I spent six months at EDCare Denver and am forever grateful for the care I received there. From the moment I first spoke with admissions (thanks, Keeley!) to the day-to-day groups and sessions, I was treated with kindness. As part of the Athlete Edge track, I experienced athlete-specific groups four times a week. These were some of my favorite groups! Within these groups and in my private sessions with my treatment team, I felt cared for as a person--not just a "patient." While treatment team communication is something I know EDCare is striving to continually improve, there was a constant and heartfelt message from all my providers that I matter. I came to EDCare wanting the info and the strict rules. I LOVE rules, and self-empowerment seemed like a pretty stupid idea to me. Turns out, the unique approach at EDCare allowed me to get outside of the paradigm of endless rules in favor of living and trusting myself. Thanks to those who have stood alongside me at EDCare (Brittany, Clair, Emily, Allie, Dr. Laurent, Brandon, Dr. Pryor, Dr. Becker, Kristen, Linda, Jessica, Kyle, Haley, and so many others), I have the tools I need to keep pursuing recovery, and so does my support system. If you are highly motivated and desire to truly break free from your eating disorder, I cannot recommend EDCare highly enough. My time there saved my life. read more

Do NOT go here for binge eating disorder! They do not know how to handle this. Our daughter gained 20 lbs while in their care and was only taught that no food is off limits and to 'listen to your body'. When it was brought to their attention that she had gained weight and was binging again, their answer was to just release her from the program. Stay FAR away from this place! We had such good results for our daughter at EDCare , I don't know where to begin. This was the fourth center we had sent her to, and the first three had little to no positive results - actually she was worse off after at least two of the three centers. For the first time someone (Dr. T. Pryor) actually had the understanding and took the time to explain the origins of my daughter's disorder from a neurological view and helped us understand what would be required on the long road to recovery. As a family we were not made to feel shame, nor were we blamed for here condition. Our daughter is now finally showing solid signs of recovery. ED care. I do believe a lot of the staff has good intentions and want to do whatever they can to help you, however I drew the short stick and got the worst therapist and family therapist. They asked me to be honest about how I felt about my team, and I'd been there for less than two weeks so I'd had 5 sessions with the therapist Lindsey, and 3 with the family therapist Pam, and I told them I wasn't comfortable with these people, and I got more support from the staff that run most of the groups that you attend 10 hours a day and eat meals with you. When I told my peers who my therapists were they were sympathetic because no one wants to have them on their team because they aren't good therapists, if you go here I recommend you ask to not have either Pam or Lindsey. But the real problem people are Dr. Prior and Delores. They have no compassion or even basic de-escalation skills, they discharged without any communication about it until they had already decided. Although I never used substance while I was there, and also never finished two meals in one day, they said I needed to go to rehab before I could get help for my ED while also insinuating I didn't really have an ed anyway, while also saying they didn't think I wanted help because I said I didn't feel comfortable with my therapists. When I said I felt more comfortable with my peers prior, who I'd never even met until this meeting said to me "well this isn't summer camp" throughout the meeting she was very passive aggressive and was doing the whole "bless your heart" as a way to professionally say fuck you everyway she could. I was an athlete at EDcare Denver for 3.5 months and it was honestly one of the best things that could have happened to me- yes in the moment it was hard, but that's the point. If you go into treatment at EDcare with recovery as your focus , you will do well. In order to have the best experience at EDcare and get the most out of it you have to fully emerge yourself and accept the process. EdCare does a good job at providing the tools to get there if needed with the amazing support and guidance of the milieu. These people put their heart and soul into helping patients and I would be very surprised if other treatment facilities have staff that provide the compassion, willingness, spirit and tenacity that the milieu do at EDcare (especially the front half crew). As for the edge team, Linda, Pam, Dr Landgrebe, Allie and Hilary: All I can say is that I wish all athletes who struggle with eating disorders could have the opportunity to work with this team of providers. They provide a tough love environment that is perfect for stubborn and dedicated athletes who struggle with mental health problems. The love and effort they pour into their jobs is seamless and incomparable. For example, Linda accompanying me to go grocery shopping, working with my needs as an individual even if it meant more work for her and from the start providing a open door to always talk no matter the time of day. Allie going to the swimming pool with me to provide support as I integrate back into training as well as her compassion and ability to really truly understand and give space for the emotions that come up during treatment. Lindsey for her ability to dive deep into our pasts with us and help us authentically see and discover how strong and capable we are to face challenges and the future challenges of our journey (and for playing soccer during joyful movement with us). Hilary for her unwavering amount of wisdom and the ability to provide a space to really be honest about struggles especially as a college student. Last but not least, Pam for her honesty and tenacity to fight with us against our eating disorders. Pam never let my eating disorder win no matter how hard it tried and I am so thankful for that. This group of providers never gave up on me and I know I can speak for many of my peer athletes at EDcare that they truly are a team. A team that not only works towards combatting your eating disorder but also works with you on other specific struggles within your sport and life. For example for me it included working on the root of my pressure around performance and fear of failure. Overall, my experience at EDcare gave me lessons I will take for life and I mean that with full honesty. As well as it being a treatment center for eating disorders it gave me treatment, relief, recovery, and happiness in so many other areas of my life and I couldn't be more grateful for my time there. read more

