BUYER BE WARE On 12/7/21 Chris Walker from DK Farm & Nursery…read morecame out and we reviewed the job together I had multiple things needed to be done. moving, relaying installing new pavers in my back yard, build up side yard with top soil and relaying pavers, trim a hedge, remove 2 over grown Muhly grasses and replace with new 2 Muhly grasses, install a 60' Rubbermaid boarder along beds, remove some yard waste and cut a palm frond that was hitting the roof. I already had the boarder so he instructed me to purchase 6 additional pavers, which l didn't need, and he would supply the grasses and top soil. He was a very personal young man, who assured me that he would personally make sure that the job went right. He sent me an estimate of, $565.64 with only the total for labor without the jobs line itemed out, beyond the pavers. I assumed it was because it was done on his phone it limited him for characters. I realize now that was my mistake, that is give Chris the benefit of the doubt, as we had a long conversation about the project, and how much problems that I was having finding reliable and competent service people/companies. The next day Chris arrived with another young man, who he introduced as Corey and together we went over what the plan was for the boarder and pavers. Right off the bat I knew something was amiss as Chris brought no tools to do the job and used my shovel, sledge hammer, yard clippers, etc., He continually asked me to look at the work and each time I had to come up with suggestions as to what would be better. We came to a stand still as Chris told me he would not remove the dirt that was needed in order to allow the pavers to be recessed into the ground by the board of the patio. Also, he was unable to cut any pavers as he had no tools to do so, to allow for any type of professional finish to the install, see image. Five of the pavers on the pathway along the back yard are not filled in and or not level, so they rock. After 3 or 4 attempts at the side yard install the layout of pavers was finally OK, though the ground was left uneven with multiple small rocks left all over the area. The removal and reinstall of the new grasses were fine. In general, my property was left in a muddy, dis-shoveled mess. During the 2 hours Chris and Corey were here, Corey had continually made glib comments around me. Which I found highly unprofessional for someone on a job site. One of his comments was directed at me personally about my age. I 'm a single older female, and didn't feel comfortable being around the two young men any longer. I was rather confused as to why a service person would be so unprofessional on a job, only to find out that he didn't work for DK but was Chris's personal friend, who is here visiting from Kissimmee. The hedges and fronds were never cut and I didn't bring it up as by this point, I had had enough of Chris and Corey and just wanted them to leave by home. I gave them a check and they left. Beyond the inappropriate comments I was worried that I would be liable for Corey not being a paid employee of DK's if anything were to happen. After they left, I called Chris and told him that I was very unhappy with his work and that he needed to come back and fix it. He wanted to come right back, but I didn't want to have to deal with Corey again so I told him that I would get back to him with other time to come back. I also mentioned about the him not taking care of the hedge or palm frond, he argued with me that that wasn't part of the job as it wasn't listed on the estimate. I pointed out neither was the boarder, or grass install, so how was he able to use the estimate as the point of truth. He became irritated and told me that he did that as a favor, and not part of the job. He did do one thing as gratis, he cut down a small 3 branched planted and placed a couple of pavers for a place for outside trash can. I when back out found even more issues with job, called him back and he wouldn't pick up. I then realized that I was pretty much screwed so I left a message that I canceled the payment and want an adjustment to my bill. The next day I spoke with David Koning the owner the next day, who basically told me that he didn't believe me but Chris that all other labor was a favor i.e., boarder install and install of grasses. I told him that I didn't want Chris back out as he doesn't know what he is doing and I didn't want to have to deal with him and his either lack of knowledge or work ethic again, I would be happy to settled the bill at a reduced payment of $250.00, as I will have to hire someone else to fix the pavers. But he said that I was bound to the signed estimate, also that anyone who showed up to a job was covered under DK and not the home owner and that he was doubtful that I felt intimidated and was just using as an excuse. I purchased a large magnolia tree from them and she bloomed two years in a row and then she hadn't bloomed in two years so I called them and they told me exactly what to do and I did it and within four months my magnolia was blooming beautifully. Most all of my flowering plants, my trees, my shrubs my fruit trees are purchased from Canterbury because they just have quality plants that produce. There are company that knows what they're doing and they take care of their customers. When you enter into the office, they have all kinds of goodies, jellies, jams gifts, and souvenirs and you're always greeted by someone with a smiling face and someone who is very happy to see you and to take care of you. I needed a specific plant identified and I brought a piece of it in and immediately the gentleman I was dealing with told me exactly what it was how it's going to grow and how to take care of it. I had an insect problem I took them a piece of the plant that had the insect problem. They immediately knew exactly what was wrong and told me what to use and I had no problems anymore. I trust them more than I do any of the big box stores. In fact, I'll only buy my vegetables and my vegetable plants from Canterbury Farms. They were very honest company and anytime you look at their plants. They're all clean and weed free and very well taken care of. I've gone to big box stores and see dead plants on display or for sale. It's like big box stores don't care how they display things. But Canterbury farms cares and they're set up is beautiful. They have plenty of parking. Their entrance is accessible by wheelchair or cart. The kids love to go there sometimes they have on Saturdays vendors that come and sell their vegetables and fruits and whatever's in season. They also have classes to help you learn about the plants that you have in your yard and how to take care of them. They'll educate you on fertilization watering and proper practices to keep your plants, healthy, and alive. I highly recommend buying all of your plants from Canterbury farms.

