Best Western Plus Corning Inn - Indoor Pool

Best Western Plus Corning Inn

Stayed here on a trip to the Bay Area. I was a little apprehensive on the area at first. But…read moreeverything from check-in to check-out was a breeze. The lobby was sparkling clean and the desk assistants were all nice. They have free coffee through the day/evening. There is an indoor pool and spa. The pool was clean and the spa was a bit cloudy . Have to get your pool Towels at the front desk and the attendant said to take them to your room after use. The hotel is smaller and 2 floors and has an elevator. The room was clean and there wasn't any mold or peeling paint, leaks ect. The bed was comfortable and there was a small fridge, K-cup machine, and microwave. The air conditioner worked just fine. I didn't hear any noise or other guests and there wasn't any critters. Only thing was a faint hint of cigarette smoke can be smelled if someone decided to go outside, it came in from outside the vent or something. But very light smoke smell. There was a small hot breakfast every morning. Juice, eggs toast or muffins , waffles were pretty good. That area stayed clean at all times. I'd recommend staying here if a budget hotel stay is up your alley. You can tell that care is put into keeping up the place as much as they can.

Expedia, Tripadvisor, and Hotel.com led me astray with good reviews for the Corning Best Western…read moreplus on this one! Historically, I near always check for yelp reviews before booking somewhere, but Oops, I did not this time. Now I'm going back to ALWAYS lookING on Yelp before booking, even after comparing travel sites. The info I needed to not choose the BW+ is all laid out here. First the good: -The lobby and dining space were clean, as well as our second room. I was particularly happy to see a mold free shower curtain. -my kids enjoyed the waffles. The bad: -Our booked room (on 2nd floor) wreaked heavily of cigarette smoke. The smell hit us like a brick as I opened the door. Unfortunately, my kids and I had lugged in a TON of stuff from our car, as we were on an our way to spending 2 weeks in SLO, and didn't want to leave anything in our car over night. I hung out with our things, while my kids spoke to the desk about a room change. When they came back it was with a key to a room on the 1st floor on the opposite side of the building, which meant we then had to lug all of our things down a floor, and then more. The second room was thankfully cigarette smoke free. -The bedding is cheap, thin and scratchy. -There was nowhere to plug in USB cable. -We only had 2 sets of towels in the second room, and had to go back to the front desk to get the 3rd, when we had 3 people. There are also no to pool towels in the rooms. You have to get those from the front desk as well. -The pool deck was alive! I'm not kidding. There was definitely mold covering the entirety of the floor, as well as something that resembled moss. It was so gross I cleaned our shoes in our room's shower after. Ugh, and I felt it with my bare feet. I braved going in the hot tub as I was stiff and sore from the 8 hour drive, but it was not hot, not even as hot as I like for a bath... which means a bacteria haven! The jets are right at seat level, so they only hit your bum, and are really weak at that. I'm only 5'5 and a half, and the water came just below my chest while sitting. For me the whole point of a hot tub is to soak my body, which was impossible even while slouching. The front desk person was terse, and seemed unhappy to be there working with customers. When I asked if they had dairy free/milk alternatives at the breakfast bar, I was given a flat "no". Same for gluten free besides the eggs, which were all but inedible. I'm pretty sure the eggs had been the pre-made microwaveable type, like the ones they serve on cheap coach flights. This was really disappointing, as besides the Tesla charger, and the proximity to I-5, the breakfast buffet was the reason I booked this BW+. I ended up having to get something to eat elsewhere after checking out. - Lastly, the Best Western Plus wasn't even a particularly good deal $, but I figured free breakfast and pool for the kids would make it up. It did not. 2025 #1

We had made reservations and our room was ready and waiting... Entering the room all looked great! A bit on the warm side. No problem, we turned on the a/c and set the fan to stay on. We had a suite with a king bed and a pullout sofa bed. This suite also has a dresser so you can unpack. When I went to use the in room safe I found it locked in the open position so I could not use it. For some reason it wanted a credit card to operate, so I rejected that option. Then the a/c fan stops running, i turn it back to 'stay on' and it comes back on. Bedding? No problem, I'll pull out the hide a bed and unpack a bit. The hide a bed had a spring mattress. A real spring mattress. I mean this mattress was all coil springs interwoven very compactly and had a fitted sheet zippered over it. Open the zipper a bit and all you see is coil springs. Lots and lots of them, no padding, foam or insulation.. No problem, I'll just make the bed up and surely that will give some padding. We looked through the suite and could not find the blankets for the bed so we called the front desk. After a short wait, the desk clerk appeared at the door with a blanket and a sheet. She apologized because she says she doesn't know what housekeeping does. So I get to sleep on a spring board but at least I have a blanket for a cover. Oh well, no problem, I'll entertain myself with some TV while we unpack a bit and cool down. The a/c fan shuts off, so I turned it back to 'stay on'. This suite has two TVs but I can only find one remote. One TV works, the other does not. We call the front desk who assures us that the one remote will indeed operate both. After some careful probing and investigating we find that everything is plugged in, just not working. I turned on the light in that room to see better but nothing happened. I went over to the lamp and manually turned the switch on under the bulb. The light came on but the fan switched off. I turned it back to 'stay on'. Going back to see if the light switch is working now, I see that it doesn't, but there is a slight red glow on the TV control panel that came on. Grab the remote, SUCCESS!! ...as long as I don't want to watch channel 9 because that button is missing. Getting ready to change clothes to go to dinner. No Problem. We attempted to close the blinds but they refused to stay closed. We ended up having to use bag clips to hold the blinds closed. Aaah... a shower first to freshen up! No problem.... First I'll go back to the a/c fan and turn it back to 'stay on' then try the shower which has an adjustable head. Getting in felt akin to walking into a tattoo needle firing range with thousands of stinging missiles coming at you. No problem, I grab the head and turn the adjustment to what appears to be 'shower'. The missiles went away and instead I was presented with a wildly assorted variety of sprays heading off in many different directions, some not even working as they were plugged with sediment. The Body Wash they provide has a nice lemony smell. I can tell you that the last time we were here was several years ago and everything was feeling brand new. This time around was no problem, wait... i need to go turn the fan to 'stay on'.....

