Didn't review the restaurant the first time, because I didn't feel confident with my first impression. On my second visit I found myself very impressed with the service and food. I had the Cioppino, it was one of the best meals that I've had in Des Moines. The waiter highly recommended it, and he was right. I consider the Cioppino I had at Aliotos in San Francisco to be one of the best meals I've ever ate. And this dish at this particular restaurant was fantastic. My wife had the falafel plate, and that was excellent as well The atmosphere is very nice and the patio is great. I highly recommend this restaurant read more

Great place for some casual conversation. The higher ceilings had a nice feel. I enjoy the pineapple pizza and the cheesecake. read more

I had a great meal here, moderately fancy and upscale, but not crazy with stuff I haven't heard of before. My steak was cooked just perfectly, everything was good. Portions were small and prices high. Waitress was unattentive, but friendly and smart when she came by. read more

I came here based on yelp rating and it was worth it. The staff is very friendly and the pizza (#15) I had was delicious. You'd eat the pizza then the sweetness from the honey would surprise me in a good way. read more

Absolutely recommend going during happy hour to enjoy half-off pizzas! I love the pizza choices at Eatery A and the unique flavors they provide. Great wine selection as well. read more

We went for the first time a few weeks ago. Excellent food. Very good service. I appreciate when waiters give an honest response to questions. Plus he knew the menu inside and out. Food was presented well. No complaints. We will definitely go back. read more

Eatery A serves Mediterranean inspired food. The atmosphere is appealing and the food scrumptious! I enjoyed their Roasted Beet Salad (Roquefort blue, candied walnuts and arugula) and Lasagna (pork bolognese, ricotta and béchamel). The béchamel made the lasagna one of the best I ever had. Our service was fine. Overall a great experience. (Eatery A failed to get five stars from me because of the hostess. Her greeting was less than inviting and she seemed annoyed when we asked to be seated at a different table.) read more

Dined at Eatery A on Saturday night February 24th. Had to wait about 20 minutes. Found one stool at the bar which I sat. About 10 minutes later the manager, Matt, brought my husband a stool. Thanks Matt! We studied the menu while enjoying our cocktail. Got seated and a our server was Katie and she was awesome! I had the lasagne and my husband had a pizza. So good. Both entrees. Dirty Martini, vino and beer are very good! Cool place, love the the vibe. Thanks Matt and Katie for a great evening! read more

Can't say enough about how amazing this restaurant is. This is a regular spot for my fiancé and I. We've gone for happy hours, lunches, and fancy dinners. It's the type of restaurant that offers a flavor it's bite in everything it serves. LOVE IT. read more

It's hard to describe the joy of Eatery A! Over the years, it has become our neighborhood go-to. It's a great spot year-round and has something for everyone. One of the best things about Eatery A is its happy hour. Every day, you can find half-price pizzas and wine and beer specials between 3-6. I generally opt for the #2 - a classic Margherita pizza, though they do add balsamic; as somewhat of a pizza traditionalist, I always skip this. Eatery A does a great job of offering fresh new pizza choices, and the crust is the closest to true Italian pizza I've found in Des Moines. They also do a nice job of not overdoing the cheese; it is but one element of a pizza after all. Beyond their pizzas, Eatery A's cocktails are finely crafted and adventurous while not being over the top trying too hard. Their small plates are not to be missed; some of our favorites include the baba ganoush, the beets, and the carrots. If I don't get a pizza, I generally end up with the hummus plate, which includes an assortment of pickled veggies. The plate is large enough that I always take leftovers home. Eatery A is a great vibe where you'll find a great value - a high priority for us! read more

Food is good, the staff seems very competent and friendly. Always enjoy going there. Laid back place.

