This place is terrible! I stayed for 4.5 hours and couldn't wait to leave! Very old and extremely worn. Sketch people hanging out in parking lot, which is very dark. Hot water worked at midnight when I checked in, but at 4:30am there was NO HOT WATER! No shampoo, no conditioner. The room smelled of old cigarettes and cheap body spray. There were a few drops of died blood on the sink counter. Probably not the worst place in town, but has to be pretty close. If you have any other options, I'd say go another route! read more

1* Bedbugs, poor condition, minimal breakfast. My partner and I made the grave mistake of staying here. The hotel was run down, dirty, and the room did NOT match the sparkling new looking ones on the Hotels.com website. The plumbing is backwards: "Cold is hot and hot is cold." There was also no full breakfast. Just a pot of coffee and pre-packaged muffins. Milk had been spilled all over the counter and coffee pot. No one was around to clean it up or put out other food. It took a long time for the hot water to come, there weren't enough towels, and a used bar of soap was in the shower. Gross.  Also disgusting: partner found an earwig crawling on the headboard. We checked the pillows and covers for other bugs and thought that was it. NO. We got mauled by bedbugs that night. It can take up to 2 weeks for bedbug bites to show on the skin. Our bites didn't appear until a few days after we stayed here. Once we realized what the red bumps on our skin were, I called the hotel to inform them they had a bedbug problem and that I wanted to be reimbursed for my stay. I was told I'd get a call back by 5 PM that day. Never happened. I tried getting a refund from Hotels.com and the agent spoke with Mike at the front desk. Because I didn't report bedbugs before checkout, Mike refused to refund me the $170 I paid and claimed Econo Lodge Traverse City has never had bedbugs before. He clearly doesn't read reviews since I've found plenty that report bedbugs! I had an allergic reaction and had to go to the doctor for a steroid shot. Save your money and your sanity. Don't stay at this hotel. It needs to be fumigated, thoroughly cleaned, and staff properly trained in customer service before guests can safely stay here. Ignoring reviews about bedbugs and calling guests liars is not good business practice.  To Mike: please learn to properly engage with guests. Educate yourself about how bedbug bites don't always show up overnight, pay attention to bedbug related reviews, and spend a night in your hotel if you think it's so safe and clean. read more

It was noticeable that the room was recently updated/remodeled with very poor workmanship! Microwave didn't work (maintenance had to move the large refrigeration/microwave desk unit to plug it in. The refrigerator wobbled every time ya open it's door. Phone did not work Coffeemaker was missing, the replacement they delivered leaked water all over the tray it was sitting in the next morning when we made the horrible coffee in room. Light switch next to the damaged room entry door did not control anything. The main door to the room was damaged, the veneer had a very large crack and peeling off. Toilet seat was EXTREMELY loose!!!! No soap dish in the shower, even though the pictures showed a soapdish. NO EXHAUST VENT in the bathroom, room filled up with steam during shower, mirror coated with condensation. Sink in bathroom poorly installed, large gap between the sink and the mounting frame. If we had gotten to the motel after 4, then maintenance would have been gone and we would not have use of the microwave nor the coffeemaker. Ground floor room, outside screen was damaged and screen frame was pulled away from the mounting. Ground floor room, the window was UNLOCKED when we got in the room. If I hadn't accidently noticed it while trying to close the curtains (which were too narrow) then the room would have been UNSECURED, and anyone could have climbed into the room thru that window. The "Breakfast Bar" was FAR from what was in the pictures, it was ONLY dry cereal, a few slices of white bread (no toaster) and some apples. Milk was in a NON-insulated clear glass dispenser that was marked as ORANGE JUICE, and the orange juice was in the same type of dispenser that was marked as LEMONADE, just sitting out on the counter. The room LOOKED nice, as long as you didn't look long and hard. The ONLY reason I didn't give it a ONE star... THE BEDS! They were the BEST and MOST comfortable motel bed I have ever slept on and the pillows were to match! I had the BEST SLEEP ever in a motel due to the comfort of that bed. The metal frame under the bed was noisy when climbing in and out of bed. At OVER $230 for the ONE NIGHT.... I honestly felt like we was robbed. WAY OVER PRICED!!!!. Maybe for $100... maybe, just for the bed. IF we ever head back that way again (we had a wedding to go to) we WILL stay someplace else!!!! read more

