I…read morearrived to the theatre only to find out that the director had decided to cancel the show and turn it into a dress rehersel. This is information you need to let people know earlier in the day not wait until they waste their time and gas money and arrive at the box office. The girl running the box office was apoigetic and nice. Someone associated from the production was trying to have the people that did buy tickets be able to sit through the rehersal since it would be a full run-through. He later told me that he was overruled and it was a no go. I did receive a refund, but even the refund doesn't cover the price of gas that was spent and sitting in traffic driving there and driving back. Not to mention there are different things I could have done with my day if i wasn't going to attend this show. Astronomical unprofessionalism and zero regard for the audience's time and frankly money. If you have already purchased tickets to one of their performances I highly recommend that you confirm if the show is still going on so your time isn't wasted. I have to say out of all of the plays I have seen in LA this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I won't be going to any future plays put on by this production company. Do better. This is pretty disgusting.

The Iranian-American playwright Houshang Touzie and his production company, Work Shop 79, are presenting his latest play at Odyssey this weekend, and I attended their rehearsal last night to be part of it. What I love most about Odyssey is that every seat is a "good seat." The lighting director and the sound engineer were busy setting everything up, and I sat silently in the darkness, watching everything come together in preparation for what was to come this weekend. Thank you, Odyssey, for welcoming plays from other cultures and languages into your theater.

Even the most seasoned actors can get a lot out of the programme. I have been working as a professional actor since the 90's, on camera and in voice over. I had been out of class for many years because I was just not connecting with the classes. Amy Jo is something else. Her years as a casting director really Bring another dimension. And her mindset classes are a completely unique thing I wish I had been taught years ago. I know the marketing can be a bit much for some but I promise you she REALLY IS ALL THAT... a truly great teacher. I'm super happy I joined the ongoing unstoppable actor membership. There is a good range of people in the class, Some people that just blow my mind and others that are starting out or coming back after a long break. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We took two series of classes with them and we plan to continue when time permits. We learned a classical Indian dance form that is seeped in tradition and it was also very fun! While I am of Korean descent, I never once felt odd for wanting to try kathak dance classes, even when I didn't know what kathak dance classes were when I saw a notice for them. I was really glad when I asked my 12 year old daughter if she would be interested and when she said yes so we signed up! We also had access to student videos so we can practice during the week and it was a terrific way of getting some exercise while we're safer at home. It was also wonderful being part of a community that is diverse, respectful, and kind towards each other. Plus, many of the students were from different parts of the U.S. and it was great to check in on them weekly. For out first online recital, my older sister was able to view it online and it was a real joy for her and us that she was able to watch since she lives in a different country. If looking for a dance class and inclusive community, I highly recommend Leela Dance Company! There are many reasons to try out their dance company.

When I arrived, the gates were wide open so that anyone from the street could walk in, no one checked tickets or enforced seating arrangements, and I was assaulted by a strange woman who sat in one of the seats I purchased. She refused to move, she refused to show her ticket, and told me I was "ruining her movie." I looked for security but there was none. I spoke to the host, who rolled his eyes and did nothing. A hidden gem. Let's jump right into this review…read more The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles is a renowned, non-profit theater known for intimate productions of classic and contemporary plays, new works, and educational programs. Two main spaces, the 500-seat Gil Cates Theater and the smaller Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater. My son and I attended a play - Table 17 and sat in the balcony box of the Gil Cates Theater. Box seats $139pp Pros 1. Very nice venue. An intimate space with every seat being a good seat. Great acoustics also. 2. Bathrooms are clean and grounds are well-kept. 3. Small bar area that sells food items and drink, including alcohol. 4. Patio area and seating in the lobby if you arrive early. Doors usually open 1 hour before showtime. Theater doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. Cons 1. Parking can be a challenge but not impossible. Metered street parking. Use the text to pay function because you can add additional time from your phone and receive reminders via text when your time is about to expire. There are also paid parking lots within walking distance. Prices will vary. I was impressed with Geffen Playhouse and will definitely be back. BTW - Table 17 was an amazing play - funny, thought provoking, and an attention grabber.

The venue is close by market with food vendors or nearby restaurants and museum. Really enjoy every time I'm here seeing a play.

I took improv because it's been a fear of mine forever, and I wanted to conquer it. I wanted to be able to break out of my shell and be okay with not being perfect, be able to think quickly on my feet, and to just let loose and have fun. I was in Matthew's Saturday class and he is an amazing teacher (and performer!! If I was in a scene with him, I would always break character and laugh). All the other people in my class were very friendly and supportive and I never felt judged -- it was just me overcoming my own insecurities. I definitely know if I keep doing more classes that it would get easier to just jump out there without hesitation. I had signed up for a month to get a taste of it and I learned a lot in just a few days. I hope to come back again more consistently once I figure out my work schedule. It was a good mix of people from what I could tell -- actors/non-actors, all walks of life. Everyone had their personal reasons of why they do improv. Even if you aren't doing improv for performance reasons, the lessons you learn do translate well to every day life. I highly recommend IFTP! Come for a great experience! And you will definitely feel and see the camaraderie. They are a family here.

Through improv, scene study, and commercial sessions, he has developed skills I never expected to see so quickly. His Junior Varsity class with Gayla Goehl has been a highlight, and he genuinely loves showing up every single week. What sets Gayla apart is her philosophy. She has a gift for helping each student discover their own authentic voice rather than molding them into someone else's idea of a performer. She meets every kid exactly where they are, and the confidence my son has built under her guidance carries far beyond the stage. Gayla creates a space where he feels comfortable asking questions, talking openly, and truly being himself. Her warmth makes her more than a coach. She is a trusted mentor. As a parent, knowing your child has that kind of support system is invaluable. She does not push. She inspires. Her advice has been spot-on every time, and her open-door approach makes both students and parents feel like they are truly part of a community.
