They say things are bigger in Texas and this was only an Australian take on Texan food. As the name…read moresuggests, Mexican is also on offer and makes a great combination. Our waitress for the evening was Aimee. I think she was bombarded by many tables as it was difficult to get her attention for further drink orders; neither was she proactive in asking. A little work polishing her interactions to come across more genuine would go a long way. Some meals were much larger than others and the use of small bowls to divide the sides (salad, chips, beans I can understand though) was pointless to me. Save yourselves more washing up considering it didn't present itself better for having them. We made the right decision skipping entree though. Would have left no room for birthday cake. I ordered the Mexican chicken steak. It was huge! 2 chicken steaks topped with bacon, guacamole and jalepeno sauce served with salad and chips. The salad was undressed and boring. The chicken steaks were over cooked and dry and the lack of jalepeno sauce didn't help that fact. More sauce and more heat please! I tried my partners slow cooked rib eye and my brothers HUGE 600g steak. Both absolutely delicious. Should have ordered steak. Located in the Wests Club at Cardiff with 10% discount for full members. Reserve a table as it was very busy.

When we arrived we were still waiting for a few other people to arrive and were looking through our menus. Our waitress Aimee introduced herself and said we could order drinks at the bar or from her and have them on the tab. She said we could choose but in the end it ended up being whatever you wanted. Sometimes it was a bit hard to get her attention (understandably it was a busy Saturday night and she had multiple tables.) but taking a drink order from one end of the table and not the other is a bit silly. Based on the size of the meals we saw arriving at other tables we opted to skip entrees. I chose the 300g Rib Eye, with chips and salad. These come out medium but I asked for it cooked slightly longer. It took a fair while for the food to arrive but being steak I assumed as much. When I got my food it had come with a Jus sauce That wasn't on the menu. Which was fantastic. The chips were awesome too. The steak well. It was amazing. The char grilled outside with all the herbs and spices and the Jus was nothing short of delicious. The only thing I didn't like is I wanted more. Then I moved to the salad and that's where everything crashed and burned. I'm a big fan of a good salad especially after steak. This salad had no dressing whatsoever (I discovered after desperately digging to the bottom of the bowl), which basically made it taste like eating cardboard with a bit of onion flavour. Most of it was rocket as well. I even tried up ending it on the plate of steak juices but that didn't do much. It was a big let down. I probably would have gave 5 stars if it had not of been for the lack of salad dressing. The price was also quiet reasonable for a steak place.

My partner and I chanced dinner without a reservation (with our backup burger plan already established), and I thought we'd be turned away but luckily it was just the two of us. This meant being confined to the window seats and ordering at the bar rather than table service but that's a small price to pay. People sitting on the other side were tastefully blocked by a partition of greenery which still allowed a degree of privacy. The place was abuzz with conversation, laughter and music so it was loud but not annoyingly so. After a good peruse over the menu; featuring schnitzels, pork knuckle and sausages to name a few, we settled on the Haus made pretzel, Texan schnitzel for my partner and the Bavarian tasting platter for me. We both LOVE warm pretzels with butter and these certainly did not disappoint. I could eat them all day! The schnitzel was a large portion my partner ultimately couldn't finish. The platter consisting of pork belly, sausages and schnitzel is a great introduction to the menu but also tested my stomach capacity. Washing it down with 500mls of Lowenbrau didn't help but it felt necessary for an authentic experience. Menu is on the expensive side but for an occasional splurge I don't think it will hurt. I certainly intend on returning and with a second one opening closer to home it has been made that much more tempting.

I've only enjoyed this place a few times so far. Not been disappointed…read more Coffee has been good and I like the way they have put this place together. The tables I find interesting and the use of space is relaxed. I don't like sitting in someone else's pocket so this place is good for me. Included in the decor are things of interest which keeps you looking about while you wait for your drinks or food. There is some outdoor seating which puts you right by the road. If you don't mind the traffic noise you do get a bit of a view across the road to Lake Macquarie. So far it's my go to place when I go down to the lake.

Going inside to order revealed a relaxed decor, fun wall display of hanging menus and a service counter filled on both sides with beautifully presented pastries. The display really caught my eye; very nicely done and I'm not sure how I contained the urge to order something from it. I was in the mood for a sandwich and my partner quickly pointed out the Qubano and I was sold. Essentially ham and cheese with flare, served with chips. It smelled a little odd, probably the mustard, but tasted wonderful. The chocolate thick shake I ordered was large but needed more chocolate with most of it drizzled along the inside of the cup rather than in the drink itself. I had to keep scraping the sides with my straw to amp up the flavour.