For $200 this was not the value I was expecting. While the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was fine, this place had the smell of old smoke through the lobby and in the hallways. Even though I felt perfectly safe here, the place has this kind of dicey vibe, but not quite as bad, as a motel 8 I stayed in some years ago in Lancaster-that place felt like a drug den with crack dealers swarming around on the outside, and burn stains in the bathtub. Not nearly as bad, but for $200 for the night I couldn't figure out what it was I was paying for. I wish I could say I had tried staying somewhere else, but there was really very few choices on this labor day weekend, and this was one of the best deals I could find. Pretty disappointed - the pictures must have been for a different room and/or hotel. The floors were sticky and really dirty - we took a washcloth to the floor and it came up black. It needs to be cleaned using a bleach every time. The beds were really uncomfortable and the bed frames sat so low it feels like you're sleeping on the floor. The pool was much smaller than the pictures on the website made it look. I heard another customer complaining and yelling at the staff that they wanted a refund because their room had bed bugs which wouldn't surprise me - the beds felt disgusting as well. We asked the staff to clean the room which resulted in changing of the beds, towels, and trash, but there was not a deep clean which would do them good. If the owners would just put in proper beds and bed frames, and ensure the floors were properly cleaned it would go a long way. The staff was really nice however - they opened the pool for us and were very accommodating - I think they know the hotel isn't anything great. I think the poor review is a reflection of poor ownership. I'd say stay somewhere else - we were kind of disappointed in the quality of the room. I understand it's far away from the center of town so it might not be cost efficient to renovate the property into anything excessively nice and might not sell if at a higher price point - but the maintenance of the property could be the difference maker in a quality stay for this type of product offering read more

This place is an absolute dumpster fire! The pictures in the description when booking on hotels.com is clearly of a completely different property. We checked in and left briefly to call around to find another place to stay. Came back and popped in the room to see if it was as bad as we expected. I turned in my keys and left. After trying to reach a manger multiple times for two days I contacted hotels.com. They were hung up on three times when trying to resolve the issue. TV not paired with TV remote. No closed caption. I'm deaf. No hot tub. No continental breakfast unless you want dry cereal with coffee creamer. No muffins no breakfast bars. No orange juice in 2 days. Nothing! It's 8am! This goes until 10am lol. Safe in room does not work. It was upside down and appears to have something in it. Towel rack in bathroom broke. We booked the hotel for many of our soccer families during a tournament weekend. We are used to staying in nice places but this one apparently was on the list and shouldn't have been an option for us. This one should be called a motel due to age and upkeep. Doors didn't lock to building. There was a wild dog (or badger) that hung out near the back door of the place. Building is outdated. Pool is very small. The rubber door stopper in our room was burnt up and remained on wall. Another family had an old lemon and cup in their fridge. We did get our money back (159.00 Per night) for the second nights stay and went to the Courtyard Marriott!! It was only 40.00 more for luxury! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. absolute trash and so is management. When we pulled up we knew we made a mistake. Had a room reserved for two nights, only stayed one. No hot water to take a shower in the morning, the TV didn't work, and it was dirty!!!! I have never wrote a rev on a place before, but I had to for this one. when I called and told "managemen" we were leaving because the room conditions were unacceptabl and that I was mad I couldn't even shower, she said "sorry you feel that way". lol I said, wouldn't you???? Previous owners kept it filthy, thought with new ownership it would be better maintained, but along with the filthy still there, is the treatment you get from new owners. And don't bother saying anything is wrong in your room, they will literally tell you to leave or deal with it. I feel bad for the employee's, you could tell they were treated same way. read more