I have mixed feelings about Eatery A. The first time we went here, we had the #1 pizza. It was pretty outstanding. We fully intend to make it back to try their #5. There's a reason that when you walk in, you see 80% of the people having the pizza. It's good, as is the service. The last time we went, we figured we'd try something different. She had the gnocci, while I had the Spanish octopus with a side of fiery baba ghanoush. She was pretty unimpressed with the flavor of the gnocci. I tried it, and I would have to say the same. My octopus was fine, albeit dry. The chorizo in it was pretty lacking in any flavor for chorizo. The fiery baba ghanoush was definitely not fiery and reasonably lackluster. Maybe it was a one-off of just mediocre food. I don't know. Either way, we'll make it back for more pizza. read more

Probably one of the best brunches I've had in a long time and definitely the best meal I've had in Des Moines. Coffee was strong but not bitter. We started with the Brussel sprout salad. Love the crunch from the toasted Marcona almonds, but wished there was a bit more ricotta on the salad. The fiery San Marzano tomato dish with the baked eggs and chickpeas was very unique and so much flavor. I wanted to try the lemon ricotta pancake and was able to order one...I kind of wished I would have gotten a full order. The crab cake Benedict was good and the eggs cooked perfectly. The side of chorizo sausage had a nice kick to it. We sat outside and it was nice that the tables were spread out a bit so you are not sitting on top of each other. read more

Showed up for Saturday Brunch around 1:30 pm and the place was surprisingly sparse. We were probably in between rushes, so, that was nice. Service was on point, staff was friendly and bustling about getting ready for the next insurgence of people. I ordered the Turkish Coffee; cinnamon, and cardamom with dark rum and (frothed?) milk. Very nice. *** Note, they offer bottomless bloody's and mimosas for $13, I mean if you're looking for a Sunday Funday or are entertaining out of town guests that's pretty sweet. For my entree, I had the lamb gyro with some spicy potatoes. Home run. Everything was so delicious that I ate it all, I was uncomfortably full. It was like I was trying to prep for the upcoming holidays. I'm just saying that if you're having a weak willpower day, maybe stay home, don't eat here or you will be stuffed. However, this may be the perfect place if you've just run a half marathon. Oh!!! And they have happy hour every day. Every day from 3 - 6. Which is awesome! read more

Probably the best happy hour deals around (1/2 price drafts, wine, and pizza) with deliciousness that makes you tolerate the crowds. I have to admit i had to google some of ingredients but if you're open minded, you'll be happy. Pizzas are really big enough to split but having variety and leftovers isn't a bad thing. read more

Fantastic. I don't live in Des Moines, but have been visiting for work for many years. The food is slowly changing - my coworkers all thought the food here was weird and strange, but they ate quite a bit and talked about the food the rest of the week. Portions are surprisingly large for the price and the ambiance. I would say try to order a bunch of dishes to share and eat family style. Lots of interesting veggie sides with strong bold flavors. read more

Popped in late on a Saturday night. For three people we split three vegetable sides (carrots, potatoes and mushrooms), three kabobs (beef, pork and chicken) and three lamb sliders. This only thing we would not get again was the beef kabob as the beef was dry. Everything else was phenomenal! We had just moved my son into an apartment nearby and he was looking forward to going back and exploring the menu further. And we will definitely visit again when we are in town. read more

Ok so a bit boujee and trendy and cool ambiance and decor! Come with folks who would enjoy it. Not an ideal place if you're with a picky eater. Fortunately for those who may be picky you can build your own pizza. This place is a cross between Mediterranean and pizza place. Personally I loved it!!! If you are vegetarian there are plenty of options. Had the Cauliflower and Chickpea Falafel and it was so good! It just melts in your mouth and was not dried out at all!!! Great hummus and pickled veggies. Good selection from the bar too. Definitely glad we came here for dinner!! read more

My rating 100% reflects the pizza. This is THE BEST pizza I have ever had the pleasure of eating. All pizzas from this point forward will be compared to this experience. The crust is coated in a seasoning (I'm guessing garlic powder) and is the perfect thin crust that still holds its shape and toppings. The cheese is caramelized, which gives a deeper taste you won't get anywhere else. We ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza and plain cheese pizza; did not disappoint! You have got to try this place if you want artisan pizza with rich flavor. read more

Avocado grain bowl with chicken is spot on. Perfect lunch portion. I arrived at 11:30 and had my lunch in front of me in 10 minutes.

