It's extremely difficult to get a hold of his staff and get any customer service. Within the last hour I called his office 3 times to try and move my renter's insurance coverage from my current place to my new place. The first time I called the automated system disconnected me. The second time I called I spoke to a person, who spent 3 minutes looking up my account and then transferred me to another desk where no one picked up and I left a voice mail. And the third time the automated system put me right into a voice mail box. This isn't the first time I've had issues. Adding my landlord's company as a concerned party last year was really challenging as the staff kept getting the names and apartment number wrong. I would choose a different agent.

TLDR; Was giving incorrect information regarding double state taxation/refund request. Then asked…read moreto pay $75 consultation fee for incompetent and incorrect consultation by the rep who gave it to us after we informed her we would not be using her. Do yourself a favor and make sure you ask up front what their fees are and get it in writing. Also make sure you have a rep who has a reputation for knowing their stuff. If I could give 0 stars I would. My husband and I went to see about how to go about filing our taxes and what we needed to do as we had an unique situation where his new employer accidentally took out both VA and DC taxes. After explaining the situation and that we had fixed the issue to having only VA taken out-- but needed help to get a refund for DC payments, the Rep Izza, told us we would file for both states and maybe get some credit back, and that because his work was located in DC and we lived in VA we would be required to pay both. This is NOT TRUE. I even told her this was not to true and quoted from the internet but she would not entertain this possibility. What she should have said is we can fill out DC Form D-40B Nonresident Request for Refund (2024) as we were never a resident of DC. There were a few other questions I asked, and did not get solid answers on. It was at this point I should have gotten up and told her thanks. She said she would look up certain questions I had, and proceeded to ask us several questions from her computer screen. After coming home, I then decided to take the time googled, called and found out the proper form for refund myself. I then showed my husband and we agreed the rep was not knowledgeable. She then proceeds to call my husband and say we owe her a $75 consultation fee, a fee again for WRONG information. She would have also likely charged us to file for 2 state tax returns, when only one was necessary. I have since called the main customer service line and put in a complaint. If H&R Block wants to start charging for time (and not correct information/filing) then they need to have people sign a contract stating this upfront. I did not feel confident having this rep do my taxes and will likely not be back. Hopefully H&R block will take the time to train their employees. I don't know anyone who is willing to pay someone for bad advice or to file double charges for being incorrectly taxed twice. Talk about insult to injury. There is also a reason why they only have a few reviews...somehow all the bad reviews keep disappearing. BEWARE!!

Ya know what! I do my taxes once a year, I'm gonna drive down to Annandale and really see if this Philip Disharoon character is all he is cracked up to be as a Tax Professional. Well, as you can tell by the 5 stars, he is that and more. Not only is he a kind and friendly gentleman, he is very skilled in tax knowledge and law. He is authentic, he calls for necessary help when he needs it, he is an outstanding individual. He nearly made doing my taxes fun. It was such a pleasure chatting with him, that I'm actually looking forward to going back and doing them with him again this year. In fact, I've already booked my appointment. Most HR Blocks are the same. It's a small room with a bunch of cubicles and some basic desks. There's no differentiation there as far as this HR block goes. They don't bring you a glass of champagne and a foot massager ( like my eventual tax preparation services store will do) ;) I mean... come on people... we're dealing with a lot of stressful things #TheGovenement. Bring us some comforting things. But honestly, at an HR block it's the person that makes all the difference in the world. And I can happily report that Philip Disharoon did that. I will be driving down to Annandale for the foreseeable future to do my taxes, and I couldn't be any glader.