I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, and it's clear there has been updating in this building. But I also believe businesses need to be fair and transparent, and $200 is too much for a room here. The hotel is in disrepair. Our bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean, but the fixtures were old or broken in our room. Lights over the sink didn't work. The hallways were dirty and damaged with stains on the carpet. But the worst part of our experience was the noise. This wasn't typical traveler noise, but was fighting, a woman screaming, doors slamming. It never stopped. From 2:00-7:30 am three men on motorcycles were partying, yelling, and fighting in the parking lot outside our window, and revved their engines frequently throughout the night. Why am I giving this hotel a one star? There is no elevator. We had to lug all of our luggage,bags, food, etc up the stairs. We stayed 4 nights........they do not clean the room other than sweep the floors and change the towels, no discount for the lack of service. The beds are too soft, if 2 adults slept in one bed, they would fall into each other. The pillows have no substance to them. The hallways and surroundings are old and dingy. My bathroom was disgusting! The underneath of the toilet was never cleaned! Black hair all over the bathroom! The tub has a green line in it. The floor in my room was sticky! I had to wear shower shoes! The sheets were dirty! They don't clean the room during the day! They leave u in a dirty room from start to finish! They refuse to make coffee in the morning at 6am. I can't say that we were disappointed, because what can you expect from Econo Lodge? I'm not that picky, but the Rooms need updating-specifically the mismatched blankets, our entrance light was out in our room when we arrived, and the bathroom is uncomfortably small (the sink is in the room). The continental breakfast is what you would expect from a low price hotel- cramped quarters and cheap foodstuff. We tend to stay at this hotel around Christmas every year, as many of the hotels/motels closer to Honor, Michigan have closed for the season. It's about what I expect from an Econolodge. For $70 per night, I don't expect mints on my pillow or anything. Just a clean room, a reasonably comfortable bed, and a decent shower with sufficient hot water. And this place delivers that. My gripes are but two. First, housekeeping came knocking on the door WELL BEFORE checkout time. Not cool. I'm paying for a place to sleep, damnit, and should not be compelled to wake up and have a conversation with housekeeping to explain that checkout isn't for another two hours. Buy a frickin' watch. Two. Apparently, the Econolodge is cool with having semi tractors camping out in their parking lot. Seems counterproductive to the hotel business, but who am I to judge? The problem, of course, is that a semi runs a generator at night to provide heat, etc. to the sleeper, particuarly in the month of December in Northern Michigan! ! The semi tractor was right outside our window, providing a melody (of sorts) all night long. I could have done without that. read more