It's a stunning masterpiece inside and out. They have tables and chairs, a menu full of pastries and some sandwiches, coffee, teas, & other drinks. We enjoyed our stop here, and everyone we came across was friendly and welcoming.

UPDATE (July 2025): It's been over a month since this incident occurred, and only after filing…read moreformal complaints with the BBB and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services did I finally receive any form of contact--from Gladiator Sod's insurance agent, John at Commercial Insurance Specialists, LLC. Shockingly, within the first two minutes of the call, John accused me of attempting insurance fraud and claimed that by leaving this review I was "playing dirty." He initially said he had reviewed the surveillance footage, but after I asked questions to clarify, he admitted he hadn't actually seen it--instead relying solely on what his client told him. John also stated that the owner of Gladiator Sod "would have just paid me out of pocket" for the damage of the trailer, which is strange considering no one from Gladiator Sod has ever contacted me directly--not even once--except for a vague BBB response weeks later. This situation has been nothing short of a nightmare: * My property was damaged on their premises. * I received no response until I escalated it to state agencies. * When contact was finally made, I was accused of fraud without any real investigation. If I were trying to commit fraud, would I have posted all of this publicly, pursued formal complaints, or requested insurance contact details from day one? Absolutely not. This company has shown a complete lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic customer respect. I will continue to pursue this matter further--not only because of the damage, but now because of the personal and baseless accusations made against me. UPDATE to business response: Thank you for your response. However, I must clarify several key facts: 1. This is not the first you are hearing about this. I made two separate attempts to contact your business directly prior to posting this review. In addition, I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. To imply this is a surprise undermines the efforts already made to resolve this issue privately and professionally. 2. The damage to my trailer was not present before the visit to your facility. I have reviewed surveillance footage from multiple angles on my personal property before departure and upon return, which clearly confirms the condition of the trailer changed immediately after the visit. 3. The assertion that "anything could have happened in the 5 days" is misleading. The damage was observed and documented upon immediate return--not five days later. The timeline and circumstances clearly indicate the damage occurred during loading on your premises. 4. Florida Statute 627.4137 legally requires a business to provide insurance carrier information upon request after an incident of this nature. Your refusal to provide your insurance information is a direct violation of this statute. I am again formally requesting your insurance provider's contact details so this matter can be addressed appropriately. I am still open to resolving this without escalation, but I will not hesitate to take the necessary legal steps if my request continues to be ignored. Your cooperation and compliance with Florida law would be the most professional course of action moving forward. Govern yourself accordingly. ---- On June 28, 2025, I visited your facility and purchased 1.5 pallets of sod. During the loading process, your employee caused damage to my trailer. I have reviewed surveillance footage from multiple cameras at my residence which clearly shows the trailer was free of any damage prior to departure. Upon return from your facility, the damage is evident. Based on the timing and circumstances, it is reasonable to conclude that the damage occurred on your premises and as a result of your employee's handling. As such, I am requesting the contact information for your insurance provider so that this matter can be formally addressed and resolved. They have butchered all of the small trees in our neighborhood and they look stupid. Long trunk with a tiny bit of branches at the top. Cut down limbs that had birds nests in them. Different heights cut in the bushes. Leaving tree trimmings all over. And what's funny is they ride around the neighborhood on the riding lawnmower BUT DON'T CUT THE GRASS. Drove by their trailer in the neighborhood and smelled of marijuana, explains why they don't know what they are doing. I'm sure OSHA would love to show up and smell that. These people don't know anything about landscaping and do a sloppy job. Hope our complex goes with a different company. Disgraceful.
