I have been with this company for over 25 years. Always very pleased with the services. Lately I have been disagreeing with billing for an invoice that Tricare should pay. Apparently and according with Tricare the billing department need to submit a form for Tricare to approve the payment and they have not submitted. It's been few months trying to find a solution. I went to the office today and hopefully this will be fix. I still gave them four star because these people has been very good to my family and I don't think is fair to give them less just for one disagreement. I will update this review.

She was ok but I didn't like the changes and the person who helped with frames etc was pushy. So I decided to find a new optometrist. I chose one I was recommended to and who took my insurance. I called Dr. Pegram's office to set up an appointment. Everything went well. The day of the appointment I was warmly greeted which was nice. The assistant took me to the room to do the tests then into the actual exam room. I was introduced to Dr. OHara. What an amazing personality. She and I chit chatted about my eye history. She showed me the images of my floaters and explained how my eyes were slightly enlarged which indicates early cataracts. So she explained she would like me to come back in 6 months to have my eyes measured and then we would come up with a plan. She was just a joy. Then I met the technician who helped pick out frames. She was also amazing. She pulled out 6 sets of frames. I loved 5 pairs and the 6th wasn't too bad either. So I asked her to chose which she thought would be best. She took care of the paperwork and explained everything. These new frames and the lenses were half the cost I paid at the other group. I feel so much better with this group. I highly recommend them.

Currently I come at least once a year because I am required to have an annual Plaquenil exam by my Rheumatologist. I've never had long waits. There are waiting rooms in the examination room section of the office specific to each doctor. You sometimes have relatively short waits for additional tests administered by a different technician. There is also a short wait for the dilation eye drops to take full effect. But I can assure you that this is the "Cadillac Practice" for those needing specialized care. If you have an eye trauma they will find an immediate appointment for you, even if it's at another of their offices. Dr. Newsom did both my eyelid & cataract surgeries. The cataract surgery was a miracle. Needing astigmatism lens, he told me I would have to choose between far or near vision. The first eye was done with a distance lens. I was shocked when I stopped afterwards for brunch & could read the menu without glasses. I could actually see all distances. Having been extremely nearsighted, I've been wearing glasses or contact lens since I was a child. At my recheck the morning after the first surgery I told Dr. Newsom about being able to see all distances. He asked if I had ever worn one far & one near contact lens, which I had. He responded that we wouldn't even have to do the other eye unless I wanted sharper vision. If that was my choice he would do the other eye with a near lens. That was my choice. Being able to see all distances without glasses has changed my life. Driving, reading, piano music, television, computers....... It's all great with no glasses. Every year at my Plaquenil appointment I offer to kiss his feet. Once I asked why everyone's cataract surgery wasn't done this way. His response was that your brain adjusts & not everyone's can. My friend sees Dr. Pavilack, who she absolutely loves. He found a terrible problem created by a botched cataract surgery at a different practice. I'm here today to drive her home because of the difficulty in seeing with dilated eyes. She had to wait no longer than 5 -10 minutes. The office is large, clean, nicely decorated & has plentiful parking at its Republic Road location, which runs between First Colonial & Laskin Roads. If you want quality, caring eye care this is certainly the practice to choose.

Today I reported at 09:35 for a 09:50 appointment and finally saw the doctor at 11:40. During this two-hour period, I spent 3 minutes getting checked in and checking acuity and pressures. I spent another 3 minutes getting eye photos and an hour and a half waiting. This is typical for that office. When questioning the delay, much of the staff was flip, unconcerned, and/or clearly annoyed. My vision prevents me from driving so I must impose upon others for transportation, and those kind people are also adversely impacted. I see other aged patients with canes, wheelchairs, and creeping at a snail's pace and see the discomfort on their faces as they wait and wait and wait and wait. It is sad. I hear the sarcastic comments of other patients as they wait and wait. When I discussed this with Dr, Rappaport, he told me that the staff is supposed to give regular status on the wait times but I have never heard jack. Never a status, never an explanation, and God forbid, never an apology. Such a status report would at least allow the opportunity to get a refreshment or reschedule in extreme cases. Had I treated ANY of my customers with such rudeness in my business dealings I would surely be unemployed and bankrupt. This is shameful. I have witnessed other specialists resolve this situation. It COULD be fixed, but as long as the money keeps flowing in, nobody seems interested respecting very people that who are responsible for the Tidewater Eye Center existence.