Booked this hotel last minute for a wedding we were attending. DONT GO HERE! When you look at the map on yelp it shows that it is close to the center of traverse city. Then I mapped it on my phone and it said it was the same location. IT IS NOT CLOSE TO TRAVERSE CITY! It is 20 mins out of the city. When we complained about this false advertisement they did nothing. No way you should pay this much for a hotel not in traverse city. I also called to get directions after we did not find it online and the person on the phone couldn't tell us how to get to the hotel. She was useless. If you are looking for a motel in traverse city, go to the Sierra motel. 100% better than this place. Luckily we only have to stay here to sleep in. You would think a manager/owner would care about her customer's experiences, but clearly you can she she does not. I hope this is not a representation of all of Choice Hotels. Lisa, you have the "REGISTERED GUESTS" contact information (Mandie Ouellette)?! Yet, you have not had the courtesy to give us the time of day - but you can take the time to comment below? - Manager replies to my comment with no follow-up to resolve the matter - even when specifically asking to contact me/REGISTERED GUEST. She also is acting as if I wasn't a "REGISTERED GUEST" or in the party?! Yet, I paid with my card for the room. Or, did not happen either?! It's listed on my bank account. I have photos of my arm chewed up from your bed and fecal matter under the mattress. The desk associate stated he could see black speck under the mattress, he stated there were other complaints made by guests in your hotel (just look at the other reviews too). I still have the bites and it has been 10 days. I'll take another picture. So, how was there no confirmation whatsoever?! I was also told by the clerk they had gotten in trouble for not checking on the last bed bug complaint, and he will go quickly in the room to check and stated how grossed out they were about our situation. Immediately after, told two individuals checking in that the establishment has been low on cleaning people the past few weeks so there was no early check-in. We've contacted the corporate office and sending pictures, they also will investigate the tapes. They will follow up with this motel and investigate the matter further. I've specifically asked for the information of the agency involved in conducting the inspection to ensure the alleged comments that the general manager "followed procedure" was actually taken and the room was not booked after our visit prior to a professional investigation of the room. I do not feel the owner is credible based on her complete disregard and denial of the situation and my experiences. She seems incapable of resolving these matters appropriately and leaves me concerned on the health and safety of future customers. The manager Lisa has also accused me of making false claims against her several times - like I wasn't there as a witness or as if I like dealing with this situation. This is not fun to me. I'm just a customer that has had a very bad experience with the way this manager is handling a simple situation. This could have been easily resolved had she talked to us rather than being "unavailable" for 5 business days, making several excuses to avoid her responsibilities, then being offensive on the phone. She states she was not there when it happened, but knows there was no claims made about previous bed bug complaints, but also backtracks and says she wasn't aware of the issue for several days... which one is it? She was not there, and there are two witnesses that say otherwise. You can see how she is handling this situation by twisting it, look at the previous reviews and the Yelp ratings - this place is rated sub-par. Avoid at all costs, or deal with her continued negligence. I will make another post after the corporate investigation and provide my own update to this situation since Lisa is trying to shape this situation in her favor when clearly there have been many others dealing with her inadequate management practices. Note to manager: I will continue to post reviews on other sites so others know my experience with you and your establishment. That is my right. I'm also sending this to the Traverse City - City Commissioner, City Hall for safety concerns and inappropriate practices. Once inside, we noted that the carpet was dirty, light fixtures were full of bugs and there was cabling zip-tied to the ceiling. The room was worse. One of the walls had been wet and was partially pushed in. Moldings were missing, there was mouse droppings behind the fridge and bathroom tiles were falling off the wall. There was hair all over the bathroom floor and shower was dirty. The worst was the mattress - when we pulled the sheets back we found a large blood stain on the mattress. The toilet barely flushed and the air conditioning didn't work. We requested to be moved and they refused. We requested to speak to the manager and she refused to speak to us or provide us a refund and the person working the front desk said the place is a "shithole" and she was quitting. Where do I start... This place was disgustingly dirty, didn't look like it had been cleaned before our stay what so ever just threw some new towels on the racks. My son and I checked in around 5pm we had been on the road all day and wanted to get something to eat so we just grabbed our keys and headed for downtown. We arrived back to the motel around 9pm my son wanted to use the pool so we grabbed his swimsuit out of the car and headed in the first time to see our room... walked in and room had a nasty smell like musty or mold. Instantly we seen why... The bathroom ceiling had water damage so bad it was drooping down. After that I noticed all the mirrors were filthy and the bathtub had hair in it as well as the bathroom floor it was covered in hair!!! Then I got to the beds!!! There was pubic hair in the bed on the sheets!!! I had my son grab his sleeping bag out of the car and sleep with me on my bed in his sleeping bag. When I went down to talk to the desk they grabbed the manager I told her about the bathroom ceiling first and told her I think there's mold or something because when I go in the bathroom it affects my asthma and I have trouble breathing, I just wanted to take a shower but I couldn't because of the mold. she had a maintenance guy go with me to the room the guy pushed on the ceiling and told me it was dry and the drywall was already replaced it just needed to be painted... ummm no!!! I got back to the desk and manager said and I quote... I'm not sure what you want me to do. All the rooms are full and you already have a AAA discount, I guess I could give you another 10% off. It was so rude I just said no thanks and walked back to my room grabbed my son and left. read more