I was here for only a month. They are pushy, didn't like how I had my service dog there and told me blank to my face that I didn't have an eating disorder. I was staying at the house they provide and I fainted multiple times due to my POTS and they told me I was lying about it and was faking it. They don't care about GERD or any of your health issues you currently have. A friend of mine almost died due to having sepsis and the staff didn't think she had it. They only have two smoking breaks during their 10 hour program, right before lunch and after dinner. They don't keep an eye on everyone so I would go outside on my own to run and exercise and smoke. The house they allowed patients to live at if we felt it wasn't a good idea to be at home due to urges we have, isn't even a house patients get help at. I was actively purging and doing exercises in my room and they didn't care even after I told them. We went to a restaurant in walking distance for lunch one day and since I was actively passing out, they wanted me to catch a ride with someone but nobody wanted my service dog in their car so I had to walk. My service dog alerted to a fainting episode so I had to sit down and they yelled at me for it. They also thought I was using my dogs bathroom breaks every two hours (which was needed for him to go potty) for smoking breaks and that wasn't it. When I got there the second day, they told me I had to leave my service dog (that is not supposed to leave my side) in another room while meals were going on. This place is like a game. So if you have a service dog, or ptsd, please save your time and go elsewhere because they will talk down to you like your lying to them and like your their puppy dog that is misbehaving. read more

This is truly an incredible program. It has been about a year and a half since I discharged, and I still use tools that I have learned while in treatment. I'm still welcome to see my therapist and dietician as well. This place has helped me beyond measures! I'd highly recommend to anyone who is struggling with any type of eating disorder. I am so endlessly grateful for the care I received at EDCare. Unlike many other treatment centers, EDCare treats every eating disorder equally and gets to the root of the illness rather than focusing solely on behaviors. Being an empowerment based program, it is ideal and necessary for those who have been in treatment multiple times with little success. The amazing care given at EDCare was apparent to me at the very beginning of a 3+ month insurance battle, of trying to get me the treatment I desperately needed. Sarah was super helpful in guiding me through the admission process and it spoke volumes that the clinical team was willing to fight and advocate so hard for someone who wasn't even their patient. They battled with insurance for over 3 months before I was finally able to get the care I needed. All of the staff were incredibly compassionate & caring, and my primary 100% saved my life. EDCare offers groups on a wide range of social justice issues including weight stigma, which was such a game changer for me. EDCare won't do the work for you. The staff are there to guide you and help you in your recovery, but ultimately they can't make the changes for you. If you're not ready to put in the work for your recovery, this is not the treatment center for you. Their modality aims to guide you through the painful parts of treatment, while also ensuring that the patient is taking accountability for their recovery. Being in a larger body & struggling with all of the behaviors at different times, many traditional eating disorder treatment centers have been unable to treat me, or have done so unethically, by focusing on suppressing my weight rather than interrupting behaviors. At other facilities, I was being essentially prescribed an eating disorder which was incredibly damaging. EDCare practices through a lens of health at every size and body diversity, making treatment a welcoming place for people of ALL bodies, not just the "stereotypical eating disorder" bodies. They have specialized tracks including trauma and substance abuse which were incredibly helpful for me & many of the people I went through treatment. They also are 100% gender affirming which is absolutely crucial for a place to be safe for everybody. They have supportive housing which is a great start to interrupt behaviors before implementing those skills at home. As someone who had been in and out of treatment for 5+ years with no more than a month here and there at home at a time, I can attest that EDCare is life saving. I have been out of treatment since leaving EDCare in 2018, and should myself or anyone I know ever need treatment for their eating disorder, I will recommend EDCare in a heartbeat. Special shoutout to Dr. Goffredi, Dr. Batson, Jess (milieu), Rachel F, Dr. Rollin, Shane, and of course Dr. Pryor. They all changed my life for the better!! read more