The happy hour deal here is a must do! It is available 2:00-6:00 pm everyday. Haven't had a bad thing on the menu yet!

Exceeded our expectations. Ordered the jalapeño jam pizza & the cavatelli. Both came with surprises. The jalapeños & cilantro on the pizza were a delightful surprise. The cavatelli came & it was green. I was thrilled. I worried about my husband- it's what he ordered & he's a huge fan of red sauce. He loved the pasta! How can you go wrong with homemade pasta, sausage, mushrooms & pesto?!? We had a large amount of food & we polished it all off because it was so good! The inside is stunning! We loved the wood ceiling. We'll be back. read more

Best happy hour deal! Half price wine and half price pizza?!!! Yes, please! First, the pizza crust was amazing, I would go as far to say it was perfect! I got the truffle mushroom pizza and it didn't disappoint. The truffle was perfect; not too much and not too little. We also tried 3 sides: the mushrooms, the Brussels, and papas bravado. I found the mushrooms and brussles delicious and I would order them again immediately. The papas bravas were good, but not as memorable as the other sides. I'd like to try something new next time. Lastly, we got a Malbec wine. It was very good and half price to boot. Our server was awesome, making sure we knew when happy hour was ending and all the different options and customizations we could request, which I really appreciated Overall, good food, Amazing service, Good ambiance, although slightly noisy; a solid 4+ star review. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more

I can't say enough good things about their pizza! We've gone several times and picked up Togo orders often, and I usually get a build your own pizza. I have been here a handful of times and always come for the pizza! Today is November 9th on a Saturday and I decided to join you guys for brunch! Eatery A is probably my favorite spot in DSM! The patio is perfect for summer. Their happy hour runs 2-6 with half price draft beer, wine, and pizza. We basically only go for happy hour, but it's great! The brick oven pizza is some of the best I've had with interesting combinations and perfect crust. They have a solid wine selection as well. Sometimes we'll try several different glasses or go with our standard Charles & Charles Cabernet or a Sauv Blanc. Any time I talk to someone visiting dsm, Eatery A is my first recommendation. read more

Large party of 20. Short notice made a room at 730 pm. Drink and food orders within 20 minutes. Most had pizza, I had mixed grill skewers of shrimp, fish and lamb. Each sat in own bed of cheese, rice and couscous with food savory sauce. Three for two special. Dinner service was exceptional. Entrees about 15-25 dollars. Anchor steam on tap Wine list extensive. Restaurant was 75% full on Thursday evening at end of rush. Weekend for large parties make arrangements read more

I know why Eatery /A has an A in the name! It does not stand for Awesome though the patio is! It does not stand for Amazing though the service was! It does not even stand for Always which is when I want to come back! I think it just stands for the letter grade I would give the over all experience! A! Hell A+ This place rules! The building is beautiful, it's fancy but not stuffy, the patio is one of the best in the city, the service is great, and the food really nocks it out of the park! They made sure to customized our order to make sure everything was vegan! The tahini they put on the Brussel sprouts was amazing, but beware some of the tahini they have is yogurt based! But our waiter made sure that we got it without! Now I have had Pizza from here before but never ordered my own, they made me a fantastic vegan pizza that was just beautiful and perfectly cooked. I love a crispy crust with a little darkness too it and it was done immaculately. I look forward to going back and maybe sitting inside this fall or winter but the patio is out of this world so when it's nice out you got to sit out there! It's first come first serve so you may have to wait for a table but the experence is worth it! read more

