What a perfect place for a secret Sunday pint :D In my London days, I would sneak to the Salisbury Hotel on Green Lanes, and titter to myself over an ESB and the infinite sections of the Sunday Papers. Now I'm in Norwich, the Eaton Cottage is slowly (and snoozily) becoming part of the clandestine ritual.
The Cottage is, for want of flowery poetry, a real pub. Think several good real ales, carpets and wood tables, wizened regulars and fresh faced students, the occasional dog under a table snaffling for lost treasure and, biggest discovery for me, PICKLED EGGS! Yes, vinegar and albumin, back together since their messy split up in the '80's. Top tip though, if you're going for the secret pint, pickled egg breath is a clear giveaway as to your actions, best drink a pint of stout before you return home.
The pub has a slightly ramshackled outside area at the front where you'll find the smokers revelling. Inside there are several sections to the pub, which means you can often get a seat even when there's a game on the telly. Prices are good for the area, the beer is well kept and the staff are welcoming and friendly. What's not to like? read more
