management will not even entertain reducing fees due to the reduction in services. Their only suggestion they can offer is to cancel! They really do not care about the community or their members despite the headlines on their website.

This is a great place to come swimming. After a ridiculous saga, it was finally reopened a couple…read moreof years ago and it is this relative newness that makes it so shiny and nice. You don't worry about verrucas and kids weeing in the pool here, unlike at North London's other, older and therefore grimier public pools. I like to come early on a Saturday morning (provided I haven't been out too heavily the night before) as it's usually pretty quiet and you can get a good pace in the fast lane without hitting too many people's heels. The changing rooms are also big and clean although my favourite thing about the pool is that it's near enough to my house that I can stroll home for a post-swim shower.

As part of my regime to have a washboard stomach by summer 2012 I decided to try and suppress my…read moreick-reflex and give the local pool a try. I always enjoyed swimming as a kid and it's supposed to be fabulous for toning up so thought it'd be a great first stop on the road to my bikini body. Now, this is a tiny little pool run by Enfield Council and their site reliably informed me that 6:30am - 8:30am during the week was 'Adult Swim' time. In keeping with my 'healthy mind, healthy body' attitude I decided 6:30am would be a reasonable hour to swim on a Monday morning and I was right. It was me and a handful of 'older' ladies and gents. This is a nice way of me saying it was me and the OAPs. Not to be outdone by their age and disorientation I actually was confused the moment I walked in as I had taken my specs off in the changing room (obviously) and could barely see where there was space to swim. The lifeguard told me to go in the lane at the end which turned out was the fast lane...she clearly had higher expectations of my swimming ability than I! It's a relatively clean pool and I was glad to be allowed to wear flip-flops to leave by the side - helped to deter me from getting the 'icks'. I didn't see anything gross like floating plasters either, which is always a plus! How those old people managed to swim and gossip incessantly at that hour is beyond me but I felt awake and refreshed when I climbed out of the pool after a half hour or so of swimming, and knew an awful lot about Mavis, her daughter who was supposed to call and how her dodgy hip was doing. The changing facilities certainly need a bit of work. There was just one giant changing room with no working lock on it and most of the ladies had left their belongings in there, most probably Mavis and her crew. I opted to use a toilet cubicle which was grim but where else was I supposed to change? All in all a handy little pool in a handy location and considering it's open early-doors I'll definitely be popping by again soon - for £4 a swim you can't really expect much more!

Aspects that definitely need improvement in Arnos pool: hygiene, changing rooms and reception. I'm not planning to return any time soon. You pay the same amount and southgate is so so much better. Also, in Arnos the lockers don't return the coins and we have to pay extra if wanting to use the hair dryer, or hand dryer as it is. Very difficult to park. Will only return after a good refurbishment.
