I booked the easyHotel in East Croydon based upon it's proximity to the train/bus stations. I was a little weary based upon reviews, but I went for it as it was very reasonably priced.
The Good:
-Hotel was clean
-Bed and pillows were comfortable
-Location to public transportation, dining options, shopping
-Large windows
-Good for a solo traveler needing a room for a night or two
I was given a corner room, which I know was more spacious that other rooms and there was a hallway where I could put my large suitcase
The not-so-good:
-One hanger. One.
-One towel provided.
-Nowhere to set items off the floor, besides the window ledges (or in bathroom)
-The bathroom is reminiscent of a high school locker room. Take a shower and EVERYTHING will get wet.
The ugly:
-The temperature in the room was extremely difficult to control. I was either sweating to death or freezing.
-The lobby experience - upon entering, I felt as if I entered a purgatory of sorts. There was a sign on the reception desk stating the employee would be returning momentarily. It felt as if it were 30C degrees and I could not take enough clothes off to get comfortable. Just as I felt I was going to pass out from heat stroke, an employee entered the lobby. At this point, 45 minutes had passed and there were several people waiting in the lobby wanting to check-in or having some kind of issue.
-You can hear everything through the shared wall(s); you can also smell everything (pot) through the walls.
-The TV is mounted so high on the wall! I had to jump to flip the switch to "on" on the switch panel so it could turn on (after 10 minutes of trying to figure out why it would not turn on)
I was planning on spending 4 nights at this hotel, but ended up checking out early. It seemed as if the people in the room next to me (literally on the other side of the wall adjacent to the bed) never stopped smoking and I heard more than one person expressing their unpleasantries to the reception desk employees on more than one occasion.
Overall, I would say it is fine if you are traveling solo and spending a night or two. Would not recommend for families or if you are planning on spending more than 2 nights. read more