EDCD did not offer what they advertised on their website and over the phone. I chose EDC because of their athlete's program. Their website promised a specific tracks/treatment programs for athletes, substance abuse, and trauma. The "substance abuse" and "trauma tracks" consisted of single weekly group therapy session for those people, however was not specialized outside of that. As for the athlete track, it was simply nonexistent. As a collegiate distance runner, my sport has been a huge part of my ED and my recovery. In treatment, I was called out for even mentioning running because it "could be triggering to others patients." (I never talked about running in a way that glamorized weight-loss, excessive exercise, or numbers.) This made my return to competition very difficult, as I was not able to even talk about exercise, let alone work through a disorder that was largely interlaced with my identity as an athlete. Any mention specific ED behaviors were rarely tolerated. While I understand that detailed descriptions of unhealthy behaviors are not helpful or necessary, not being allowed to even talk about these things makes working through them a vague and difficult process. I also felt that the degree of hypersensitivity and accusations of committing "micro-aggressions" (eg. accidentally addressing someone by the wrong preferred gender pronoun) encouraged patients to have a victim mindset rather than being proactive in their own recovery. Sarah milhollan also made the admission process difficult, as she was rude and hard to reach. This being said, I did make progress at EDC, however I attribute this to a few individual staff members rather than the organization as a whole. Dr. Gofreddi was my primary therapist and was a very positive influence on my recovery. Lanie was a knowledgeable and supportive nutritionist. Pam the family therapist, Dr. Rollin, and Dr. Scheeler were also very helpful. I ended up discharging myself from treatment "against medical advice" in order to continue recovery in a way that didn't shut out my running career and education. EDCD was helpful in providing structure, supervision, and individual therapy. However, I would not recommend this program to an athlete, or anyone looking for a program that prepares you to return to the real world. read more

Excellent treatment facility for both partial hospitilazion program, as well as, outpatient services. Staff are very knowledgeable and highly skilled. A part of treatment is education for all family members who desire to participate. Every patient participates in family counseling. If you are struggling with an eating disorder do not hesitate to reach out. You will be glad you did! read more

I have been calling the center for two weeks now trying to get in touch with the Program director Trish for a tour of the facility, she does not answer the phone, return phone calls or emails. I have left several message on her voicemail as well as with receptionists Monique and Andrea and still have not received a call back. If this is any inclination into the services provided I feel bad for any patient that wastes their money on this center. read more

There are definitely pros and cons however the staff there is highly political, meaning there is a lot of stuff goin on behind your back that they do not include you in. The staff has one agenda yet you and the staff are on completely different pages. They actually told me that insurance was kicking me out and I had 3 days left and when I contacted insurance I found out that this was a lie and that they just wanted me out of the program. SO there is a lot of things like that that go on and if you are intuitive you will catch on from the beginning that you are not included at all in your treatment, though they would like you to think so. it is very discouraging and not individualized in the slightest! read more

My daughter has been to six treatment centers. All were highly rated and had doctors that were supposed to be "world class"; however, it was all smoke and mirrors. Most have been HARMFUL rather than helpful. They were either punitive, abusive in their approach, lacked decent follow-on support (PHP, etc), and/or lied about what was available and failed to provide basic protections (Remuda/RLP - all of the above!). EDC Denver was without a doubt vastly superior to ALL of the other programs! They had amazing, professional staff who were truly well educated in the treatment of ED's. They have integrated a staff that is simply the best in the Western US - No arrogance, but total compassion and concern. I was shocked compared to her other experiences. They did not lie about what they could provide and who would provide it. They were totally honest... Awesome facilities (Although they need housing for IOP!)... Incredible programs... highly intelligent, capable staff... I have investigated most of the programs in the Southwest. My daughter has gone to 6 of them. Without a doubt, I would send my daughter back to EDC Denver if she ever needs that level of care again! read more
