Probably one of the best brunches I've had in a long time and definitely the best meal I've had in Des Moines. Coffee was strong but not bitter. We started with the Brussel sprout salad. Love the crunch from the toasted Marcona almonds, but wished there was a bit more ricotta on the salad. The fiery San Marzano tomato dish with the baked eggs and chickpeas was very unique and so much flavor. I wanted to try the lemon ricotta pancake and was able to order one...I kind of wished I would have gotten a full order. The crab cake Benedict was good and the eggs cooked perfectly. Fantastic. I don't live in Des Moines, but have been visiting for work for many years. The food is slowly changing - my coworkers all thought the food here was weird and strange, but they ate quite a bit and talked about the food the rest of the week. My rating 100% reflects the pizza. This is THE BEST pizza I have ever had the pleasure of eating. All pizzas from this point forward will be compared to this experience. The crust is coated in a seasoning (I'm guessing garlic powder) and is the perfect thin crust that still holds its shape and toppings. I got the truffle mushroom pizza and it didn't disappoint. The truffle was perfect; not too much and not too little. We also tried 3 sides: the mushrooms, the Brussels, and papas bravado. I found the mushrooms and brussles delicious and I would order them again immediately. The papas bravas were good, but not as memorable as the other sides. I'd like to try something new next time. Lastly, we got a Malbec wine. It was very good and half price to boot. I can't say enough good things about their pizza! We've gone several times and picked up Togo orders often, and I usually get a build your own pizza. Eatery A is probably my favorite spot in DSM! The patio is perfect for summer. Their happy hour runs 2-6 with half price draft beer, wine, and pizza. We basically only go for happy hour, but it's great! The brick oven pizza is some of the best I've had with interesting combinations and perfect crust. They have a solid wine selection as well. Sometimes we'll try several different glasses or go with our standard Charles & Charles Cabernet or a Sauv Blanc. This place was absolutely divine. A group of friends & I came to Eatery A over this past weekend, and had such an amazing experience. Our server was very kind and attentive. Our service was fast (they were a little slow by the time we got there) and the food was absolutely delicious. Our table combined got half the menu because we all got something different. From what I tried though, you can not go wrong with whatever you order. I got the bruschetta, hummus, and lamb gyro pizza. I had plenty of leftovers for the next day as well. Picked up takeout last night! Sorry to see so many patrons with huge groups inside eating, but the staff was super masked up. Takeout was delicious! We had the hanger steak, the Parisian gnocchi, the ham and cheese croquettes, and the pasta tad bravas! I'd recommend it all! My fave were the patatas bravas and the croquettes. The Brussels and hanger steak were fantastic. The Parisian gnocchi I liked, but to be honest it felt a little too dry to not have any sauce on the side. The texture is very cornmeal-like, and I loved the flavor and texture, but I really wished I had some sort of sauce to dip them in to add some moisture. Besides that, I love Eatery A always. Hoping Iowans get vaccinated and we can improve our ability to squash this pandemic so we can get back to safely dining out! Came here for a Friday lunch, only to find out they offer brunch and pizza. Neither were sounding what I was looking for, but when in Des Moines..... I ordered the Margarita style pizza, my husband a sausage, fennel and mushroom. Both of these pies had an awesome crust that held up with all the toppings and was crispy to the last piece as the pie gradually cooled. My only complaint was the EXCESSIVE garlic in the red sauce. After about an hour after lunch, the garlic aftertaste was so extreme, we had to purchase multiple packs of gum, mints, and mouthwash before interacting with the public. Next time I'll try a pizza with an olive oil base, and hopefully avoid the garlic. Killer crust guys, keep up the good dough making! read more

My friend and I ordered 2 pizzas- the #8 chicken, garlic, olives, pickled onion, feta, greens and white sauce and the #15 spinach, goat cheese, honey, red onion, olive oil. We both greatly preferred the #15. Nice sized portions, one pizza is plenty for 2 people. Eating leftovers now and would go back again, especially in nicer weather when the patio is open. read more