I have stayed here multiple times and never had all the problems that happened in May of this year…read more I booked a handicap room, which was on the 2nd floor, and had to use elevator as my friend travelling with me is quite disabled due to a stroke and has to use a walker. The room appeared nice, although 2 queens made it cramped, and there was only one desk chair for the two of us? The beds are high, which caused a problem for my companion next morning she ended up slipping onto the floor due to the carpet being rather slick and we had to call for assistance. One of the 2 security people sent to help had a medical bag, and believe it or not, they did not have a Bandaid, which was needed. Luckily I did have one that I'd packed. There are NO grab bars on the edge of the bed. The tv remote fell apart in her hand, and we called the front desk and they brought up another quite quickly. But also there were no extra blankets and my friend needed those brought up too. Our telephone didn't work, and nothing got done about it. The room itself was spotlessly clean and also the bathroom. However when I tried to open the double set of curtains, with the long plastic handle, it came off at the top of the curtain rail and the curtain would not budge. Another nuisance! The small refrigerator smelled of rotten food and did not seem to be cool enough to use, so I just used my ice chest, with ice. The person who came to bring us everything was exceedingly nice, but all the inconveniences were obviously not, and the price for this room in May was $169 before taxes. There are no discounts not even for Veterans, which my friend always received before the remodel. Even when we got to the room the card key would not open the door, and I had to call downstairs to bring up another as I had loads of luggage with me outside the door, which I could not tote downstairs. The room should definitely have two comfy chairs, not one desk chair, what is the other person supposed to sit on? Logically the room is sized for one bed, not two. As I filled out the survey like they requested, I did get an email from Calder Barnard, who apologized and that was suppose to make me feel better? No offers to compensate in any way! Poor business practice! Since staying there I now receive Rolling Hills brochures and offers, and one of the offers is for room price, they are giving me $5 off the room price. LOL. Now their price as of 10/9/25 is $229 night . Really? After all our inconveniences and email apology, that price is not at all enticing. I was thinking about giving it another try in a week or so, but their inability to make things right, is their way of doing business. As far as the Casino and restaurants, we found the snack bar, called Double Down Cafe, to be a good place to get most things. Everything is very fresh and tasty. We also ate at Fatburger, and you have to have a Fat wallet just for a cheeseburger, fries and a drink. Rock and Brews is fine if you can handle loud music, and their bar type food. We looked at menu and then left quickly. I gambled a few days and came out with a lot less than I started with. Machines are tight. In the past I would win, not at all over this 3 day period, and I went to lots of different machines, even the high roller area. The newer machines were not to my liking, so I found the more traditional dollar slots, there were too many loud gaming machines for me. I was sad they'd taken nearly all the Wheel of fortune machines out of casino. Not a good gambling experience or hotel stay. Maybe should have gone to Lake Tahoe and stayed at Harveys, much nicer rooms, more food choices, and more slots. I liked Rolling HIlls casino much more before the remodel, and especially the wonderful Buffet, that they chose to get rid of.

Upon checking in, the elderly couple at the office seemed to be the parents of the owner who doesn't work here. The man checking me in had to call his son for assistance, which is fine, but definitely took longer than expected to receive my key as it seemed the man did not know what to do as his son walked him through step by step over speaker phone how to check in me. That's fine, I'm patient. You can definitely tell this couple lives here as there's shoes lined up at the front door, the smell as if someone was cooking dinner, and the extremely loud TV in the next room of the movie that they were currently watching. Finally we get our key to the room and immediately turn on the AC to cool down the room. The room was extremely dusty, I knew this because I'm allergic to dust mites and anytime I was in the room, I was sneezing like crazy, but was fine once I left the room. The bathroom was still dirty from the previous people staying in this room, beard hairs all over the counter, didn't feel clean. The towels they provide are really thin but get the job done at drying your body, but would definitely bring shower shoes to shower, the shower is similar to that of a camping shower. Overall, I was safe, had a roof over my head for the night, and a working AC. We left early in the morning to get to where we needed to be. I would only stay here in a pinch if you need a break but I would have been better off just sleeping in my car instead of staying here. Would not stay here again for the price of $77+ a night.
