I checked out a couple other gyms before getting connected with EDGE and knew almost instantly that it was the right fit. From the very first interaction, it was clear that the culture was kind and genuine, and the community welcoming. The owner Al was warm and friendly right away and didn't try to give me the hard sell, instead inviting me to try out a couple classes to see how I liked it. There was no pressure on me to commit before I was comfortable, which in turn made me comfortable right away. I had a drastically different experience at other gyms that I visited and the energy here was a breath of fresh air. I've been attending classes regularly for the last two months as a pure beginner to martial arts and been having an incredible experience. Al and the other instructors, Vern and Charles just to name a few, are not only masters of the craft and effective with passing on their knowledge, they care about the wellbeing of everyone present and are diligent at addressing any concerns to create a safe environment. Al the owner and Chris another coach have been awesome! As well as other higher belts who are so willing to help out us newbies. I have primarily attended the morning 6am classes as they fit perfect with my schedule, plus such an awesome thing to get your workout/training done before work! The level of intimacy has been special in the morning. One of the things that makes Edge stand out to me has been the emphasis on the right attitude! Attitude of Learning over winning. Al has expressed the importance of the long-game, as much of the time we throw ourselves all in trying to out-muscle the other person in jujitsu, yet in doing so missing the point of the game. I have been guilty of this few times. Safety being a high priority in this gym's culture. Overall the vibe of the place is very encouraging and welcoming. EDGE is definitely a gym that will hold a special place in my heart. The owner, instructors, and fellow teammates here all welcome a learning environment where one feels comfortable, safe and motivated to improve their martial arts game! The gym has a regular schedule offering BJJ, Muay Thai, MMA, Judo and Wrestling classes throughout the week. All the instructor and coaches are awesome and really help you improve each time. Also, being a female in male dominated spaces can be scary for some and intimidating especially when physical contact is also involved. You don't have to worry about that here! Everyone made sure I was comfortable but also matched my speed and energy to give me a fair shot during sparring, rolling, etc. This gym is all about family and I definitely will miss training here! Been here for about a month. I am an introvert and don't like new things. However, from the first moment I walked in, everyone made me feel very welcome. I am also 53 out of shape and have never even tried jiujitsu. They have been patient, understanding and supportive each step of the way. I had been thinking about trying Jiu-Jitsu for a year before I worked up the courage to walk in. At 53 years old it took a lot of courage. I didn't know what I was getting into but i figured it would be hard and I would have to force myself to stay disciplined and go to class. They lured me in (all the way from Oakland) to purchase a gi. I ended up taking two classes and really enjoying them. Vernie gave us very clear instruction that built on itself so that we would be working an entire scenario by the end of class. I did my first rolling ever with them and each guy was very patient and helpful. They have a very safe and welcoming atmosphere. Edge Training Center is life changing. I had lost motivation after hitting a wall. I discovered Edge through my boyfriend and I am beyond happy I did. At first I was a little intimated as I have never done anything like this. Definitely out of my box. But, the first day I joined ( which was two months ago ) I automatically felt welcome and comfortable. Nandy took his time and made sure I was doing everything correctly and reassured me that everything takes time. Firstly, this is an awesome gym. I first came in during a transitionary time at my gym, I told Al about my concerns and he was more than accommodating to me. He made me feel comfortable and at home at their gym. Every time I'm in there the atmosphere is really encouraging both competitively and even for people that just started BJJ. You are never made to feel like an outsider at this gym, which I'm not sure about you, but that means a lot to me. I was very apprehensive about joining any gym because I am extremely out of shape, and frankly terrified that I couldn't keep up. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone was more welcoming than I could imagine. They pushed me to keep up, but I didn't feel embarrassed if I needed to take a break. Right away I could see that even though I am nowhere near in shape, my weight wasn't the handicap it would have been with boxing or running. I have since learned that a big guy with some technique is not without his weapons, and can even get a guy to tap on rare occasions. I joined 6 weeks ago and have been going twice a week, and have already lost 16 lbs! I would highly encourage you to attend a free class and check it out. read more

I have had private Muay Thai kick boxing lessons here for almost 2 years. Awesome gym with a family feel. All are welcome. I found the instructor to be knowledgeable, patient, kind, and willing to work with my physical limits from previous broken bones. Great with kids and adults alike. I have built up my self confidence and skills. They work with you and don't just leave you to punch a bag in a pretty gym. They teach Ju Jitsu as well. Been here for the past 4 weeks, ~4 days a week. My first impression of the gym is modest and clean. I have yet to meet anyone here w/ a negative attitude, and/or a macho ego. Everyone is helpful and all about cultivating community, rather than trying to prove how easily they can submit you. My experience w/ BJJ at this point is limited. I never wrestled before in my life and I am having so much fun doing this. It's like learning self-defense, a martial art, and rough housing, all in one. I really cannot recommend this place enough if you're looking to checkout jiujitsu. Prices are reasonable, staff is great, and the community here is lighthearted, despite having talent that some of them do. read more

You won't find a better instructor than Vernie Inocencio a black belt under Eduardo Rocha and Royler Gracie. He's a great teacher and has a ton of credentials ie. tournament wins to back them up. Clear and detail oriented but doesn't overwhelm you with too much too fast which is easy to do with beginners in BJJ. This is the most difficult martial art to master. read more

Such an amazing atmosphere. Great people, great team, and great coaches. We found Edge through Groupon and we have been 100% committed since day one. My daughter started first with JuiJitsu she was so nervous but they made sure they took their time with her so she could understood each technique. Now she's been in for almost a year with a grey belt . All because of her team and awesome coaches (Coach Al and Coach Randy). Adding on to that with my daughters encouragement I decided to join as well in learning the art of Muay Thai kickboxing! Coach Nandy and Nico are very patient and encouraging. Especially with me not working out for years it was tough, still is but I can see the difference already in my form and punches. I recommend anyone all shapes, sizes, ages, races, etc to take your time out and try it. Yes it won't be easy but it's fun and you'll feel great at the end. Love this place! I been going to the muay thai class for about 3 weeks now. At first I was scared and intimidated on attending a class of this type vecause I've never did anything like this before. But after the first class I was hooked. Our instructer Namdy is great always willing to help you and explain everything to you in detail. Also the vlass itself its always full of energy. On my doctors suggestion he recommended taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to lose weigh. I called and the staff was very friendly. My first class I was nervous and a little self conscious. The instructor Vern is world class, literally. Very laid back and extremely intuitive to working with someone carrying a lot of extra weight, I never felt awkward or embarrassed. Vern's pedigree and his accomplishments in competition speak for itself. Within a month I saw progress. I'm now three months in and have made some real progress. Cholesterol down almost 30 points and a great new family to help me on my journey. Al and Nandy are great guys that have created a great atmosphere where I can come to as many as five classes a week. The monthly dues are very reasonable (believe me, others I called charged almost twice as much for 3 classes a week) if you want a place to train that you're not just a dollar sign come down and join our family, you won't regret it! read more
