Samarang Lifestyle Furniture

Samarang Lifestyle Furniture

Walking into Samarang, I immediately got the impression that this Asian style furniture store was…read morethe real deal. What I mean is that there are a lot of tacky, cheap pieces you see in home ware shops such as Loot or Bali at Home that looks like it has been inspired by South East Asia but they're just imitations. In Samarang, there are some wardrobes and drawers which have clearly been re-fashioned from antiques. The intricate carvings in the wood and the details sewn into the textiles speak of the craftsmanship behind these exquisite pieces. The staff was clearly passionate about his work and was happy to share his knowledge about the history behind particular pieces. He also informed me that the woven material which I assumed was cane or wicker was actually water hyacinth - an aquatic weed from the Amazons which can cause a lot of environmental damage but happily, the Indonesians have worked out a way to use it to weave furniture. I was particularly impressed by a low set hard wood coffee table with an oval indent in the middle, designed like a mortar to ground chillies. Pity I've already got a perfectly functional coffee table - though admittedly with no in-built chilli grinder. If you like the style of furniture at Samarang but couldn't find the perfect piece, speak to their friendly staff. Samarang can create custom made pieces specifically for your home.

Absolutely appalling customer service…read more We purchased two coffee tables from Jardan -- standard sizes and colours, nothing custom -- only to be told afterwards that they're "made to order" and can't be returned. At no stage during the sales process was this policy explained to us. It was buried in fine print, and conveniently ignored until we raised an issue. Now we're stuck with expensive furniture that doesn't work in our space, and Jardan's response has been cold, inflexible, and frankly insulting. Hiding behind vague policies and refusing to stand by your products is disgraceful for a brand that positions itself as premium. We run a retail business and would never treat customers this way. Jardan has lost us for good -- and we'll be making sure others are well aware of our experience. Avoid this brand at all costs.

We are engaged in a dispute with them concerning a manufacturing defect, which they have acknowledged and initially agreed to refund. Despite this agreement, they have ceased all communication and are refusing to address the issue further. As the second owners of the sofa, we have provided the original purchase receipt, yet Jardan continues to deny responsibility. Jardan's position is that because my name is not on the original receipt and the sofa is second-hand, they are no longer liable. This stance is in direct contravention of Australian Consumer Law, which protects the rights of subsequent owners in cases where warranties are transferable and the goods remain under warranty.

The shop is treasure chest full of beautiful things for your garden, balcony, outdoor table as well as lovely art and gifts. I recently ducked in to buy a friend a wedding present and was highly successful in buying a unique gift that I was sure they could cherish for a long time. But it's possible to buy for yourself (even if you live in an apartment) with items such as pot plants which sit over a balcony railing, candles, deck chairs and hammocks. The owner Rick who mans the shop is friendly and always willing to chat. It's obvious that he is passionate about creating comfortable spaces and an urban oasis for us Brisbane dwellers. My Secret Garden is a treat of a shop whether you're shopping for yourself or not. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Teneriffe!

You feel like you've reached the inner-sanctum of serenity as you're greeted by the sounds of chilled out meditation music blended with the gentle gurgling of splashing water. Bliss? Yes. Dark wooden shelves are adorned with outdoor table decorations - from scented candles, to table cloths and an assortment of cups, saucers, cutlery and iced tea pitchers. The middle of the shop features outdoor furniture draped in bright cushions, towels and lamps. And of course, discounted, high-quality Christmas decorations and oversized deer (why not?). A perfect place to unwind and begin hoarding those decorations for your garden which you know you'll have to have once you step foot into this oasis of calm.