It was safe, the beds were comfortable, there was free food in the morning, check in and check out was very quick. I read all the reviews of these people complaining and can't help but know they must be whiners regularly. It was a cheap hotel and it's a place to stay in a pinch. If you want something with room service and elevators then go pay for it and whine somewhere else. The hotel did its job. My boyfriend and I stayed one night and did not "fall into each other" like another review complained. If you need a place to stay and you're on a budget, this hotel is nice and you'll be safe and that's all that matters. 9/6/19 read more

YIKES! NEVER AGAIN!!! We realize that when you book at an Econo Lodge, it's a crap shoot. Well, this one was certainly on the failing end of the spectrum... The room was outdated & had a somewhat grungy feel, but everything in town was booked. We made due, but with a little bit of a creeped out feeling. The final straw was finding bugs in the bathroom in the morning!!! Needless to say- we got a refund for the next night & got a room in Frankfort at the Harbor Lights Resort- much better! My husband and I went to Michigan from Chicago without planning ahead on Labor Day. We arrived there around 8 pm. I talked to the front desk lady, and she was so nice to let my husband and I went in the room to see if we liked it. After we checked the room, it was okay. We only paid $72 per night plus tax. It was a clean room, a good price, a comfortable bed, and a decent shower with sufficient hot water. Also, I liked the hot complimentary waffle for breakfast. We got what we paid. read more

This is a "Party Hotel" There were several rooms of very noisy partiers. I brought this to the attention of hotel staff twice and nothing was done. The noise lasted until about 3:30 am. There was nobody at the front desk when I went to check out. It took about 10 minutes of waiting for the front desk person to show up so that I could check out. This hotel and its management are a disgrace to the EconoLodge brand and should not be allowed to continue business as part of the Choice Hotels group read more

I stayed at Econo Lodge as I came up to Traverse City to visit family for the holidays. I'm originally from the area and came back but decided to stay here because its closest to my mom's house. I'll never stay here again for two reasons: 1) The heat did not work. It was so cold in the room that it felt like a cold december house with no heat for days. When I turned the heat on it just blew in cold air. So I turned it off and it was uncomfortable to even be in the room. I booked the room for two nights but did not stay here. Another reason I chose to leave was because their internet wouldn't work and the front desk woman refused to help me or listen to what I was trying to tell her. I've been working in IT for the past 6 years and she just yelled at me and refused to listen to me. While trying to access their internet, it would tell me to enter the network key for whatever reason. She told me to use EconoLodge, not Econo-Secure. I kept trying to open EconoLodge (even though I tried both), but both asked me for the network key. She kept insisting that I was "lying" and kept yelling at me till I eventually hung up. I know hotels shouldn't have a network key but for whatever reason, there was one. Unless she told me to open the wrong network. But I tried several different things. So something was wrong with their internet and the woman just continuously yelled at me. Never bothered to check it or have someone help me. And same with the heat.... I complained about the heat twice and nobody bothered to come to the room to check it, while I was busy with my christmas festivities. I had to come back to a freezing room at 11pm with no mechanic on duty, apparently. read more

We stayed one night because we needed a pet friendly hotel. What a rip off for a place that was far below average standards. Our room had broken furniture, moldy smelly shower curtain and a tub that needed to be scrubbed, and had someone else's hair in it. If they ever cleaned the tub they would see that the drain was plugged up. The sink was full of rust from drippy faucet. The only salvation was that the beds were fairly comfortable with clean sheets. There should be a law against price gouging hotel rooms on weekends especially in a sub standard hotel. We stayed at this hotel in May and let me tell you I would NEVER stay there again. Our first night the whole shower thing in the wall came out and water was flying out everywhere. Someone from the hotel came up to try and fix it and couldn't so my husband ended up fixing it. After the water had stopped the bathroom is flooded and the carpet is wet, and no one came to let us know they were gonna move us. So I went to the front desk and asked if they were gonna move us and they were like oh yeah and I said can we get a upgrade for the hassle, so we moved to a room with a king bed. WOW So when I called to let them know about the rooms needing some work the general manager returned my call and from the start came with an attitude. Then he had the nerve to say "I know people like you, you are scam artist and just want free stuff". So even though they are cheaper it's not worth it. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! read more
