Great family resort -…read more My family started staying here in 1940. We have seen a lot of changes - all good. 6 generations of memories. Lakeside cabins are traditional cabins filled with up north charm. The lake shore has a great beach for kids and a large dock for adults to sit and talk, enjoy the sun and be able to keep an eye on the kiddos. Boat rental is available or bring your own boat. The Rave and swim raft are great additions to swim out to and get away from others on the main dock. Paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks and a canoe are also available to resort guests. A play ground, game room and a small general store round out the resort amenities. We wouldn't stay any where else.

They are in the process of modernizing the reservation and data entry systems as I write. They inherited a system that use paper and pencil to record purchases and a land line for reservations. The pool was not open as they are involved in intensive repairs. But the lake is right there to be enjoyed. Rental prices for canoes, pontoons, and paddle boats are reasonable. There is a boat slip also and lots of dock space. The store is extremely well stocked and prices are competitive. We had a hot dog roast... they had the buns and marshmallows that we forgot. The playground was better than most parks. Bathroom and shower clean and lots of warm water. My pup loved the dog wooded dog run. There is a dog wash station (warm water) that we used as our dog needed it after a romp in the beach The customer service was always with a smile and a thank you. We were not expecting such a great place or such wonderful people. Plan to be back next summer

Campground is dated for sure, but the kids loved it there the many times we went when the kids were growing up, so we decided to go back as teens after 2 or 3 years. Our last visit kids came back upset after getting yelled at on scooters, more aggressively than needed for sure! No slap on the wrist just a write up on our account. Flagged forever? Also had some BS write up on renting the pontoon, which we are experienced boaters, years later, we can't rent there from one incident of sitting on the edge of the boat? I assure you no crazy violations made of any kind. I would seriously consider another campground. Plenty of nice places so we will skip right over this place now.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kavanaugh's for a multitude of reasons! As a quick lakeside getaway…read morefrom the Twin Cities, a stay at Kavanaugh's is hard to beat! Here's why: The rooms/cabins: Our cabin was amazing. We stayed in a "cottage," which is a two-story, three bedroom cabin. There was a ton of space, including three full bathrooms, a huge kitchen and living room, a washer/dryer, and plenty of storage space. Everything was in in great condition, clean, and the kitchen was well-appointed. Our parking space was close by, and we were about 20 yards from the beach. The resort: TONS of stuff to do. There's a multitude of boating options, from free paddle boats to rental kayaks and fishing boats. The lake is warm enough to swim (and there's a small swimming beach - wish it was a bit bigger). Contrary to what some people said, we had no problem catching fish in the lake. There were toys down by the lake which our daughter LOVED playing with. The indoor and outdoor pool were both great, and the grounds were overall nice to walk around. Although we didn't use them, there's a really nice paved bike trail and bicycles for rent. The staff: super friendly and accomodating, they went the extra mile to make sure we had a great time. Rates: high in the height of summer (of course), but in late summer when we went (right after labour day), very reasonable. Location: just two hours from the Twin Cities, and super close to Target, Costco, and other stores...the perfect blend of nature and civilization. All in all, a great place to stay on a lake in Northern(ish) Minnesota!

We were right off a playground and a beach, so perfectly located for a family with young kids! The resort is family owned and much smaller than the surrounding resorts. I found this to be a good thing - it's quieter and low key! The house was fine - definitely an older building but it was functional - it had a full kitchen stocked with basics and an a/c unit. The rooms are smaller but we were easily able to fit a pack n' play in the biggest room. They do offer a mini crib for free as well. We took advantage of the fire pits one day to roast s'mores (they have several fire pits around), went swimming in both the indoor and outdoor pools & hot tub, and spent time in the lake. The property is located within 10-20min of many restaurants, activities for kids and adults (ie golf), and towns. Def recommend checking out Nisswa's downtown - it's super cute!! We plan to return next year!
