After a very reasonable quote, we scheduled the installation of a few days later. Scott was right on time with his crew. They kept me updated on any issues and progress made. The result was better then I expected. The crew was clean, prepared , and went above and beyond my expectations to make sure we were happy with the results. One thing I liked was that even after the job was done, the owner followed up a few days later to make sure everything was still to our liking. I would recommend Powell Constructions to people who need general contracting work done at a fair price. We will definitely be using them again in the near future.

This business has been in existence for many years. I went there and looked for the carpet and…read morevinyl for my home. I asked for separate written estimates, which I did get through Gmail. I then scheduled the installation for the carpet on Monday, August 3, 2020. The vinyl scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Monday morning came and I called and mentioned that all people entering my home must wear masks over both the nose and mouth and sanitize their hands. All of the various workers have been doing this. The response was that they might be late in getting here as they would have to come back to the office for masks as they might not have any in the truck. I said, Fine." So they came to the door without masks and I told them that they needed masks. And was told that they knew that. So they did finally put on the masks. Carpet installed fine. That evening around 6 pm I received a call from the same company asking about the installation and I said that it had gone just fine. The person on the phone, then proceeded to tell me that they only had one person to install the sheep vinly and that cutting was an art form. That they did not have anyone else available. That this person could not wear a mask while he cut or installed as it was difficult to breathe. She also informed me that he had been sick and was still not feeling well. That his glasses fogged up when he wore the mask. I said, well my glasses fog up and he needs to wear a mask. She said that I need to decide if i wanted the vinyl installed. I told not if he doesn't wear a mask. She got pretty upset. I said , " do you not have any one else you could call? You knew the schedule? can you call around to Menard's or Lowe's or other floor installation places? She said they do not work with people they do not know That it was up to me if i want the vinyl laid. I said it was a pandemic. She said , 'then wait till the pandemic is over." She said he was elderly, 60. I said, " i am older." She said well he is not sitting in a chair but has to work." I then cancelled the installation and told her to refund the part of the downpayment I gave her, and someone would be picking up the vinyl as it was already paid for. That is another run around, but I finally got that all straigtend out. When you go to their place of business there is a sign that states you must wear a mask before entering. I have a picture.

The scope of the work included the removal of the existing concrete drive and replacement with 4"…read morenew concrete. Work was completed in June of 2021. In September 2021, before the first freeze, I filled all of the control joints with a high quality polyurethane sealant (caulk). This was done at the first signs of cracks appearing in the joints. In early October 2022, one section of the drive separated at the control joint and broke away from the drive. Contractor placed the blame on Indiana weather with freezing and contracting causing the damage. This was only after 16 months and exposure to one winter season. Since the sealant should have prevented any moisture into the cracks of the joints, freezing should not have made an impact to the structural integrity. Concrete work is only guaranteed for 12 months. Conclusion: Poor workmanship and/or materials was the likely cause of the problem. I will need to engage a more qualified contractor to repair the current damage. I would not recommend this contractor.
