I'm a huge fan of their smash burgers, but the other day they had a Grilled Chicken with Pepper Jack Cheese and Bacon as a special. It was served with Crinkle Fries and a Little Cup of Ketchup. Crinkle Fries are a favorite of mine, I like how the ridges hold on to the ketchup. I also like that a dive bar serves the ketchup in an individual cup. It's a better presentation than a bottle. Plus the fact it's more sanitary. Service is always friendly and attentive. I love how all the guest, know each other and add to each other's conversations. They'll even include the non-regulars in their chit-chat. Town Club is kinda off the beaten path, but it's on Broadway the main drag through Alton. So I highly recommend that you check them out when you're in the Riverbend area.

Their bartenders are friendly and so are the other patrons. Sitting at the bar, all conversations overlap and everyone participates. I've been back several times since my first visit. One visit I added, shrimp. A Caesar Salad, Steak with 3 Shrimp and a Baked Potato made for a great meal. I kept telling myself to try the pizza, so the next time I go for lunch, I will order pizza instead of my typical Kobe Burger.

The larger open area we had sat in prior was closed. We were in a smaller more intimate bar part with a a few tables. We had a very good lunch, and the single bar tender/server, Rebecca, was holding court masterfully. Right after we got seated the place filled up and she was off and running. Got everything right at every table, gave each of us the right amount of attention. Really enjoyed her suggestion on the "Prairie Sauce for my wings"... The wife got a burger and fries, always a solid choice here. I had a Chef's Salad along with the 6 wings (Mon. special) and was stuffed. The only thing I would want different is a slightly larger plate/bowl for the salad, early on it was hard to move it all around. It all worked out, but those first few moments were a little messy. Adding photo of Chef's Salad, very well executed, appreciate the volume and presentation, the chopped meats is the right move.

Being a lover of wings, my ears perked up and I asked him where he was getting them. He told me, Sunset Bar and that they were the best in the area. Moving to my new home right before the holidays and during a pandemic, it took me awhile to finally go and check them out. He is right and so is Sheila T.. For a dive bar, this wings were killer. They had just enough sauce, so your fingers didn't get too messy and just enough spice make your lips burn. If your fingers do get messy, they give you a roll of paper towels to wipe your hands. Also, a double shout out to the kitchen crew. First, I like that my order had the same amount of drums and flats. It burns me when they are uneven. I know it doesn't affect the flavor, it's just my quirky personality. I want the numbers to match. Second shout out, is for the creative way they folded foil to seperate the wings and fries. It kept the extra sauce underneath the wings and not mixing and running underneath my crisp fries. The staff/bartender was friendly as were the other guest who were strategically spaced out around the bar following COVID guidelines. Several of them shared their favorite menu items and were genially interested in my opinion of the wings. It was also fun chatting with a group of day drinkers that were out bar hopping up the Riverroad. They truly were my type of people. When: February 6, 2021 Why: Checking out their wings.

When a bar caters to a blue collar crowd, you know the drinks are going to be good and the food is going to be delicious comfort bar food. I discovered RJ's from a local monthly coupon magazine that is delivered in the mail. On my first visit, I glanced over the menu and then noticed a flier with daily specials for the month. By chance, the day I was visiting the special was 8 piece wings and fries. I was sold, especially because I got decide between breaded or naked. I prefer my wings naked, so that was a win. They offered four different sauces available. I asked the bartender which one she recommended and she suggested the one I was leaning towards - Sweet & Spicy. I'm a counter, I like to have the same amount of flats and drums. I favor drums, so I wasn't too disappointed when my order had 5 drums and 3 flats. The sauce lived up to its name, it had a nice tang and my fingers didn't get too sticky while eating. The fries were crinkle, which is my favorite right behind house-cut. They were super crispy and not overly salty. Wings for lunch is always a win for me. They didn't have much of a selection of craft beers and had no IPA's. So I enjoyed a, Blue Moon. The bartender was attentive, but not overly friendly. The staff looked at me as if I didn't belong. It was my first time, I am sure once I return, they'll be warmer. I'm learning as I adjust to my new hood, that the neighborhood places are truly neighborhood favorites. I did get a giggle that they sold Yankee Candles behind the bar. They also made me smile, by having hooks under the bar. The charms of a dive bar will always surprise.
