As the train climbed higher, I found myself quietly taking it all in, the steady ascent, the widening views, and the growing sense that I was heading somewhere extraordinary. When the Matterhorn finally came into full view, it felt less like sightseeing and more like a moment to pause and appreciate where I was. Reaching the summit was unforgettable. Standing there, surrounded by glaciers and endless peaks, I did not feel the need to say much at all. The scenery spoke for itself. A picture says a thousand words, and up at Gornergrat, even that feels like an understatement. This was not just a train ride for me; it was a reminder of how powerful and humbling nature can be. The Gornergrat GGB is an experience I would revisit without hesitation and recommend to anyone looking for something truly special.

Yelp Review 2026 #144:…read more My sister bought tickets online while having breakfast. She got us tickets and priority boarding. When we got to the station, her credit card was charged for 2 tickets and 2 priority boarding but when she was checking our tickets and priority boarding, only 1 was showing up. So, we went to the ticketing office to get clarification but the man was just plain rude and not helpful. He was not there to listen or help. Before you could even get a word out, he's already dismissing you and wants you to buy another ticket. This experience would have been an easy 5 stars if it wasn't for this terrible man. We missed our train because of all this nonsense so we had to wait to catch the next train. The people in front of us at priority boarding was also having issues with their ticket and they had theirs printed. So obviously, it's the ticketing system that's the issue. When all the drama got sorted, we were the first ones to board and got first dibs on seats next to the window so we get a good view of Matterhorn on the way up. The return trip doesn't have a separate line for priority boarding so, it was a bit more chaotic but we managed to get window seats again. The train is a bit cramped especially if you're sitting with taller/ wider people - there's no first class carriages.

From our balcony (one of two in our room) we had a view of the Matterhorn mountain and the Kirchplatz town square where there were performances in the evening. The room was elegant and well-maintained. There was a living room area with a desk, a table for four, a sofa, coffee table, and a Bluetooth enabled stereosystem. There were two bathrooms and a walk-in closet area with four large closets. There was a television in each of the two principle areas. The hotel staff was great. They provided information about the local lifts, trains, spa-gym, restaurants, and other town services. When I mentioned that one of the multiple lightbulbs in one of the bathrooms was out, it was replaced in less than an hour. The hotel had WebCam views from the various mountain peaks. Use of the spa-gym was included. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent and complementary transportation was provided for the short trip to and from the train station.

Yelp Review 2026 #140:…read more Out of all the hotels I've ever stayed at in Switzerland, this is one of my favorites. First, it's so close to the Zermatt station. There's a nice bakery next door. It's quiet. The ladies at the front desk were absolute rockstars. We just wanted to leave our backpacks and come back in the afternoon to check in but they let us check in when we got to the hotel at 8:30am without hesitation! They were super nice and friendly. There's a restaurant in front of the lobby. Our stay included breakfast but we left before breakfast hours. Our room was huge. Lots of cabinets and storage space. Our balcony had a nice view of Matterhorn and has two chairs. There's a separate living room with a TV, couch and seats, and a dining table. The bathroom was a good size with a separate shower and a tub. There are robes and slippers in the cabinet in the bedroom. A few steps outside the hotel, there are restaurants, cafes, chocolate shops, shopping, museum, a church and it's just picturesque. It's a beautiful place to be. They have little e-trucks that look like tuk tuks that can take guests/ luggage around/ to/from the train station. But we didn't need it since we didn't have luggage and the train station is like a 2-minute walk.