It does not even stand for Always which is when I want to come back! I think it just stands for the letter grade I would give the over all experience! A! Hell A+ This place rules! The building is beautiful, it's fancy but not stuffy, the patio is one of the best in the city, the service is great, and the food really nocks it out of the park! They made sure to customized our order to make sure everything was vegan! The tahini they put on the Brussel sprouts was amazing, but beware some of the tahini they have is yogurt based! But our waiter made sure that we got it without! Now I have had Pizza from here before but never ordered my own, they made me a fantastic vegan pizza that was just beautiful and perfectly cooked. I love a crispy crust with a little darkness too it and it was done immaculately. I look forward to going back and maybe sitting inside this fall or winter but the patio is out of this world so when it's nice out you got to sit out there! This place is pretty good it has similar flavor profiles as Proof but they have more inventive dishes. Here's the short review: if you're hungry order the pizza it's one of the best in town. Do not order the entrees and expect to be full. As you will see my pictures if I stared at my entree for too long it would have disappeared. Okay here's the long review: came here on a Friday night. The place was packed. They told us the wait was going to be an hour, we said it was fine. Here is what is weird, they don't give you a buzzer. They simply say they "find" you when they are ready to seat you. This is a horrible system as the hostess doesn't remember what you look like and they inevitably just walk around the restaurant saying "are you Mr. Z?". They need to change this. Anyway the wait was more like 20 min, we granted a drink from the bar while we waited (they make great old fashioneds) and hung out on they patio. When it was our turn to sit we ordered an order of chicken croquettes and a pizza with guanciale (pork cheek), egg, and potatoes. The pizza is phenomenal quite literally one of the best in town. The crust has a sourdough flavor and is bubbly and chewy. The croquettes were meh... Crispy but dry. Then we moved on to our entrees. I had the roasted lamb... Which would have evaporated under strong light. The lamb itself though was very good but the portion was smurf-like. My wife had the hanger steak which was more substantial and very good too. It was however heavily spiced almost to the point that you could not taste the steak. The potatoes that the steak came with were great crispy and spicy Then came dessert. We opted for three :). We had the budino, zepole and olive oil polenta came. The zepole were light and airy they came with a lemon custard for dipping. Hands down the best dessert. I wish they would serve it with warm chocolate but I digress. The Busoni (Italian custard) was very good but very one note. The olive oil polenta cake was like eating a cliff bar with gelato. We were not a fan. Overall a good meal but we will only be back for pizza. read more

Price: Look to spend about $7 for a pizza at happy hour price. and probably $4 for beer and $6+ for a glass of wine. Parking: They have a small lot but at peak hours, it is tough. You might have to circle the block a few times to find parking unless you get lucky. Food: They have all sorts of wood fired pizzas and nothing ordinary, might I add. Ranging from goat cheese with white sauce to red sauce vegetarian pizzas, you'll probably find something you like. One thing I don't like is that a lot of the pizzas are sweet. Even the meaty ones. First the menu is pretty small outside of the pizzas and pretty pricey. Pizzas are $18 personal sized pizzas, even the cheese. Ordered the lamb gyro which was pretty bland and the tzatziki sauce on it tasted funky. My side was the kale Caesar salad which was bad. It was loaded with dressing and cheese, but the dressing tasted nothing like Caesar dressing and had a weird off taste to it. My wife had the pancakes which were good, so that was a plus. Overall we left paying too much money for a meal that was bland and not very satisfying. There are so many other better options. read more

The portions of food were not worth the price paid: $12 for what was basically a side salad, and $8+ for an appetizer of winter squash that included exactly three thin slices of squash. So a little bit of everything Mediterranean here, we started off with the stuffed dates and meatballs which were both homeruns, wish they gave a little more on each for the price but that aside they were delicious For my entrée I got the chicken breast, which I would consider more of a Moroccan dish does come cut up with bone in, this dish was full of awesome flavors and very juicy. They did a great job on not serving the chicken too dry, but to its full potential. The mujadara rice, golden raisins, caramelized shallots were the sides that came with it and were a very good pairing. I love Moroccan food and it is very hard to find. Can't forget the yogurt style sauce that came on the side, not a lot but enough to enhance your food. Yes we had desert, who wouldn't Had the bread pudding on special that came with chocolate gelato and an orange type of sauce after a few bites you could tell how rich, thick, and great this fine constructed baked desert was. Please share this one if its available there is plenty to go around. Everyone had pizza around us, didn't try it but it looked good and that's what kept coming out of the kitchen.
