Anyone with negative reviews must have left their paint in the heat of cold and ruined it or they painted on a rainy humid day. I bought 2 gallons fully expecting to have to run 2 coats of paint because I do have imperfect walls. The paint went on smooth, dried perfect, and covered the walls very well. I will suggest sending in a swatch if you want a color match. Although I've used ECOs for many paint jobs with no issues, this time the colors didn't match and it is my fault for not having the patience to send in the swatch. Regardless, the paint is great and I'm definitely getting used to the color. So, I get to know I am not using a product that has done harm to animals, is non-toxic to my cats, and looks great. read more

I was interested in the "healthiest" paint option for redoing the interior of my entire home and after extensive research went with ECOS Paint (owned by Imperial Paints, based out of South Carolina but which does most of its business online). I also went with a very highly regarded painting company in my city to do the job. The painters I hired advised me against using ECOS and suggested several more established alternatives, but I ignored their advise. After all, I thought, it's just paint - how complicated could it be? My basic error was that instead of relying on the advice of real life experienced painters I thought I could Google and chatGPT my way to expertise. What I got in exchange for my hubris was a very painful lesson about the Dunning Krueger effect. This ended up being one of the most costly home renovation mistakes I've ever made. Everything started as expected on the first day. The painters prepped the dry wall surfaces and were careful with application, but after drying overnight it was clear something had gone wrong (see submitted pics). ECOS Paint's products cracked regardless of which product was used (primer, top coat, finishing, etc) or which kind of surface was painted. This persisted even after trying a second coating. My painters were horrified, and the owner of the painting company himself joined me to call up ECOS on a three way conversation to discuss what had happened. It took a few days to get them on the phone, and in the interim we repainted the surface with a standard Sherwin Williams base and coating and there were no issues with cracking, either immediately or in the long run (see side by side image of ECOS on right and Sherwin WIlliams on left on the same wall). We did similar comparisons with all of the paint lines and had the same result each time. ECOS came out as cracked garbage and Sherwin was smooth and flawless. When we finally could get ECOS on the phone, we spoke with two individuals at their company -- a British fellow by the name of Julian and his colleague. They were extremely insulting, first calling me a liar and scam artist attempting to extort money from them and calling my painting company incompetent and insulting their workers. Truly bizarre conversation considering what happened. At one point I literally had to say "Listen, you may be upset about the performance of your paint but please keep it professional. There's no need for personal insults." The Sherwin Williams (applied by the same painters on the same surfaces) had no issues. Just basic process of elimination suggests it was their paint that was the problem, not the painters themselves. We left the conversation without any resolution and I ultimately had to contact a lawyer and threaten to take them to small claims court to recompense even the cost of the paint itself. I was so mad after all the insults that I was willing to fly out to Spartanburg and face them down in front of a judge. They eventually begrudgingly gave me a refund after they received my notice of intent to sue, but the thousands of dollars to redo the paint job (ie. labor) came out of my own pocket. Not to mention the incredible stress and loss of peace of mind of the entire experience. It's unfortunate that this Yelp page is hidden in Spartanburg for a company that has screwed so many people across the country, but hopefully it comes up when their name is searched. In any case -- don't be an idiot like me. Trust the experts. Not some fly by night online company that just knows how to put up a website. Even though some time has passed since all of this went down, it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when I think about it. read more

They sent us paint that was unusable and refused to refund our money. See the attached pictures for comparisons: the left shows the paint we ordered from a different company, while the middle and right show Ecos paint, which is completely watery and cannot be applied. read more

Ecos Paints - Painters Near Me - Spartanburg, South Carolina

AVOID!!! I bought 4 quarts of paint products along with a couple of samples and I never received the package. It was extremely difficult to get my money back and there is no way I will spend money on anything by EcosPaints again. It was a huge headache. It's also true all their packaging is not environmentally responsible either. So disappointed. read more

I ordered a sample to see if I wanted the product for a larger project. The sample arrived in a box several times its size and with two non recyclable and non biodegradable pads of styrofoam. When I contacted support to ask why an eco friendly company was using toxic and environmentally unfriendly materials, I was told that was how they shipped things. If you are looking for a company committed to helping the environment, skip this green washing company. read more

This paint is absolutely wonderful!!! I use to absolutely hate painting because of the paint fumes, but now that I have discovered Ecos Paints I am so excited to be able to paint without feeling the toxic effects. It really is odorless (maybe just a really really slight smell, but not a chemical smell; my sister-in-law said it reminded her of yogurt!). I'm really amazed at this product and its superb quality. And great for the environment! The customer service is way above satisfactory. I had a whole slew of questions and they always got back to me right away with very helpful answers. I recommend Ecos Paints to everyone!!! www.ecospaints.net read more

