This is the second time I have been to Prairie Inn, Both times I was greeted when I walked in, even though the bar was about 50% full. Service is always top notch and the food is delicious. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner…read more Ranch House offers Fried Chicken dinners, 3 days a week. It use to be only on Wednesday, which made for a great Hump Day treat. As the popularity of their crispy well seasoned chicken grew, they added Saturday and Sunday. Now, I can enjoy a traditional Sunday dinner. RH offers 2 piece or 4 piece dinners with two sides. You can mix your chicken, or you can choose all dark or white meat. Typically, I go with Mashed Potatoes with White Gravy and Green Beans as my sides. For me, that makes it just like the Sunday dinners when I was growing up. Sometimes when I switch it up, I order Cole Slaw and Fries. It makes it more like a picnic. I like the fried chicken here at RH, because it is super crispy and their seasoning is extra peppery. It is so peppery, you can see it the skin. Another winning dinner is, Fried Fish on Fridays. It's really good during Lent. My go to order is their, Catfish Fritters. I enjoy the bite pieces of crispy Catfish, along side an order of Cole Slaw and Fries. Pair it up with a cold beer and you've got yourself a Catholic approved meal. Ranch House truly is a dive bar, but it does have a family vibe. When you visit, you'll see a good mix of patrons and that is part of the charm of dining at RH.

When a bar caters to a blue collar crowd, you know the drinks are going to be good and the food is going to be delicious comfort bar food. I discovered RJ's from a local monthly coupon magazine that is delivered in the mail. On my first visit, I glanced over the menu and then noticed a flier with daily specials for the month. By chance, the day I was visiting the special was 8 piece wings and fries. I was sold, especially because I got decide between breaded or naked. I prefer my wings naked, so that was a win. They offered four different sauces available. I asked the bartender which one she recommended and she suggested the one I was leaning towards - Sweet & Spicy. I'm a counter, I like to have the same amount of flats and drums. I favor drums, so I wasn't too disappointed when my order had 5 drums and 3 flats. The sauce lived up to its name, it had a nice tang and my fingers didn't get too sticky while eating. The fries were crinkle, which is my favorite right behind house-cut. They were super crispy and not overly salty. Wings for lunch is always a win for me. They didn't have much of a selection of craft beers and had no IPA's. So I enjoyed a, Blue Moon. The bartender was attentive, but not overly friendly. The staff looked at me as if I didn't belong. It was my first time, I am sure once I return, they'll be warmer. I'm learning as I adjust to my new hood, that the neighborhood places are truly neighborhood favorites. I did get a giggle that they sold Yankee Candles behind the bar. They also made me smile, by having hooks under the bar. The charms of a dive bar will always surprise.

I met the day bartender at another bar during Sunday Brunch and she sold me on adding Wigglers to my bucket list of places to experience. So when I walked in Monday for a late lunch, I surprised and put a smile on her face. I took a seat at the bar and she proudly told me the daily specials and even shared the specials for the rest of the week. The Monday special is a Cheeseburger for $6. It came with a side of fries. I choose the Seasoned Fries, which are hand-cut and made in house. They also offer, Crinkle Fries which come from a bag. Typically I like Crinkle, but when you offer me hand-cut made in house fries, it is a no brainer. The burger was juicy and my toppings of pickles and onions made it more delectable. In addition to my burger and fries, I enjoyed an order of Onion Rings. I am a Onion Ring snob. Whenever I order rings, I always ask if they are from a bag or made in house. If they come from a bag, I'm not ordering. I was excited to hear that Wigglers makes and batters their rings in house. Ordering the rings, opened up a conversation with the other four men seated at the bar. We all seemed to enjoy our rings house-made, so we started sharing our favorite restaurants who has the best rings. All the other men were regulars and they treated me as if I were a regular, too. It was a welcoming experience. My order was so large, that I passed the basket around, so they could enjoy a ring, too. I was impressed. I'm going back for the Wing Special on Thursday and the Friday Fish Special, too.

I will say, my beer was cold and the frosted glass gave it an extra chill. I had a cheeseburger that was a hand patty. My garnishes were onion and lettuce and I had a side of fries. It was all served hot, but not as quickly as I would have thought being the only diner. I think with the workers do side and prep work made things a little slower.
