Really hit-and-miss experience for an EB Games. Coming here, I've had both the best customer…read moreservice I've ever gotten at an EB Games, and also the worst service I've ever experienced. I almost always find that new arrivals are sold out at this particular branch when I get here, and that may just be because there are a lot of avid gamers in the area (so if you're like me and you work in the morning/daytime, you may find yourself disappointed when you finally find time to come here on the exact release day of a new game, and it's already sold out). Just call the store first before coming in, and they'll always be happy to let you know what they have in stock, whatever it is that you're looking for--saves you the disappointment of walking out empty-handed. For reference, I find the Coventry Hills EB Games always has what I need if Beacon Hill EB is out of stock, and they're decently close by car, so they're worth calling if you're in the Northwest area!
The staff are all very, very knowledgeable, and there are genuinely good deals to be found. If you ask for anything, someone will always help you out, but the main thing to look out for is to call in for brand new releases if you don't pre-order every game you want in advance (don't rely on the online 'in-stock' information on EB's website, better to ask someone put a copy aside for you, as long as you pick it up on the same day).
For those that care about service, the daytime guys are always fantastic when I come in. There was one person in particular who work in the daytime who was probably one of the nicest and most helpful guys I've ever talked to at an EB branch. He made some solid recommendations while I was there, chatted a bit about games in general, gave me some great discounted deals on used games that didn't have their original boxes anymore, and would always go out of his way to double-check things thoroughly if I had a request.
The other day, however, I came in the evening after a long day of work and was psyched to buy a new game. I figured I'd trade in some old stuff I had to see if I could get some credit to cover the game's cost. I grabbed some games and walked in, went to the counter, and asked if I could do a trade-in. All the clerk said to me was: "It's a little late to be trading in games, isn't it?" I paused, panicking I was being 'that' terrible customer who came in right before close, and was getting ready to apologize for reading the time wrong and that I'd come back some other time, but I glanced at my watch and realized that I hadn't made a mistake, and that they still had more than an hour before close. After I responded with an awkward "Yeah, I guess it is..." (while repressing a very Canadian 'sorry'), he replied: "Well, it is what it is." Yikes. In the end I did get what I came for and he wished me a good night, but I can tell you my friend standing beside me was livid and asked why I hadn't complained on the spot. I guess I'm just not that kind of person, and bottom line, I did get tons of credit for my old games and I snagged the last Limited Edition copy of the game I came in for! The clerk was fast and tried to be helpful by making further recommendations, however my friend was so blown away by the initial service that they decided they'd never come here at night again. I didn't mind as much, so it depends on whether or not good service is your 'thing'. Some staff could leave a little to be desired in terms of customer service, but they do know their stuff, and they get the job done efficiently, so I suppose it's good enough.