I wanted a paint that was VOC-free because we wanted to reduce our exposure to VOC materials. I also was looking for a paint that could protect us from EMF/EMR from a nearby cellular tower. After much research, I decided to purchase this paint. I worked with a representative out of their Spartanburg, SC office. They were very helpful and answered my questions. The paint is a little more than you would pay at a Home Depot but it is definitely worth it. There was absolutely no smell and it went on the walls very nicely. The are a large assortment of colors to choose from which gave us a good variety. They will send out a sample swatch if you request it from them. After the painting was complete, it didn't appear that the Anti-EMR paint was working. But, after contacting them they assured me it was as promised. I found out that the problem wasn't the paint, but radiation coming in through our windows. I will definitely be ordering more paint from them when we are ready to paint the rest of our house. This product took 6 years to develop and it shows in the quality. read more

Warning! Don't buy from this company! I have ordered twice from them and the first time they screwed up my order and the second time they sent me a defective product - a can of paint with the consistency of a sponge. You could literally break it up into pieces. They do not respond to emails or answer their phone or return messages. They basically just stole my money. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

I too love ECOS Paints, they are durable, easy to work with and look GREAT!

I can't understand how anyone could say this paint is safe and VOC free. I purchased the kind that they say actually cleans VOCs out of the air and the rooms (one of them for my infant granddaughter) are ruined. The smell is very strong. While I was painting with it, it seemed odorless - I was thrilled. But the next day, and for a month since, even running an air filter in the room 24/7 does not remediate it. I cannot stay in my office for more than 15 minutes without getting a headache. When I look in detail at their "health certification" pdfs on the website, I note that they list respiratory and eye irritation as possible hazards on a number of the products. It also looks like the testing was not done by a reputable third party lab. If you have health issues caused by building products to any degree at all, I would stay steer clear of this product. Something is fishy here. read more

I used the Ecos air purifying primer to cover the odor of another paint. It did not work at all. The customer could still not use the room. When I called customer support, they provided absolutely no potential solution for anything. read more

Thanks to Carlos Cabal and his very poor customer service, they have completely lost my business. Shop elsewhere to save yourself a headache. read more

Ecos Floor Paints. I bought red floor paint and it came off on my socks every time I walked on it. It transferred red paint through out my home. It was terrible. A gray undercoat was needed for the red paint to bring out the color more. My husband put down the grey color and it sent me running for cover. It was not suitable for the chemically sensitive. This was in 2011 and the customer service was good then. I was given a refund and told to discard the grey paint if I chose to. Fast Forward. 2016 My husband painted my bathroom in a white color of floor paint. I chose white because I figured it would not come off on my socks and be transferred thorugh out my home. I was sent running for cover again and closing the door on the paint. It had a smell that was not suitable for the chemically sensitive at all. It was maybe ethylene glycol or turpentine or something. I was unable to care for my self and I suffered with respiratory symptoms galore and weakness and aches and pains. My spouse had to scrape up the paint completely. The red paint is still on our floor but it still bothers me as well. Each person is different with chemical allergy. I suggest test all the paints you choose. Ecos wood paint and primer did not work for me as well. read more

While the paints and stains are very safe for the chemically sensitive, I am not impressed with the quality of the outdoor stain (as it peeled up off of our deck in a matter of weeks and we followed the step by step process to a T) and I am VERY disappointed in the way I have been treated by several of the people at ecospaints. They are very cocky towards me and were not easy to work with! I will not be recommending them to anyone else and will be stopping my business with them completely...they charge more for shipping than another company I buy from and the other company is further from me than they are! We have wasted time and money with this company especially now that our stain is not lasting on our deck! We now have to dish out more money (where we will get that money, we have NO IDEA). This stuff is too pricy for the crappy quality! The interior stain works better out doors than the exterior I recommend not buying the exterior stain and just buy the interior if you want to deal with these cocky people! read more

I purchased $1,700 worth of a paint and primer for a basement remodel and the long and short was the primer product, and paint for some degree was not work-able. It would compare the primer to a paste, that even diluted down to a 1:1 still could not be applied to the wall, at least not in a thin enough liquid form. I called a sales rep and was told others have had similar complaints, but there is unfortunately nothing at the moment we can do, other to suggest adding more water. Needless to say that only complicated the problem. When I abandoned the Ecos products all together and requested even a partial refund I received the typical corp. treatment that our refund policy is very clear...translates to we can sell faulty product and we don`t have to stand behind them. Anyone with chemical sensitivities believing their products are the answer I`d second guess it, given the troubles I personally at least had with the application itself of their products. read more
