Maybe the Raf Simmons or Rick Owens of babershops. It's highly respected amongst the classy but cool enough for the young and fly guys. Obviously Rich is the head designer but he has a slew of guys beside him that are great cutters. I usually get a Dark Cesar tapered sides. Rich uses the best equipment SC or Babyliss pros. I think mornings are best to book your appointment.

Somehow, however, Jose (the owner) has managed to make the new set-up feel like a regular, relaxing barbershop with the old school feel, while also making it much safer than other haircut places around here. For example: a couple months back, I went to a (decent) place in Sunnyside for a badly-needed haircut; they made do however they could (plastic dividers, masks, etc.), but they still had like 10-20 people in a relatively small indoor at the same time. Sitting still for 30 - 45 minutes with complete strangers and little to no ventilation isn't something I'd like to do unless I HAVE to these days. The Woodside Barbershop on the other hand has managed to avoid all of that, by setting up appointments (which you can easily book in advance) so you come in for YOUR 30-minute haircut. Just you and Jose, who takes real good care of your hair and is engaging/fun to chat with into the bargain. Will definitely be coming back here soon.

I'm originally from South Jersey and had the same barber in South Jersey for over 10+ years, so for me to find the right barber after moving to NY for 3.5 years was definitely challenging. Came across a few decent barbers but beyond satisfied and impressed with how Mike cuts hair. Tremendous job on the fades (sides and back) and also great scissor skills (top hair) given I'm trying to hold on to the bare minimum that I have left - lol!! Last but not least, a big S/O to Mike for the great cut, amazing prices and above all for keeping a safe and healthy environment while running the business!! Point to be noted - Mike and the clients, both keep their masks on during hair cut.

I used to go to an old school place on Long Island where a Russian barber would give you a shot of vodka while you sat down. I loved that place, but it's a bit far to travel now. The Skillman Barber Shop is pretty close, so decided to give that a try. It's pretty easy to schedule an appointment or walk in. I did the latter and was fit in after a reasonable amount of wait. The owner took care of me and the process was pleasant. The shave was a bit more light-handed than I was used to, but that's totally fine. The process was thorough and professional. Overall, I'm happy with the shave and service and would consider going back. One thing to note though is that someone that was taken care of before me had a bit of back and forth on services rendered and price. I think they were expecting one thing (or asked for one thing) and something else happened. I won't speak to that too much since I didn't overhear enough, but I would advise to make sure to clarify things before you sit down so you don't have any misunderstandings.

Just left Eddie's Barber Shop, hair still wet and no haircut. I was seated near another customer who was on a right wing rant, with his barber joining in. At one point, the customer stated that all left wing liberal actors should be shot and killed. I'm an actor. I mentioned it and said that his comments are offensive. His reply was "You're probably a fucking liberal asshole who should be shot". The barber went along with him. I took off the barbers bib, grabbed my coat and left after telling this asshole and his barber to go fuck themselves. Eddie's deserves to be put out of business. read more

That was the worst service I've ever experienced! The guy was kind of friendly, but... he was constantly picking up his cell phone and talking on the phone for 5 minutes or more each time..., also several times he went out to meet someone outdoors. And as a result I was being in the chair for more than one hour, even if his actual work on me took less than 15 min! That was really unprofessional! Will not go there again! read more
