Got the yelp deal, showed up one time about a month back at around 7 PM and was told that most of the good stuff was gone.
For the Americans in the crowd, you could think of this as Italian Chipotle, but considerably nicer.
As Sophie and others have mentioned, you pick a pasta, piada (read: italian flatbread that's kind of like hench paratha or roti) or salad, a sauce, and three toppings (extras are 50p)
Attractive enough branding and clean, industrial looking interiors lend Eatalio the appearance of a proper lunchtime eatery. I ordered the British rump steak and almost opted for basil pesto sauce before being reproached by the manager, who steered me towards the rather plain sounding pomodoro. I am glad I listened.
If there is one thing that really distinguishes Eatalio from some kind of posh Subway, it's the flavour of their sauces and toppings. This is part and parcel of those truisms and tired rhetoric about the freshest ingredients, but trite or not, it's what makes Eatalio worthwhile. Two things cut through the sauce: tomato and garlic. No surprises, but simple elegance is a winner. Onions have the right amount of bite and aren't too weak. As you would expect from a proper italian place, the Parmesan here is excellent. Nicely shaved and has that umami we all crave.
Given that I got two massive wraps (sadly not both for me), drinks, and a suitably dense brownie for 10 quid (with the yelp deal), this was probably the single best value for money meal I've had in Brighton. Definitely buy the voucher and at least try this place.
There was a bit of a wait, but I was duly notified of this when I ordered my steak. My friend ordered a chicken piada, which didn't take much time at all and was reportedly excellent. That said, we did turn up around 1:45; the lunch rush must have already been dwindling.
I can't wait to go back and try a pasta bowl! Would give this 4 and a half, if that were an option. read more
