It's ideal for party groups, and I recommend you sit at the bar for that style of food. Very exciting, however we noticed that some couples were sat there too, and were a little overwhelmed by the flashes of flames, smoke and the general theatrical goings on. Plus it's hard to talk to someone when you're sat side by side. You're better off sitting at table. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Whilst it is a good Japanese restaurant, one of very few in the local area, we have had better and at a much more reasonable price. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, the teppanyaki show interesting to watch and the staff attentive and very friendly. I would however criticise the pace of the meal and the interrupted flow of service. All dishes were brought out when they were ready, regardless of whether other people at the table were eating or awaiting something. This meant some members of the party were eating whilst others were chatting, and were then left waiting for the others to finish. I also feel that for a vegetarian the prices were VERY over inflated. 6 pieces of vegetable maki sushi were £4.90. The choice was also quite limited compared to other japanese restaurants that I have frequented. I was also very disappointed to not find any tofu dishes on the set menus and teppanyaki. My tip for a great japanese dining experience, (very popular with the local japanese community in Nottingham) at a much better price is Bonsai restaurant in Nottingham. The Teppanyaki chefs are very talented and put on a real show for you while cooking the food. They also serve Sushi, Sashimi and Yakitori. I am lucky enough to have eaten Japanese food in Tokyo so the bar is set quite high fo me in terms of quality and authenticity. While this restaurant appears to be Chinese run rather than Japanese, the food still tastes authentic and the experience is very worthwhile. The Sake is great too, especially warm. Highly recommended, only loses one star for the prices.

Called Saturday evening and tried a mixture of dishes…read more The Teppanyaki bit itself is great fun: around 12 seats are arranged around a metal hot plate and the (shared) chef works in front of you. In addition to preparing the food he flourishes his tools, juggles with some of the implements and even (optionally) threw the bowls fried rice to the customers! Somehow everyone I saw trying this managed to catch it, which was a relief. For starters we had Chicken Yakitori (chicken on skewers with leek and yakitori sauce), Harumaki (deep fried Japanese spring rolls) and Prawn Tempura: these varied from £4-5.50 per portion and I'd suggest one or two each as the dishes are small but tasty. We didn't try the Sushi, Makimono, Temaki or Sahimi, although some of the others at the shared table did and it looked nicely presented. For the mains (£10-17) we went with Traditional Teppanyaki: this is the food that the chef prepares in front of you on the hot plate. This is safe, but I don't think it would be a good idea for very young children. We had Tuna filet steak seared and served with teriyaki sauce and chopped pickled ginger; Scottish sirloin Hibachi Steak which was served to order, in our case rare. The steak and teriyaki sauce was lovely, the tuna was very nice but a little overcooked to our tastes. This was accompanied by egg fried rice with chicken at the start (£4.00), fried mushrooms and bean sprouts at the end (included in the cost). Everything was nicely cooked and very tasty. We had a bottle of Australian Merlot, which was good value at under £15. The food was good value, the staff were helpful and polite, and there is a reasonable amount of parking outside. A bit of background, we were given a voucher for Wagamama which is why we decided to pop in to this particular restaurant situated in the Intu Centre for a 'quick' lunch. After queuing for 15 minutes then finally being seated it took at least another 10 for a staff member to serve us. The food was slow to arrive and also came out at wildly different times - in fact I had finished mine before my husband even got his which was disappointing. Both meals were tasty but not enough to make us want to return. Maybe it's because I'm a huge champion of independents but this was probably more expensive than some of the amazing indie restaurants that Derby has to offer with half the atmosphere. Take my advice and don't queue in this soulless shopping centre - head to the Cathedral Quarter instead and support your local restaurants!

Right food: tuna maki , £4 8 pieces, salmon maki wasn't not on the menu , these were made by request. Tuna sashimi,£8, nigiri and finally a seafood hotpot for myself and he had the spicy pork Raman, choosing udon noodles. The presentation was good, tuna was medium quality and the sushi reasonably sized. After all the sushi was consumed, the mains arrived. The broth in mine was tasty however I only found one scallop in my dish. His was also satisfactory for the price. I think the rating goes mainly to the service, as she was very pleasant and asked chef to create dishes that were not on the menu. The sushi was good. But when you have tried a lot like I have it becomes harder to be wowed.

Has its own car park which is convenient. Inside the restaurant is very nicely decorated with a very Japanese trendy Tokyo look which is different to other Japanese restaurants in Sheffield. I opted to sit on the Teppan Grill table and the chef kindly introduced me dishes and how they would be presented. Very friendly atmosphhere. Ordered a small Sake Wine and selected Sirloin steak cooked with Enoki mushrooms. Chef went to prepare whilst I waited and admired the decor. Within a few minutes, I was presented with a fresh sirloin which was instantly cooked in front of me which I wanted Medium Rare. Excellent quality of steak and the taste was unbelievalbe. Price of £19.80 including 2 sides, miso soup and rice together with the theatre and entertainment value is a steal. Will come back again and again and again!

Due to being short of time we decided to stick to a simple meal each, so we didn't sample the sushi - which seems to be the main fare. I opted for a comforting plate of pork katsu curry and it was very tasty and freshly cooked, so fresh I almost burnt my mouth on the cutlet! My only issues were that it is currently cash only and that my meal came a good 5-10 minutes after my partners - but I honestly think these are just opening month niggles. Sakura House isn't fancy, it's an honest little restaurant with lovely staff and I think it's a welcome and refreshing addition to the area.