This place is pretty good it has similar flavor profiles as Proof but they have more inventive dishes. Here's the short review: if you're hungry order the pizza it's one of the best in town. Do not order the entrees and expect to be full. As you will see my pictures if I stared at my entree for too long it would have disappeared. Okay here's the long review: came here on a Friday night. The place was packed. They told us the wait was going to be an hour, we said it was fine. Here is what is weird, they don't give you a buzzer. They simply say they "find" you when they are ready to seat you. This is a horrible system as the hostess doesn't remember what you look like and they inevitably just walk around the restaurant saying "are you Mr. Z?". They need to change this. Anyway the wait was more like 20 min, we granted a drink from the bar while we waited (they make great old fashioneds) and hung out on they patio. When it was our turn to sit we ordered an order of chicken croquettes and a pizza with guanciale (pork cheek), egg, and potatoes. The pizza is phenomenal quite literally one of the best in town. The crust has a sourdough flavor and is bubbly and chewy. The croquettes were meh... Crispy but dry. Then we moved on to our entrees. I had the roasted lamb... Which would have evaporated under strong light. The lamb itself though was very good but the portion was smurf-like. My wife had the hanger steak which was more substantial and very good too. It was however heavily spiced almost to the point that you could not taste the steak. The potatoes that the steak came with were great crispy and spicy Then came dessert. We opted for three :). We had the budino, zepole and olive oil polenta came. The zepole were light and airy they came with a lemon custard for dipping. Hands down the best dessert. I wish they would serve it with warm chocolate but I digress. The Busoni (Italian custard) was very good but very one note. The olive oil polenta cake was like eating a cliff bar with gelato. We were not a fan. Overall a good meal but we will only be back for pizza. read more

We have dined here countless of times. This by far was the most Terrible experience we had both in service and food. I understand we are in the middle of a pandemic but food quality should not be this terrible. The Lasagna was burnt to a point we could not eat it. Pizza is as watery. We also had take out order and they did not put to go utensils. Des Moines has better options save your time and money and go somewhere else. read more

Definitely one of my favorite places for happy hour. Half off wine and beer and half off pizza? What more can you ask for? Price: Look to spend about $7 for a pizza at happy hour price. and probably $4 for beer and $6+ for a glass of wine. Parking: They have a small lot but at peak hours, it is tough. You might have to circle the block a few times to find parking unless you get lucky. Food: They have all sorts of wood fired pizzas and nothing ordinary, might I add. Ranging from goat cheese with white sauce to red sauce vegetarian pizzas, you'll probably find something you like. One thing I don't like is that a lot of the pizzas are sweet. Even the meaty ones. Service: No complaints, nor highlights Overall, I'd def hit this place up again during happy hour as the price is right and the food is dank. read more

I'm rating this for the food and the staff, but I will say they need to turn down the music a bit so you can really enjoy the company. That being said, this is a great place for groups--we had a large party and they handled it beautifully. The hummus and mushrooms were a perfect start. I could eat those mushrooms for every meal! We also split a #14 pizza (horizo, pineapple, jalapeño jam / Red Sauce)--the pizzas are certainly share worthy or you will be taking some home. Other pizza's enjoyed by our table included a gluten free option, which was a winner (and they are very careful not to cross contaminate). Also enjoyed by our table was the gnocci and chicken a pizza with finocchiona, italian sausage, onion, mushroom, red pepper / Red Sauce, and one with lamb gyro, feta, pickled onion, raita / White Sauce read more

So a little bit of everything Mediterranean here, we started off with the stuffed dates and meatballs which were both homeruns, wish they gave a little more on each for the price but that aside they were delicious For my entrée I got the chicken breast, which I would consider more of a Moroccan dish does come cut up with bone in, this dish was full of awesome flavors and very juicy. They did a great job on not serving the chicken too dry, but to its full potential. The mujadara rice, golden raisins, caramelized shallots were the sides that came with it and were a very good pairing. I love Moroccan food and it is very hard to find. Can't forget the yogurt style sauce that came on the side, not a lot but enough to enhance your food. Yes we had desert, who wouldn't Had the bread pudding on special that came with chocolate gelato and an orange type of sauce after a few bites you could tell how rich, thick, and great this fine constructed baked desert was. Please share this one if its available there is plenty to go around. Everyone had pizza around us, didn't try it but it looked good and that's what kept coming out of the kitchen. Plenty to try here and can't wait to go back. read more
