We enjoyed our Friday evening paddle with Edmonton Canoe. Our bus driver was over half an hour late (not the end of the world) and although we were given a short safety talk, it would have been nice to have been shown a few basic strokes. We saw a few people in the river that did not even know how to hold a paddle and looked like they were really struggling. Everyone in our group agreed that the price was a bit dear for the experience. Might end up buying our own kayaks or canoe and shuttling ourselves. If you're brand new to the sport and want to try it out, they do outfit you with everything you need. Overall we had a nice evening, but nothing to write home about. read more

I had a blast on the half day trip with Edmonton Canoe! What a great way to spend a hot day in the city! We were picked up at Caplino park at 2pm and taken to Emily Murphy Park where we launched off in the canoe. We were given everything we needed for the trip including canoe (duh), paddles (duh again), PDFs and even a little water tight storage container for our cell phones. We booked the sunday half day trip (total of $80) and it took us about 1.5 to do our entire canoe. The full day is about 5 hours and its $100 but you have to be ready to rock at 9am. My only complaint was that we went with a large group so we felt we had to keep up with the group even though there were a few times we wanted to float, or stop on the shore and hang out - it would have been nice to be able to go at our own pace read more

We originally booked with Edmonton Canoe for a weeknight kayak trip from Emily Murphy Park to Capilano Park end of August. We have been rescheduled 4 times. 1. The river was too high. Not their fault at all, and they emailed us the morning of the trip to let us know. We rescheduled for the following week. 2. This time the boat launch was closed due to silt. Again, not their fault, HOWEVER they did not bother to let us know beforehand and we drove all the way to Capilano (for the shuttle) in rush hour traffic to be told it was not happening. If you run a business that's based on your ability to put canoes and kayaks into the river, you would think you would head over there to check everything out before you had 20 people show up for a trip. Not cool. 3. We rescheduled for today, Tuesday Sept. 6. Someone called me on Sunday to ask if we would mind changing our trip to Wednesday the 7th instead, because we were the only people booked on Tuesday. Wednesday didn't work for us, I work evenings, and neither did any other day for the rest of September as I am going for a tattoo removal on Saturday and won't be able to wear proper footwear. So she told me that's fine, we will still go Tuesday, just the two of you. 4. This morning I emailed them to ask if we were still going tonight. I soon after got a voicemail saying no, sorry, your trip is cancelled and we will refund your money. No explanation why (though I can assume it's because they don't want to come out just for two people). We were really looking forward to doing this, but I just can't see myself dealing with this company again. It was a series of unfortunate events and cancellations, but I think they could have handled it much more professionally and we paid for this 3 weeks ago. I took the full-day Devon to Edmonton canoe trip down the North Saskatchewan River through Edmonton Canoe. It is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday, a very unique and fun date idea. It is $100 for 2 people which includes a shuttle to Devon and equipment rental. You meet at 9am at Emily Murphy Park, whereby you get a brief info session about what to expect with the paddle, things to look out for, good places you can stop for lunch, etc. Then you're shuttled to Devon (45 minute drive). When you get off, there is a set of outhouses you can use, and the canoes are already loaded at the docks for you. Rentals include the canoe (they also have limited kayaks available too), lifejackets, paddles, a small dry bag for your electronics, a small container to bail out water, and a safety whistle. The trip is not guided, and it includes the rental for as long as you need to complete the paddle. If we wanted to take our sweet time, we could have it out until night time (even though most people take 5-6 hours at a leisurely but constant paddle). We wanted to take our sweet time, fell behind the main group quickly, and it wasn't a problem that we weren't together (unlike the previous review suggested). The paddle is pretty easy and gentle. There is no way to take a wrong turn, and they give a map (albeit an outdated one) so you can track where you are going. It is geared for beginners, but they don't give any formal instruction. The main coordinator was available for any questions, including paddling technique, though. You paddle back to Emily Murphy where you get off and your car is waiting for you! Remember to bring: Food and water/drinks (there is a golf course on the way that sells drinks in the clubhouse where you can also use a real toilet), sunglasses/hat/sunscreen, layers of clothing, OH, and toilet paper, hand sanitizer and a garbage bag in case you need to pop a squat (we almost forgot!). From start to finish, this was an excellent experience. Booking was easy, pick up location was very easy to find, especially when a sign is right outside the pick up van in the parking lot. We have canoed with this company a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Whether you are on a date or travelling with a family, this is a great experience. Kids? No problem! They add a middle seat to the canoe and off you go. You can paddle slowly, quickly or just float along the beautiful river. When it is time to get off the boat, they are there waiting for you. They provide everything you need and even include an emergency whistle that you get to keep, as well as a dry sack for your cell phone. read more
