Luckily, you've still got a fair few options that don't include just private gyms at your disposal. One being Bramley Baths. Now public baths do usually feel me with fear but not here. It's a nice venue, clean, tidy and very pleasant to woke away the tensions of the day in. What's more they got a steam room. Result! My advice is to avoid anytime's when a gaggle of kids will be about. Easier said than done but they do offer lane swimming sessions, women only sessions and various options that mean you're more likely to get a good swim in rather than fight against a child induced tidal wave. Good work Leeds city council, I'm liking your style.

The usual car park is a strange shape with hills all round it. In my view it would have been better to have disposed of some of these hills. Inside there is a big swimming pool which is an irregular shape. There is one part of it though that you can do conventional lengths in. The rest of it is more of a fun pool. There are various waterfalls and there are two good slides which you either pay separately for or are forced to pay in with the swimming at some sessions. There are always plenty of attendants about. There is a seating area next to the pool for doting parents/grandparents etc or just if you fancy a break from swimming. There is access to the cafe but it isn't very close by and you cannot go in your swimming gear. There are various sports halls of different sizes, a fully-equipped gym and squash courts. The main hall also hosts large sports functions, computer fairs and is used for counting at the elections. This has tiered seating at one end. They do a range of classes such as Pilates, kickboxing, karate, spinning etc. There is/was a climbing area but I am not sure if this is now dyfunct as I haven't seen anyone using it for some years now. The changing rooms are below standard in my opinion. They are cold, the toilets aren't very clean, the ceilings are usually festooned with soggy toilet paper bombs that have dried out (nice!). The changing area for the dry sports are often littered with rubbish and the showers in this part aren't very private ie male attendants have walked through while female sportspeople are showering. There is no door to the shower area. The cafe has the usual chips with everything type fare and buns and biscuits. They do wave to those who are trying to be healthy by providing fruit and basic uninspiring salads and jacket potatoes (although I have often found they have run out of these). There is also a bar and function room within the building but it is nothing to write home about.

Firstly, there are loads of car parking spaces so there will always be somewhere to park. The range of sports offered is excellent. Firstly, the pool is seen as probably the major attraction. They have a coupld of slides available for those just wanting to have a good time but there's also space for those just wanting to get some exercise (although I'd suggest not going on a peak time at the weekend as kids parties tend to be very popular). I have participated in a number of activities here, rollerblading, indoor/outdoor football, basketball.. you name it and they are likely to have it. The facilities are not the best in the world but to me that's not really that important a factor. I see this place as somewhere where you can have some fun. Whether you want to go to get exercise or prefer to go with others and have fun Richard Dunn's is a quality venue.

It's open all year round as it has an indoor heated pool which is pretty lovely - almost like a giant bath. It's also a full sized 25m number which means that those serious about using swimming to get fit have plenty to go at. Ilkley Pool's finest hours come in the height of summer, however, when the outdoor pool, the "lido" is open for business. It's perfect for those very rare days in England when you actually need to cool off, and can be a good day out with mates as there's always plenty of young people there having fun - there's also plenty of opportunity to sunbathe if the weather really is that good. There's tennis courts and a putting green available too but it's really all about the lido - at under £4, it's the perfect summer bargain day out.

They do the full range of swimming and diving lessons and I believe there's a gym and exercises classes somewhere but as it's not my thing I couldn't comment.

The swimming area also consists of a viewers seating area, a slide, and a 'rapids' area. Swimming lessons are also available, as well as options such as 'ladies only' night. Waterworld also has a fully-equipped gym with changing rooms and showering facilities. The gym currently uses the TechnoGym products, and all are in great condition. The gym isn't huge, but caters for everybody, and all staff are helpful and friendly. There is also a studio where exercise classes take place. Classes are very varied, from yoga to dance, and all instructors are friendly and helpful. Something to suit all tastes. When not exercising, Waterworld also have a cafe just inside at the reception area. This is a great local facility, and if the changing rooms were a little more loved, updated, cleaner, and tidier, I would have no hesitation to give Waterworld 5 out of 5.

Waterworld 2000 is the best indoor water funpark in the UK. For a big kid like me, it's ideally…read moreplaced about 30 minutes drive away from Alton Towers and I've done a few fun trips to enjoy both attractions on one visit. Waterworld is located in Festival Park, a collection of leisure facilities just off the A500 ring road around Stoke-on-Trent. Fortunately, the dreadful roadworks on the A500 are gradually getting better. I aim to visit out of school holidays and so parking and overcroading hasn't been a problem but I can imagine the waterpark becoming very busy at peak periods. There is a big changing room - you'll need a 50p piece for the lockers (non refundable). There's an air of excitement as you smell the chlorine and hear the screams as you walk up the ramp to the waterpark area. There is a medium sized wavepool and a klaxon signals the start of the waves every 20 minutes. There is also another pool for swimming, splashing and which houses the assault course where you can try to get across the floasting islands. However, the multi-coloured flumes that snake round the park above your head are the main draw for me. There are a couple of twisty flumes where you can pick up quite a lot of speed if you lie down absolutely flat. There is a straight 4 lane slide where you can race your friends and family. I also enjoy the Space Bowl where a short slide ejects you into what looks like a giant toilet bowl, which you gradually circle and eventually plop out (or are flushed out) of the hole at the bottom into a pool! Nucleus was the first water-roller-coaster ride in the UK, where you ride a circuit on a raft and water jets propel you uphill as well as sliding downhill. Another great fun experience are the rapids where powereful water jets propel you round and round a loop - it's really hard to escape once you're in the vortex and there's a sense of camaradrie as swimmers help each other escape at the crucial point near the entrance to the ride. A great lesson on the power of water. There's a cafe serving some light meals and snacks. Near to Waterworld, you'll find other entertainment options including a Wedgewood outlet, cinema, bowling alley and some eating options.
